The pseudorapidity dependence of elliptic (v2), triangular (v3), and quadrangular (v4) flow coefficients of charged particles measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of √sNN = 5.02 TeV and in Xe-Xe collisions at √sNN = 5.44 TeV with ALICE at the LHC are presented. The measurements are performed in the pseudorapidity range −3.5 2 calculated with four- and two-particle cumulant, and suggests that the variance of flow p.d.f. is independent of pseudorapidity. The decorrelation of the flow vector in the longitudinal direction is probed using two-particle correlations. The results measured with respect to different reference regions in pseudorapidity exhibit differences, argued to be a result of saturating decorrelation effect above a certain pseudorapidity separation, in contrast to previous publications which assign this observation to non-flow effects. The results are compared to 3 + 1 dimensional hydrodynamic and the AMPT transport model calculations. Neither of the models is able to simultaneously describe the pseudorapidity dependence of measurements of anisotropic flow and its fluctuations. The results presented in this work highlight shortcomings in our current understanding of initial conditions and subsequent system expansion in the longitudinal direction. The first measurement of the e+e− pair production at midrapidity and low invariant mass in central Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV at the LHC is presented. The yield of e+e− pairs is compared with a cocktail of expected hadronic decay contributions in the invariant mass (mee) and pair transverse momentum (pT,ee) ranges mee 2 and pT,ee ee 2 the ratio of data to the cocktail of hadronic contributions without ρ mesons amounts to 1.42±0.12 (stat.)±0.17 (syst.)±0.12 (cocktail) and 1.44±0.12 (stat.)±0.17 (syst.) (Formula presented) (cocktail), including or not including medium effects in the estimation of the heavy-flavor background, respectively. It is consistent with predictions from two different models for an additional contribution of thermal e+e− pairs from the hadronic and partonic phases. In the intermediate-mass range (1.2 ee 2), the pair transverse impact parameter of the e+e− pairs (DCAee) is used for the first time in Pb–Pb collisions to separate displaced dielectrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays from a possible (thermal) contribution produced at the interaction point. The data are consistent with a suppression of e+e− pairs from cc and an additional prompt component. Finally, the first direct-photon measurement in the 10% most central Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV is reported via the study of virtual direct photons in the transverse momentum range 1 T © 2023, CC BY.

A search is conducted for new phenomena in events with a top quark pair and large missing transverse momentum, where the top quark pair is reconstructed in final states with one isolated electron or muon and multiple jets. The search is performed using the Large Hadron Collider proton–proton collision data sample at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. An analysis based on neural network classifiers is optimised to search for directly produced pairs of supersymmetric partners of the top quark (stop), and to search for spin-0 mediators, produced in association with a pair of top quarks, that decay into dark-matter particles. In the stop search, the analysis is designed to target models in which the mass difference between the stop and the neutralino from the stop decay is close to the top quark mass. This new search is combined with previously published searches in final states with different lepton multiplicities. No significant excess above the Standard Model background is observed, and limits at 95% confidence level are set. Models with neutralinos with masses up to 570 GeV are excluded, while for small neutralino masses models are excluded for stop masses up to 1230 GeV. Scalar (pseudoscalar) dark matter mediator masses as large as 350 (370) GeV are excluded when the coupling strengths of the mediator to Standard Model and dark-matter particles are both set to one. At lower mediator masses, models with production cross-sections as small as 0.15 (0.16) times the nominal predictions are excluded. The first measurement of the cross section for incoherent photonuclear production of J/ψ vector mesons as a function of the Mandelstam |t| variable is presented. The measurement was carried out with the ALICE detector at midrapidity, |y| NN = 5.02 TeV. This rapidity interval corresponds to a Bjorken-x range (0.3-1.4) ×10−3. Cross sections are given in five |t| intervals in the range 0.04 2 and compared to the predictions by different models. Models that ignore quantum fluctuations of the gluon density in the colliding hadron predict a |t|-dependence of the cross section much steeper than in data. The inclusion of such fluctuations in the same models provides a better description of the data. © 2023, CC BY.

The interaction between Λ baryons and kaons/antikaons is a crucial ingredient for the strangeness S = 0 and S = −2 sector of the meson-baryon interaction at low energies. In particular, the ΛK might help in understanding the origin of states such as the Ξ(1620), whose nature and properties are still under debate. Experimental data on Λ-K and Λ-K systems are scarce, leading to large uncertainties and tension between the available theoretical predictions constrained by such data. In this Letter we present the measurements of Λ-K+ ⊕ Λ-K− and Λ-K− ⊕ Λ-K+ correlations obtained in the high-multiplicity triggered data sample in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. The correlation function for both pairs is modeled using the Lednický-Lyuboshits analytical formula and the corresponding scattering parameters are extracted. The Λ-K− ⊕ Λ-K+ correlations show the presence of several structures at relative momenta k∗ above 200 MeV/c, compatible with the Ω baryon, the Ξ(1690), and Ξ(1820) resonances decaying into Λ-K− pairs. The low k∗ region in the Λ-K− ⊕ Λ-K+ also exhibits the presence of the Ξ(1620) state, expected to strongly couple to the measured pair. The presented data allow to access the ΛK+ and ΛK− strong interaction with an unprecedented precision and deliver the first experimental observation of the Ξ(1620) decaying into ΛK− © 2023, CC BY.

