Mining Maximal Frequent Patterns in a Unidirectional FP-tree

Becausemining complete set of frequent patterns from dense database could be impractical, an interesting alternative has been proposed recently. Instead of mining the complete set of frequent patterns, the new model only finds out the maximal frequent patterns, which can generate all frequent patterns. FP-growth algorithm is one of the most efficient frequent-pattern mining methods published so far. However,because FP-tree and conditional FP-trees must be two-way traversable, a great deal memory is needed in process of mining. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm Unid_FP-Max for mining maximal frequent patterns based on unidirectional FP-tree. Because of generation method of unidirectional FP-tree and conditional unidirectional FP-trees, the algorithm reduces the space consumption to the fullest extent. With the development of two techniques:single path pruning and header table pruning which can cut down many conditional unidirectional FP-trees generated recursively in mining process, Unid_ FP-Max further lowers the expense of time and space.

Our energy production increasingly depends on renewable energy sources, which impose new challenges for distributed and decentralized systems. One problem is that the availability of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar is not continuous as it is affected by meteorological factors. The challenge is to develop forecast methods capable of determining the level of power generation in near real-time in order to control power plants for optimal energy production. Another scenario is the identification of optimal locations for such power plants. In our collaborative project, these tasks are investigated in the domain of energy meteorology. For that purpose large data sources from many different sensors (e.g., satellites and ground stations) are the base for complex computations. The idea is to parallelize these computations in order to obtain significant speedup. This paper reports on an ongoing project employing Grid technologies in that context. Our approach to processing large data sets from a variety of heterogeneous data sources as well as ideas for parallel and distributed computing in energy meteorology are presented. Preliminary experience with several Grid middleware systems in our application scenario is discussed.

The article deals with an improved method of analog-digital system (ADS) evaluation as the system objects with the dynamic nonlinear and stochastic properties. A proposed method makes it possible to estimate the dynamic of ADS as in time, as in spectral domain, without the use of additional hardware or the need for additional measurements. The implementation of the method that is described is based on a broadband test signal that simulates actual operating conditions. The method makes it possible to avoid the standard problems associated with precise estimation of the spectrum of a broadband signal. It has been validated for evaluation of the ADS with digital resolution up to 14 bit and conversion rate -6-10 Gbit per second.

This article demonstrates results and experiences gained in the area of multilayer internetworking, with emphasis on bandwidth on-demand provisioning as well as resource and restoration management. Behavioral characteristics and numerical results were obtained from a management system prototype implemented and tested in an appropriately adapted commercial WDM environment enhanced with multivendor gigabit IP routers. The management solution, the testbed environment, and a representative evaluation scenario are presented as a means of explaining in detail the results that finally allow a global system assessment.

Model transformation (MT) is a key technology in the model-driven development approach of software engineering that provides automated means to capture the evolution of models and mappings between modeling languages. The pattern and rule-based paradigm of graph transformation is considered a very popular approach for specifying such model transformations. While the expressiveness of different MT specification techniques is frequently compared on well-known transformation problems (e.g. UML-to-XMI, or UML-to-EJB mappings), no such benchmarks exist currently for comparing the performance of different model transformation tools. In the paper, we propose a systematic method for quantitative benchmarking in order to assess the performance of graph transformation tools. Typical features of the graph transformation paradigm and various optimization strategies exploited in different toots are identified and categorized. Moreover, the performance of several popular graph transformation tools is measured and compared on a well-known distributed mutual exclusion problem.

Ultraviolet (UV) light emitting diodes (LEDs) are expected to find applications for solid-state lighting, water and air purification, bio-agent detection, and biological fluorescence experiments. For identifying miniscule amounts of hazardous biological pathogens and for the detection of fluorescence from protein molecules excited with the UV light (200-300nm) the light source must exhibit low noise and high stability over tens of minutes. The article deals with an improved method for testing analog-digital system (ADS) as the system objects with the dynamic nonlinear and stochastic properties. A proposed technique makes it possible to utilize the statistical testing method to estimate the dynamic of ADS as in time, as in spectral domain, without the use of additional hardware or the need for additional measurements. The implementation of the statistical testing method that is described is based on a broadband test signal that simulates actual operating conditions. The technique makes it possible to avoid the standard problems associated with precise estimation of the spectrum of a broadband signal. It has been validated in tests of the dynamic parameters of 6 up to 1-bit high-speed. Copyright © 2004 IFAC.
