We study the motion of meteoroids in the Earth’s atmosphere. It is shown that space bodies do not always fall on the Earth or explode and shatter into small fragments in the atmosphere. Instead, for certain aerodynamic characteristics and small angles of entry into the atmosphere, they may re-enter the outer space after traveling several thousand kilometres through the atmosphere. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

It is known from the experimental researches regarding the Taylor vortex flows between the rotating cylinders that a different number of pairs of the Taylor vortices can be formed within the one geometry. It means that different variants of the problem’s solution are allowable. The simulation method with periodic boundary conditions on the edges of the cylinder’s part was developed for the numerical research into the Taylor vortex flows. The results of the simulation of the flow for the various values of the periodicity sizes and different initial data are given. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The structure of the decision support system for controlling the color characteristics of polymer products based on fuzzy models is presented, the application of which will reduce the amount of scrap in production, reduce the size of production costs, as well as reduce the degree of environmental pollution. The observed system includes a module for evaluating color characteristics from fuzzy models, which makes the system hybrid, using both deterministic and fuzzy models in work, which allows you to more efficiently and qualitatively cope with the task of analyzing the color characteristics of polymer productions. © 2021 IEEE.

A multi-temperature code for a multi-component gas dynamic is considered. The velocities of components with nonzero mass are assumed to be identical to each other. The gas dynamic part is the Godunov-type method based on the efficient approximate solution of the Riemann problem operating with all components of the homogeneous gas mixture. The method assumes the table equation of state (EOS), but the system of the hydrodynamic equations should be hyperbolic. This work contains the test of the method on a strong shock wave in hydrogen plasma, so-called Shafranov’s solution. By taking into account the radiation component, the chapter discusses the applicability of the two temperature models for the strong shock wave in the hydrogen with the large temperatures behind a shock wave without consideration of the radiation at a considered short timescale. General EOS for the mixture of protons, electrons, and radiation differs from an ideal gas low EOS for two components (protons and electrons) fully ionized hydrogen plasma. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The chapter is dedicated to the numerical study of pulsating gaseous detonation wave propagation. The mathematical model is based on the Euler equations written for the multicomponent gas and supplemented by the detailed chemical reactions model to describe the combustion of the hydrogen–air mixture. The Petersen and Hanson kinetics is applied as the detailed chemical model. The numerical algorithm is based on the finite volume approach, essentially non-oscillatory scheme, AUSM numerical flux and the Runge–Kutta method. The numerical investigation of pulsating detonation wave propagation with direct detonation initiation near the closed end of the channel is carried out. The peculiarities of high-frequency and high-amplitude pulsations modes are discussed. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Geopolymer has been subject of research in recent years. There are many studies which are carried out to examine viability of geopolymer mortar as an alternative material to Ordinary Portland Cement . Geopolymer material mainly consist of replacement of cementitious material by industrial waste like fly ash, blast furnace slag , bottom ash, metakaolin , Silica fumes etc. so in such way industrial waste will be used judiciously and there will be low emission of CO 2 . The present investigation aims to develop geopolymer mortar as a repair material using metakaolin, fly ash, blast furnace slag as source materials. For the purpose of evaluation of the performance of geopolymer mortar as repair material, reinforced concrete beams were casted, and damaged in two different patterns i.e. wide and hairline cracked and tested under two-point load flexure testing machine. Geopolymer mortar (GPM) comprises of supplementary cementitious material as a primary binder material and mixing it with alkali activators. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na 2 SiO 3 ) were used as Alkali activators. Their different concentrations were prepared to study the most suitable mixture and its properties. Alkali activators with 10 M, and 12 M with 1:2 and 1:2.5 concentration ratio was prepared and tested for checking compressive strength gain of geopolymer mortar cubes. After casting and compressive testing of geopolymer mortar cubes it was observed that among all different trial mix with varying binder ratio, the cubes with GGBS (Ground Granulated blast furnace slag) to Fly ash ratio of (80:20) showed relatively higher strength at 7 days. Hence that proportion of binder to fine aggregate was used in preparation of geopolymer paste (GPP) and that paste was used for repairing beams which were damaged by applying two-point flexure load to obtain its gain in load carrying capacity at 7 and 28 days respectively.