A search for events with one top quark and missing transverse momentum in the final state is presented. The fully hadronic decay of the top quark is explored by selecting events with a reconstructed boosted top-quark topology produced in association with large missing transverse momentum. The analysis uses 139 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV recorded during 2015-2018 by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified models for Dark Matter particle production and the single production of a vector-like T quark. Without significant excess relative to the Standard Model expectations, 95% confidence-level upper limits on the corresponding cross-sections are obtained. The production of Dark Matter particles in association with a single top quark is excluded for masses of a scalar (vector) mediator up to 4.3 (2.3) TeV, assuming mχ = 1 GeV and the model couplings λq = 0.6 and λχ = 0.4 (a = 0.5 and gχ = 1). The production of a single vector-like T quark is excluded for masses below 1.8 TeV assuming a coupling to the top quark ΚT = 0.5 and a branching ratio for T → Zt of 25%. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper presents a search for top-squark pair production in final states with a top quark, a charm quark and missing transverse momentum. The data were collected with the ATLAS detector during LHC Run 2 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139fb−1 of proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV. The analysis is motivated by an extended Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model featuring a non-minimal flavour violation in the second- and third-generation squark sector. The top squark in this model has two possible decay modes, either t̴1 → cχ̴10 or t̴1 → tχ̴10, where the χ̴10 is undetected. The analysis is optimised assuming that both of the decay modes are equally probable, leading to the most likely final state of tc+ ETmiss. Good agreement is found between the Standard Model expectation and the data in the search regions. Exclusion limits at 95% CL are obtained in the m(t̴1) vs m(χ̴10) plane and, in addition, limits on the branching ratio of the t̴1 → tχ̴10 decay as a function of m(t̴1) are also produced. Top-squark masses of up to 800 GeV are excluded for scenarios with light neutralinos, and top-squark masses up to 600 GeV are excluded in scenarios where the neutralino and the top squark are almost mass degenerate. © 2024, CC BY.

A search for leptoquark pair production decaying into $$te^- \bar{t}e^+$$ or $$t\mu ^- \bar{t}\mu ^+$$ in final states with multiple leptons is presented. The search is based on a dataset of pp collisions at $$\sqrt{s}=13~\text {TeV} $$ recorded with the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb $$^{-1}$$ . Four signal regions, with the requirement of at least three light leptons (electron or muon) and at least two jets out of which at least one jet is identified as coming from a b-hadron, are considered based on the number of leptons of a given flavour. The main background processes are estimated using dedicated control regions in a simultaneous fit with the signal regions to data. No excess above the Standard Model background prediction is observed and 95% confidence level limits on the production cross section times branching ratio are derived as a function of the leptoquark mass. Under the assumption of exclusive decays into $$te^{-}$$ ( $$t\mu ^{-}$$ ), the corresponding lower limit on the scalar mixed-generation leptoquark mass $$m_{\textrm{LQ}_{\textrm{mix}}^{\textrm{d}}}$$ is at 1.58 (1.59) TeV and on the vector leptoquark mass $$m_{{\tilde{U}}_1}$$ at 1.67 (1.67) TeV in the minimal coupling scenario and at 1.95 (1.95) TeV in the Yang–Mills scenario.

A search for R-parity-violating supersymmetry in final states with high jet multiplicity is presented. The search uses 140 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data at √s = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. The results are interpreted in the context of R-parity-violating supersymmetry models that feature prompt gluino-pair production decaying directly to three jets each or decaying to two jets and a neutralino which subsequently decays promptly to three jets. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation is observed and exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level are extracted. Gluinos with masses up to 1800 GeV are excluded when decaying directly to three jets. In the cascade scenario, gluinos with masses up to 2340 GeV are excluded for a neutralino with mass up to 1250 GeV. © 2024, CC BY.

Three searches for the direct production of τ-sleptons or charginos and neutralinos in final states with at least two hadronically decaying τ-leptons are presented. For chargino and neutralino production, decays via intermediate τ-sleptons or W and h bosons are considered. The analysis uses a dataset of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant deviation from the expected Standard Model background is observed and supersymmetric particle mass limits at 95% confidence level are obtained in simplified models. For direct production of χ͂1+χ͂1−, chargino masses are excluded up to 970 GeV, while χ͂1±and χ͂20masses up to 1160 GeV (330 GeV) are excluded for χ͂1±χ͂20/χ͂1+χ͂1−production with subsequent decays via τ-sleptons (W and h bosons). Masses of τ-sleptons up to 500 GeV are excluded for mass degenerate τ͂L,Rscenarios and up to 425 GeV for τ͂L-only scenarios. Sensitivity to τ͂R-only scenarios from the ATLAS experiment is presented here for the first time, with τ͂Rmasses excluded up to 350 GeV. © 2024, CC BY.
