It has been said that if HTML makes easy things easy, XML will make hard things possible. XML has been heralded as the enabling technology for a Brave New Web, a whole new generation of Web applications. However, to fully appreciate the true power of XML, we must free ourselves from the all-too-familiar browser paradigm. We must think in terms of web-enabled applications, often not involving a traditional web browser, that are capable of accessing data in ways previously not possible. When we think of representing structured data on the Web, we should think in terms of using XML because XML is to data as HTML is to display. As we can see, XML is critical technology and is coming to a data warehouse near you. But distinct from EDI, XML is simple to use and inexpensive to implement for both small and large organizations. XML is enabling technology to integrate structured and unstructured data for next-generation applications. All web sites have been built with HTML, which describes how data will be formatted but does not provide information on this data. Consequently, this unstructured web-site data is very difficult to bring into a data warehouse system. XML provides a remedy to this situation by assigning data tags to this Web-site information.

Methods for mobile robot localization that use eigenspaces of panoramic snapshots of the environment are in general sensitive to changes in the illumination of the environment. Therefore, we propose an approach which achieves a reliable localization under severe illumination conditions. The method uses gradient filtering of the eigenspace. After testing the approach on images obtained by a mobile robot, we show that it outperforms the standard eigenspace-based recognition method.

Providing a wider movement range of virtual camera is an unsolved problem for state-of-the-art image-based rendering system. In this paper, we present a new image based rendering technology called panoramic mosaics of slit images with depth that can provide large virtual camera motion region for some scenes. By limiting camera motion to a horizontal plane only, a slit image with united depth value is used as the rendering element. The panoramic mosaics of slit images with depth are easy to capture, and the data size is as small as that of panorama. We present here the capturing, construction as well as rendering process of panoramic slit images mosaic with depth. A new approach to predict the intestinal absorption of drugs in humans is presented. It is based on structural similarity and hydrogen bonding properties (∑C values) of drug-like compounds. The relationship between gastrointestinal absorption in humans and hydrogen bond descriptors for 100 structurally diverse drugs was studied. From the sigmoid relationship for passively transported drugs it could be concluded that those with ∑C values less than 14 were completely absorbed, whereas those with ∑C values higher than 18 were poorly absorbed. In cases where other transport mechanisms prevail due to special structural features, an absorption threshold can be significantly different. So, instead of including the whole set of compounds in the QSAR analyses, small subsets of 1 to 5 structurally related drugs (nearest neighbors of a drug of interest) estimated by means of similarity calculations were considered. The contribution of the passive transport component and the corresponding influence of hydrogen bond factors on absorption was assumed to be similar within the postulated subsets.

Classical RSM uses the least squares method (LSM) to find the best fitting approximation models from the given data. In this paper, how to construct RSM efficiently and accurately using the moving least squares method (MLSM) and sensitivity is presented. During the construction of RSM, several parameters should be determined, and they are controlled by some criteria. Finally, some functions are tested to verify the efficiency of this method.
