The paper introduces an algorithm for personalized clustering based on a range tree structure, used for identifying all web documents satisfying a set of predefined personal user preferences. The returned documents go through a clustering phase before reaching the end user, thus allowing more effective manipulation and supporting the decision making process. The proposed algorithm demonstrates increased applicability in semantic web settings, since they offer the infrastructure for the explicit declaration of web document attributes and their respective values, thus allowing for more automated retrieval. The proposed algorithm improves the k-means range algorithm, as it uses the already constructed range tree (i.e. during the personalized filtering phase) as the basic structure on which the clustering step is based, applying instead of the k-means, the k-windows algorithm. The total number of parameters used for modeling the web documents dictates the number of dimensions of the Euclidean space representation. The time complexity of the algorithm is O(log d-2n+v), where d is the number of dimensions, n is the total number of web documents and v is the size of the answer. Copyright 2006 ACM.

Smart phone application development is a very active field for both research and the market domain. This paper investigates the application of ICONIX, a use case driven, object-oriented (OO) analysis and design methodology, for the development of a smart phone personal assistant. It also studies the integration of hand-held haptic devices in daily work activities by evaluating the usability of the application using as basis test scenarios deriving from the identified use cases. The Tennis Coaching Assistant (TCA) is an iPhone application that provides management and scheduling capabilities for tennis coaches and allows a comprehensive overview of the execution of on-court drills and coaching programs. The use of ICONIX made analysis and design keep a sharp focus on user requirements, assured design and coding documentation, fostered an excellent communication among all participants and stake holders and provided the crucial advantage of high reusability in case of implementing the same application for additional smart phone platforms. The paper also describes the usability evaluation methodology applied and documents the results focusing on interaction difficulties and practical obstacles reported by the users as well as suggestions for future versions of the application, which generally received quite positive feedback.

Distributing data flows of given bandwidth between various disjoint network paths of given bandwidth capacity, is a non-trivial task when the flows are considered unsplittable, thus we cannot send its packet via different paths, but all packets of a flow must be transmitted within the same path. This problem can be described as a modification of the well-known Knapsack problem. In this paper, we solve the Knapsack problem applied to resource allocation. We try to match items to individual knapsack and to use the maximum capacity of all knapsacks. Packing of items is managed by the QFLA algorithm, which tries to pack the coming item to knapsack with the biggest remaining capacity and if it is impossible then try to move items between knapsacks to make a bigger capacity of some knapsack and to place the item there. It is necessary to work in the real-time so we decided to use the structure of Binary Search Trees. It is used to keep knapsack ordered with its remaining capacity.

The increasing number of network traffic and packet processing in Software Defined Networks can be a challenge for the slower handling performance by control plane in software. Parallel processing of network traffic offers a solution to increase the performance of software-based control planes. Integrating large amounts of additional general-purpose CPU cores is relatively costly for achieving a substantial boost in packet classification by parallel processing. In contrast, simplified compute cores in the GPUs of today deliver better performance in execution of massively parallel tasks and offer better scalability. The motivation of this work is to utilize the performance of the GPU computational power for acceleration of control plane. The focus of this paper is packet classification in parallel processing on GPU by applying the principles of parallel programming into existing algorithms.
