An autoimmune disorder is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body parts. The epidemiology of these diseases is a matter of study and discussion, with many published results worldwide. We have critically collected more than 100 publications, analyzing autoimmune diseases' frequencies in various populations and ethnic groups. Simultaneously, we developed a web application in order to host the collected data. By utilizing Microsoft Silverlight technology, we have built a multimedia web frontend, in order to support a high level visualization of the data and the mining process. In parallel we continue the data mining process and the update of our database. © 2010 IEEE.

National/Ethnic population Mutation databases (NEMDBs) are online mutation depositories recording extensive information about the described genetic heterogeneity in populations and ethnic groups worldwide. FINDbase ( http://*** ) is a database containing causative mutations and pharmacogenomic markers allele frequencies in various populations and ethnic groups. In this paper, we experiment with designing and applying new automated data mining techniques on the original FINDbase causative mutations data collection in an attempt to identify genomic relationships between populations. Furthermore, we have developed an interactive web-based visualization tool that enables users to correlate the information, determine the relationships and gain insight into the underlying data collection in a novel and meaningful way. © 2012 IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

This paper describes the development of a virtual laboratory used as a self-based learning tool for control engineering education at undergraduate level. It relies on real time animation to emulate the operation and connectivity of the physical plant. Here, the real world laboratory plant is mimiced by a 3D-VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) and Cortona Automation interface. This provides a virtually interactive environment which allows users to freely manipulate the virtual plant as if they should be in the real world laboratory environment with the physical hardware. © 2011 ICROS.

The technological advances impact the future classrooms and the whole education system. The evolution of 6G promises faster speeds based on terahertz, wireless communication, the leverage of artificial intelligence (AL), virtually reality (VR) and generally a fully connected world. The use of applications of IoT and AIoT improves the education environment, but the intelligent network services undoubtedly gather, store and analyze big data which are vulnerable to attackers. As a solution we may consider the technology of blockchain. The trust and security of next generation intelligent networks are essential part of their design. In this article we suggest a data security system based on blockchain for AL applications in 6G networks. First, we present two Al-enabled applications, indoor positioning and mobile payment within the framework of 6G in the university area. We present the efficiency of blockchain in data security for Al-enabled systems using two case studies of indoor positioning system and mobile payment. The 6G system which is fully supported by Al and the integration of this in technology of blockchain, is ensured the security in future wireless communication. © 2023 IEEE.

Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are a popular approach for modeling sequential data, typically based on the assumption of a first-order Markov chain. In other words, only one-step back dependencies are modeled which is a rather unrealistic assumption in most applications. In this paper, we propose a method for postulating HMMs with approximately infinitely-long time-dependencies. Our approach considers the whole history of model states in the postulated dependencies, by making use of a recently proposed nonparametric Bayesian method for modeling label sequences with infinitely-long time dependencies, namely the sequence memoizer. We manage to derive training and inference algorithms for our model with computational costs identical to simple first-order HMMs, despite its entailed infinitely-long time-dependencies, by employing a mean-field-like approximation. The efficacy of our proposed model is experimentally demonstrated. © 2016 World Scientific Publishing Company.

As microarchitectural and system complexity grows, comprehending system behavior becomes increasingly difficult, and often requires obtaining and sifting through voluminous event traces or coordinating results from multiple, non-localized sources. Owl is a proposed framework that overcomes limitations faced by traditional performance counters and monitoring facilities in dealing with such complexity by pervasively deploying programmable monitoring elements throughout a system. The design exploits reconfigurable or programmable logic to realize hardware monitors located at event sources, such as memory buses. These monitors run and writeback results autonomously with respect to the CPU, mitigating the system impact of interrupt-driven monitoring or the need to communicate irrelevant events to higher levels of the system. The monitors are designed to snoop any kind of system transaction, e.g., within the core, on a bus, across the wire, or within I/O devices. Copyright 2005 ACM.

Named Data Networking as an alternative network for 5G network traffic is required to be able to provide better performance compared to other networks such as internet protocol networks. In NDN wireless, it is known that there is producer mobility and consumer mobility, so optimal mobility management is needed, including the handover process. In this paper the author proposes a simple RSSI-based 5G handover algorithm with distance as a reference RSSI value. This algorithm is a preparation for the handover algorithm on the NDN wireless network. By using the assumed distance value MS to eNB as the basic value for calculating RSSI, handover determination is determined by comparing the RSSI value to the RSSI threshold value. With the scenario of different numbers of users and cluster sizes, from the handover process involving 8 eNB. It can be calculated how big the handover probability is for each user. From the simulation results, it can be concluded that the more users and the larger the cluster size, the greater the handover probability value. This is linear, with the wider the cluster, the probability of getting an RSSI signal from the original eNB becomes smaller, making it possible to get an RSSI signal from neighboring eNB, so that a handover occurs. © 2024 IEEE.

Generating private randomness is essential for numerous applications ranging from security proofs to online banking. Consequently, the capacity of quantum devices to amplify the privacy of a weak source of randomness, in cases unattainable by classical methods, constitutes a practical advantage. One of the theoretical models of such weak sources are the so-called Santha-Vazirani (SV) sources;however, finding natural sources satisfying the SV model is a paramount challenge. In this article, we take three significant steps on the way to simplify this hard task. We begin with an in-depth analysis of the mathematical background for estimating the quality of a weak randomness source by providing a set of axioms that systematize the possible approaches to such estimation. We then develop software (SVTest) to estimate the parameter characterizing the source’s randomness. The software is general-purpose, i.e., it can test the randomness of any target sequence of bits. Later, we apply the software to test seismic events (earthquakes and local noise) as potential sources of randomness. Our results demonstrate that seismic phenomena are possible sources of randomness, depending on the choice of discretization. Therefore, our work provides strong evidence of the potential of geophysical phenomena as a source of cryptographic resources, building an unprecedented bridge between both fields. A semi-analytical finite element method(SAFEM),based on the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and the finite element method(FEM),is implemented to obtain the effective properties of two-phase fiber-reinforced composites(FRCs).The fibers are periodically distributed and unidirectionally aligned in a homogeneous *** framework addresses the static linear elastic micropolar problem through partial differential equations,subject to boundary conditions and perfect interface contact *** mathematical formulation of the local problems and the effective coefficients are presented by the *** local problems obtained from the AHM are solved by the FEM,which is denoted as the *** numerical results are provided,and the accuracy of the solutions is analyzed,indicating that the formulas and results obtained with the SAFEM may serve as the reference points for validating the outcomes of experimental and numerical computations.

The specific relationships between the classical pole-placement state feedback, the RICCATI equation based LQ paradigm and the KALMAN frequency domain approach are discussed. It is shown that arbitrary pole placement is not possible by standard LQ optimality. A possible solution of this anomaly is to use more general LQ criterion with specific weights on the state, input and crossterm.
