One of the most common treatments for phobias is in vivo exposure therapy. This method is considered a very robust solution with a great success rate but presents some drawbacks that can be solved by recurring to technological alternatives like virtual or augmented reality. The goal is to present the development of an augmented reality application that allows the loading of several phobic elements and the creation of distinct scenarios in a flexible and interactive way. This approach should allow the patient to observe and interact with their phobic elements using the Hololens 2 while the therapist has full control over all these elements, creating a unique and personalized experience based on the patient's needs. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper experimentally assesses the three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor tolerance to supply voltage unbalance for different dual-winding configurations, focusing on the phase current unbalance rate, the maximum amplitude of phase currents, and the per-slot stator conduction losses. Ten different dual-winding configurations were tested in an induction motor with externally reconfigurable windings at different load conditions under supply voltage unbalance resulting from increasing the resistance of one line between the power supply and the motor, which emulates a defective contact in the contactors and/or in the motor terminals. These results are compared to those obtained in previous experiments where the voltage unbalance was obtained by lowering the amplitude of one line-to-neutral voltage. The dual-winding configurations experimentally tested included the star-series and delta-series connection modes, with different angular displacements between the two partial windings, namely, 0, 20, 40, 60, and 240 electrical degrees. The experiments that were conducted allowed the identification of the dual-winding configuration, which led to the lowest per-slot per-unit conduction losses under the considered type of supply voltage unbalance. Compared to the commonly used delta- or star-connected windings, the best-identified dual-winding configuration may provide more motor tolerance to supply voltage unbalance, ultimately extending the service life of the stator winding. As far as the authors know, it is the first time such a study has been conducted. © 2024 IEEE.

The estimation and analysis of road traffic represent the preliminary steps towards satisfying the current needs for smooth,safe,and green ***,effective traffic monitoring is an essential topic alongside the planning of sustainable transportation systems and the development of new traffic management *** contrast to classical traffic detection solutions,this study investigates the correlation between travelers'social activities and road *** s's primary goal is to investigate the presence of the relationship between social activity and road traffic,which might allow an infrastructure-independent traffic monitoring technique as ***'s general activities at Point of Interest(POI)locations(measured as occupancy parameter)are correlated with traffic data so that,finally,proper proxys can be defined for link-level average traffic speed *** method is tested and evaluated using real-world traffic and POI occupancy data from Budapest(District XI.).The results of the correlation investigation justify an indirect relationship between activity at POIs and road traffic,which holds promise for future practical applicability.

True autonomy of artificial agents is a self-evident goal of AI research, yet to be achieved. While various aspects impact autonomy, adaptability is key both structurally and cognitively. This latter characteristic is largely affected by emotion in living beings, on which it links environmental appraisal with behavioral versatility. Taking advantage of this bio-inspiration, similar correlations can be achieved in artificial intelligence by replicating the conditions under which they are promoted in real life, and later exploited for furthering agent adaptability in terms of learning and behavior. Such agents would certainly boast greater autonomy and all the benefits it entails. As a demonstration, this work presents a task-agnostic agent which learned to associate exploration with the emotion of surprise, based on previous analytic experiences, and employs this knowledge for adaptive broadening of its familiarity with user facial features in real-time. This functionality reiterates the usability of emotion as a learning/behavioral metaparameter and also the importance of considering biological traits when designing artificial agents. © 2023 IEEE.

Aging has been increasing the demand for health-care services and caregivers in developed societies. Socially assistive robots are one of the technological tools that can be used to implement active and healthy aging practices which help mitigating the sustainability problem posed in care services. Sto-rytelling promotes entertainment as well as cognitive stimulation which is one of the dimensions of healthy aging. The use of social robots to tell stories can help to overcome limitations of conventional storytelling methodologies. This paper presents a storytelling system based on a social assistive robot endowed with natural language processing and lip expressions synchronized with speech, thus being capable of telling stories and interacting naturally with elderly people. The system uses generative AI to automatically create personalized stories tailored to the therapist's specifications and the user's unique characteristics. Through an interactive format, it narrates the story and allows the user to influence its direction by making choices at key moments. A pilot test with 15 elderly participants from a day center in Coimbra, Portugal, yielded positive results in terms of usability and acceptance.

The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated and al-ready existing and serious trend towards increasingly sedentary lifestyles, leading to adverse health effects. This is till very present and growing today. To address this challeng., we propose imple-menting serious games as an eng.ging solution to promote more active behaviors and improve overall well-being. Unlike typical approaches with specialized equipment, this method only requires a laptop with a camera, making it accessible and affordable. The incorporation of gamification elements, such as real-time feedback, progress tracking, and scoring, transforms physical activity into an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Additionally, the use of immersive virtual environments further enhances motivation and eng.gement. This strategy presents an effective means to increase physical activity, facilitate rehabilitation, and cultivate a sense of accomplishment. By leveraging the power of serious games, we can empower individuals to take control of their health and adopt a more active lifestyle. The key benefits of this solution include improved health outcomes, accessibility, and the integration of motivational gaming features. By implementing this innovative approach, we can contribute to a more active and healthier society.

This paper proposes a novel grid-connected inverter with LCL filters applied to IRM-ILQ (Inverse Reference Model - Inverse Linear Quadratic) control strategy. The IRM, which is feed-forward control, allows for realizing the fast response to current control without delay. The ILQ control gives an analytical solution for optimal control, and response speed in the closed-loop system is controlled. The IRM-ILQ control method simultaneously provides target tracking and error convergence, basically the IRM-ILQ control is the two-degree of freedom control. Owing to it, it can suppress surge current less than 58.6% during momentary power failure and make power factor keep unity even when command current value changes. The proposed grid-connected inverter is confirmed current tracking and an impressive adaptability to varying amplitude and phase of current by numerical simulations.

Generally, a position detector has been used to drive the Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SPMSM), because the current and voltage must be controlled according to the magnetic pole position of the rotor. However, using a position detector causes problems such as more expensive and lower reliability due to position detector failure. Therefore, the speed sensor-less control, which estimates the magnetic pole position from voltage and current without using a position detector, is required. Harmonic components in the output voltage waveform of the PWM inverter used to drive the SPMSM can cause problems such as Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). Harmonic components can be suppressed by using an LC filter. In addition, IRM-ILQ control, which combines modern control theory's Inverse Linear Quadratic (ILQ) control and Inverse Reference Model (IRM), can achieve stable and robust SPMSM drive despite with LC filter. In this paper, robustness of speed sensorless control based on IRM-ILQ current control for SPMSM with active LC filter is described. In simulation, the proposed method allows stable control even when there are parameter errors.
