A new class of performance functions for dispersion design of 1D periodic discrete systems using matrix rank is considered, and its regularization using existent log-det heuristics is proposed. As an input, the desired dispersion dependency of a branch is used. The design space is defined by a finite set of continuous parameters such as mass or stiffness constants. The mass and stiffness matrices are assumed to depend linearly on these parameters. Ideally, the representative dynamic stiffness matrix is singular at every point of the desired branch. Instead, the sum of ranks for the representative dynamic stiffness matrix evaluated at several discrete points is minimized using a surrogate log-det objective. This approach avoids ordering or tracking of eigenfrequencies and reduces the design problem to a sequence of quadratic programming problems. The considered periodic discrete systems are simplified objects for method development with a future goal of dispersion design of acoustic metamaterials. Also, a combination with reduced-order techniques is conceptually tested. © 2021 COMPDYN Proceedings.

Numerical simulation of flows with detonation waves (supersonic regime of combustion) in the computational domains, corresponding to the realistic technical systems, does not allow using classical structured grids and numerical schemes. One of the solutions is using fully unstructured grids. In relation to gas dynamics problems of chemically inert media, the apparatus of high approximation order schemes on fully unstructured computational grids has been developed and the shock waves problems have been formulated. The analysis of previous publications about the application of such approaches to the study of high-speed flows with chemical reactions revealed several papers only. This work is dedicated to the development of the parallel computational algorithm for the simulation of two-dimensional flows with detonation waves on fully unstructured grids with the examples of its application to the solution of the cellular detonation wave propagation problem. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

Studies have been conducted on anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) nanomatrices manufactured by SmartMembranes (SM) (Germany) and InRedox (USA). An X-ray fluorescence analyzer determined the quantitative and qualitative composition of AAO matrices. It is shown that the AAO matrices have a large transparency window (250 - 2750 nm) and the dependence of the second harmonic generation (SHG) signal on the pore size. The parameters of the porous structure of the samples were estimated by isothermal processes of nitrogen adsorption/desorption at its boiling point (T = 77 K). © 2024 IEEE.

Study of wave motions’ fluid is one of the most important and complex problems of modern hydrodynamics. A mathematical model for dynamics of incompressible uniform viscous liquid spots in the stratified medium is considered. This model is described by Navier–Stokes equations in Boussinesq approximation. Stratification component of the medium is saltiness. Bearing in mind that in such flows there are areas with large gradients of hydrodynamic parameters, required methods should possess such properties as a high order of accuracy, minimum scheme dissipation and dispersion, as well as monotony. To solve the task, the authors are developing a method of splitting by physical factors called as Splitting on physical factors Method for Incompressible fluid Flows (SMIF) possessing by the abovementioned properties. Four stages of splitting scheme are considered. This chapter provides a brief description of SMIF method. The test calculations and comparison with some theoretical and experimental data respect to the calculations of other authors are demonstrated. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

One of the tasks in the development of chaos-based communication systems is choosing the synchronization parameters to achieve the minimum synchronization time. In this paper, we consider the possible solution to such an issue for synchronization of adaptive chaotic models. We propose a technique to determine adaptive symmetry and synchronization coefficients for the communication system based on the master/slave configuration. The presented approach involves estimating the synchronization time for various initial conditions and determining the optimal symmetry and synchronization coefficients using the average, minimum and maximum synchronizationtime for considered sets of values. The experimental results obtained for the Rössler system have shown that, in contrast to the synchronization coefficient, the symmetry coefficient does not significantly influence the synchronization time. Moreover, we discovered that thesynchronization of the adaptive models using the obtained parameters occurs faster than in previously proposed communication schemes based on the Rössler chaotic system. The described approach can be used to improve chaos-based communication schemes including embedded communication systems. © 2021 IEEE.

Numerical Simulation of Shock Wave Propagation Over a Dense Particle Layer Using the Baer-Nunziato Model

The present study examines the possibility of numerical simulation of a strong shock wave propagating over the surface of a dense layer of particles poured onto an impermeable wall using the Baer-Nunziato two-phase flow model. The setting of the problem follows the full-scale experiment. The mathematical model is based on a two-dimensional system of Baer-Nunziato equations and takes into account intergranular stresses arising in the solid phase of particles. The computational algorithm is based on the Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact (HLLC) method with a pressure relaxation procedure. The developed algorithm proved to be efficient for two-phase problems with explicit interfacial boundaries and strong shock waves. These issues are typical of problems arising from the interaction of a shock wave with a bed or a layer of particles. A comparison with the simulations and full-scale experiments of other authors is carried out. A reasonable agreement with the experiment is obtained for the angles of the transmitted compaction wave and granular contact, including their dependency on the intensity of the propagating shock wave. The granular contact angle increases with the incident shock wave Mach number, while the transmitted compaction wave angle decreases. An explanation is given of the phenomenon of the decrease in thickness of the compacted region in the layer with the increase in intensity of the propagating shock wave. The main reason is that the maximal value of the particle volume fraction in the plug of compacted particles in the layer rises with the increase in shock wave intensity. © 2023, CC BY.

The paper considers the use of a neural network for the binary classification of magnetic resonance imaging images to establish a possible disease of COVID-19. Processing of input data and their reduction to one format is provided, and neural network software for binary classification is developed and its training based on about 60,000 open patient images. The using of developed software is universal for medical doctors or ordinary Internet users and does not require additional training. © 2022 IEEE.

Sleep is one of the key factors of well-being affecting life quality and longevity, which makes sleep monitoring an important task. In this paper, we propose the transfer learning approach for sleep stages classification based on EEG recordings, aiming the analysis of the patient's sleep quality. Transfer learning makes training possible with a small amount of labeled data. Also, usually it takes less time to fine-tune a pretrained model. For the numerical experiments, we use an open PhysioNet Sleep-EDF dataset containing more than 150 EEG files with annotations, and recurrent autoencoder network TimeNet. The proposed approach provides the highest achievable binary classification accuracy when only 10% of labeled data used for training.

The chapter is dedicated to the study on the teeth installation parameters on the stress state of the prosthesis under typical chewing loads. The two main parameters are investigated: the role of the dentition installation line and the role of tilt angle of teeth blocks. The simple 3D models were developed and used for these calculations. The physically based boundary conditions are introduced. The results of the calculation show a higher sensitivity of the lower prosthesis basis to vary the parameters compared to the upper prosthesis basis. It is shown that external shift of teeth installation line leads to higher stress intensity compared to oral one. The tilt angle effect results in slightly lower stress intensity compared to the shift effect. The oral tilt angle effect leads to higher stress intensity compared to the external tilt angles. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
