International Conference on Application of Concurrency to System Design

We introduce a parametric extension of Action-Restricted Computation Tree Logic. A symbolic fixed-point algorithm providing a solution to the exhaustive parameter synthesis problem is proposed. The parametric approach allows for an in-depth system analysis and synthesis of correct parameter values. The time complexity of the problem and of the algorithm is provided. The prototype tool SPATULA, implementing the algorithm, is applied to the analysis of three benchmarks: faulty Train-Gate-Controller, Peterson's Mutual Exclusion Protocol, and a Generic Pipeline Processing network. The experimental results show efficiency and scalability of our approach in comparison with a naive solution to the problem.

Animating turbulent water by vortex shedding in PIC/FLIP

In this paper,we present a hybrid method,which integrates PIC/FLIP and vortex particle methods into a unified framework,to efficiently simulate vortex shedding that happens when fluids flow around internal *** improve efficiency and reduce the numerical dissipations,we first solve the governing equations on a coarse grid using PIC/FLIP,and then interpolate the intermediate results to a finer grid to obtain the base *** the regular particles in PIC/FLIP enter the boundary layer,if the specified conditions are satisfied to cause vortex shedding,they are selected as vortex particles by assigning additional vorticity related *** vortex particle dynamics are controlled by the vorticity form of NS equations,and several efficient methods are proposed to solve them on the finer ***,the obtained turbulence flow is added to the base *** a result,we are able to simulate turbulent water with rich wake details around the internal obstacles.

A search for cosmic neutrino sources using the data collected with the ANTARES neutrino telescope between early 2007 and the end of 2015 is performed. For the first time, all neutrino interactions—charged- and neutral-current interactions of all flavors—are considered in a search for point-like sources with the ANTARES detector. In previous analyses, only muon neutrino charged-current interactions were used. This is achieved by using a novel reconstruction algorithm for shower-like events in addition to the standard muon track reconstruction. The shower channel contributes about 23% of all signal events for an E−2 energy spectrum. No significant excess over background is found. The most signal-like cluster of events is located at (α,δ)=(343.8°,23.5°) with a significance of 1.9σ. The neutrino flux sensitivity of the search is about E2dΦ/dE=6×10−9 GeV cm−2 s−1 for declinations from −90° up to −42°, and below 10−8 GeV cm−2 s−1 for declinations up to 5°. The directions of 106 source candidates and 13 muon track events from the IceCube high-energy sample events are investigated for a possible neutrino signal and upper limits on the signal flux are determined.

The effect of orthogonal exchange coupling between antiferromagnetic CoO and ferromagnetic Ni/Pd(001) on the perpendicular anisotropy of Ni films is studied. The thickness range in which Ni films show a perpendicular easy magnetization axis is extended by growing CoO on top of them, however, only at temperatures below TN of CoO. The perpendicular orientation of Ni spins and the in-plane orientation of CoO spins are confirmed by the magneto-optic Kerr effect/x-ray magnetic circular dichroism and x-ray magnetic linear dichroism, respectively. Additionally, a perpendicular exchange bias shows up at low temperature.

The flux of very high-energy neutrinos produced in our Galaxy by the interaction of accelerated cosmic rays with the interstellar medium is not yet determined. The characterization of this flux will shed light on Galactic accelerator features, gas distribution morphology and Galactic cosmic ray transport. The central Galactic plane can be the site of an enhanced neutrino production, thus leading to anisotropies in the extraterrestrial neutrino signal as measured by the IceCube Collaboration. The ANTARES neutrino telescope, located in the Mediterranean Sea, offers a favourable view on this part of the sky, thereby allowing for a contribution to the determination of this flux. The expected diffuse Galactic neutrino emission can be obtained linking a model of generation and propagation of cosmic rays with the morphology of the gas distribution in the Milky Way. In this paper, the so-called "Gamma model" introduced recently to explain the high-energy gamma ray diffuse Galactic emission, is assumed as reference. The neutrino flux predicted by the "Gamma model" depends of the assumed primary cosmic ray spectrum cut-off. Considering a radially-dependent diffusion coefficient, this proposed scenario is able to account for the local cosmic ray measurements, as well as for the Galactic gamma ray observations. Nine years of ANTARES data are used in this work to search for a possible Galactic contribution according to this scenario. All flavour neutrino interactions are considered. No excess of events is observed and an upper limit is set on the neutrino flux of 1.1 (1.2) times the prediction of the "Gamma model" assuming the primary cosmic ray spectrum cut-off at 5 (50) PeV. This limit excludes the diffuse Galactic neutrino emission as the major cause of the "spectral anomaly" between the two hemispheres measured by IceCube. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Within the scope of ***, an interdisciplinary research network of Bonn University and the Jülich Research Centre, we work on a new model-based approach to the phenotyping of grapevine. Our algorithm performs a robust extraction of different features from a given leaf image, like specific points of the vein network, the vein network itself, and different distances respectively angles between special features. For that we present robust methods, like a template based method to extract the peduncle point, a detection strategy to determine end points of leaf veins, and a Gabor filter-based directional edge tracing procedure to extract the network. The extracted features are fed into a support vector machine in order to realize a full automatic sufficient variety identification. © 2013 CSREA Press. All rights reserved.

Thermal spraying has emerged as a viable solution to produce wear and corrosion protective coatings on planar or large radial symmetric parts. However, in the field of industrial applications there is an increasing demand for parts with more complex shape. This, in turn, leads to the challenge to produce near-net-shape coatings with constant coating properties along the parts entire contour. The present study investigates the influence of the outer radius size on the deposition rate, the properties (hardness and porosity) and morphology of HVOF sprayed fine structured WC-12Co coatings. As feedstock material an agglomerated and sintered WC-12Co powder with a size distribution of 2-10 μm was used. For the spray experiments the process parameters were held constant, while the radii were varied between 5-40 mm. It has been generally shown that HVOF spraying of fine powders is more robust against the alteration of the curvature than other spray processes. However the deposition rate decreases compared to planar substrates.