Vibratory equipment is widely used in various fields of mechanical, industrial, and manufacturing engineering. Particularly, such machines can be effectively implemented while carrying out finishing technological operations, e.g., glazing, polishing, and lapping of different machine parts. The present paper is focused on developing the control system for the novel design of a vibratory lapping-polishing machine driven by six solenoids. The main purpose consists in providing the circular trajectory of the working member and ensuring the machining uniformity at each point of the surface being treated. In such a case, it is proposed to actuate the solenoids with the specified time shift depending on the forced frequency needed to be provided. The duration of the signal actuating the solenoid is equal to one-sixth of the total duration of a cycle (period) of the working body oscillation. The corresponding control approach is developed and simulated in the Tinkercad application, while the control system is designed based on the Arduino hardware and software. In addition, the laboratory prototype of the vibratory lapping-polishing machine and the corresponding control system are implemented in practice. The performed laboratory studies and experimental tests substantiate the possibilities of generating the circular oscillations of the working member of the vibration-driven lapping-polishing machine. The obtained results may be useful for engineers and technologists dealing with control systems of various vibratory technological equipment based on electromagnetic and solenoid-type drives.

In this work, software is developed for modeling the drying process of hygroscopic materials using cellular automata. The modeling process using cellular automata is described, and the developed transition rules that consider heat and mass transfer not only within the material but also between stacks are provided. The developed software uses a modern multi-tier client-server architecture, including a database for handling large volumes of computational data. Additionally, the results of the modeling, including their validation based on existing experimental data, are presented and analyzed. © 2024 IEEE.

The article describes an intelligent system for solving the problem of scheduling distributed polymeric materials production. The problem of optimal distribution of orders among production lines is complex and requires a large number of calculations. Because of this, it is necessary not only to automate the search for the optimal solution, but also to apply more complex algorithms which requires the intelligent components of the system. The statement of the optimal planning problem is presented, which is reduced to the problem of constructing schedules for devices with parallel performers. The main optimality criteria include the time and cost of implementing the optimal plan. The constraints imposed on the solution of the problem, are given. The intelligent components of the system is described: mind maps of the optimal planning of polymeric materials production process, production data, optimization criteria library, optimal planning methods library and personnel involved in optimal planning; rules for reconfiguring of the production lines for new tasks to calculate the time and cost of production; an intelligent interface offering an optimal planning algorithm and its parameters depending on the dimension of the problem being solved and restrictions on the time of forming the optimal plan. The system was tested using data from polymer production at plants in Russia and Germany. The system allows to increase the efficiency of the production plan in terms of deadlines and cost of execution, and also to significantly reduce the time of searching for the optimal solution.

Modeling the Mechanisms of the Destruction of the Surface Layer of a Meteoroid under the Influence of a Thermal Factor

Abstract: Based on the equations of the classical linear theory of elasticity, a model problem of the stress-strain state of an elastic cylinder simulating a meteoroid falling in the atmosphere with a thin surface layer heated due to thermal loads is formulated and analytically solved. The influence of an inhomogeneous temperature field on this process is isolated and separately investigated within the linear formulation of the problem. The maximum shear stresses are calculated for two cases of heating this layer, corresponding to a rapidly rotating cylinder and one moving without rotation, exceeding the critical value of the strength of its material. Over the past decade, astronomers have identified several dozen small decameter-sized bodies of the solar system, which have sufficiently high initial periods of rotation even in outer space. The features of the mechanisms of the formation of the surface relief of precipitating meteoroids of various types for these cases are revealed. Thus, rapidly rotating meteoroids, subject to the peeling effect—dropping off of a thin heated outer layer—fell out in the form of meteorites with a smooth surface structure. For those that fell progressively, the meteorites had a sculptural surface relief covered with regmaglypts generated by Görtler vortices. © 2021, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
