A new model for feedback bridging faults at the transistor level is presented. The model particularly considers the external connections of the feedback loop. Criteria for the occurrence of oscillations and storage effects are calculated, and the parameters relevant for their occurrence are given. The similarity between oscillation and storage is shown. The results are evaluated using HSPICE (simulation program with IC emphasis) and a standard cell library.< >

The comparison of measured versus expected signals is the basic operation of any test process. It becomes a critical task especially when rather noisy contactless measurement techniques are employed for prototype debug and quality assurance purposes. The presentation describes ways of get most reasonable pass/fail decisions in the case of uncertainties.< >

An analytical-knowledge-based statistical method is developed to derive macromodels for the highly nonlinear AC response functions of CMOS op-amp circuits. Simple circuit analysis is used to motivate the use of logarithmic transformations. By this transformation, linear models are fitted over a large domain of the independent variables (typically, transistor widths) with very few circuit simulations. From circuit analysis it is deduced that poles and zeroes are appropriate for empirical modeling instead of directly modeling the response functions like unity gain frequency or phase margin. We have demonstrated the usefulness of the proposed method by using it to model the transfer function of a two-stage compensated CMOS op-amp circuit. The model is compared with SPICE3 simulations and shown to have excellent predictive capability, with a speed-up of more than 500.

A major limitation of the transmission-line matrix (TLM) method used to solve Maxwell's equations is the long computation time required. The TLM scattering calculations involved can, however, be viewed as parallel in nature. This paper describes an effort to reduce computational time by using an SIMD, DAP multiprocessor computer employed to solve a two-dimensional TLM electromagnetic field formulation. A parallel algorithm based on the TLM scattering algorithm is designed and implemented using FORTRAN-PLUS Enhanced on an AMT DAP 510 machine. Here the connectivity of the DAP is exploited to simulate the intrinsic scattering behaviour on which the TLM algorithm relies. The results show that parallel processing on an SIMD machine such as the DAP is advantageous, especially for higher-order mesh sizes.

A computer-based multimedia system has been developed for the storage, retrieval, and display of slide images and information to support the use of case studies in the undergraduate engineering curriculum. Case studies are presented as an effective means of integrating design context into the classroom to motivate students and appeal to what educational psychologists term sensory learning styles. A detailed description of the multimedia system with feedback on its trial use in the classroom is included.
