In this work, we present a heuristic search technique (Contract Search) which can be automatically adapted for a specified node expansion limitation. We analyze the node expansion properties of best first search and propose a probabilistic model (rank profile) to characterize heuristic search under restricted expansions. We identify the basic properties of the rank profile and establish its relation with the search space configuration. In Contract Search, we use the rank profile model to formulate an optimal strategy to choose level dependent restriction bounds maximizing the probability of obtaining the goal node under the specified contract. Experimental comparison with anytime search techniques like ARA* and beam search shows that Contract Search outperforms these techniques over a range of constraint specifications.

Environment monitoring using multiple observation cameras is increasingly popular. Different techniques exist to visualize the incoming video streams, but only few evaluations are available to find the best suitable one for a given task and context. This article compares three techniques for browsing video feeds from cameras that are located around the user in an unstructured manner. The techniques allow mobile users to gain extra information about the surroundings, the objects and the actors in the environment by observing a site from different perspectives. The techniques relate local and remote cameras topologically, via a tunnel, or via bird's eye viewpoint. Their common goal is to enhance spatial awareness of the viewer, without relying on a model or previous knowledge of the environment. We introduce several factors of spatial awareness inherent to multi-camera systems, and present a comparative evaluation of the proposed techniques with respect to spatial understanding and workload.

We report the use of nickel-platinum silicide (NiPtSi) as a source/drain (S/D) material for strain engineering in P-MOSFETs to improve drive current performance. The material and electrical characteristics of NiPtSi with various Pt concentrations was investigated and compared with those of NiSi. Ni0.95Pt0.05Si was selected for device integration. A 0.18 μm gate length P-MOSFET achieved a 22% gain in IDsat when Ni0.95Pt0.05Si S/D is employed instead of NiSi S/D. The enhancement is attributed to strain modification effects related to the nickel-platinum silicidation process.

Geometric Algebra (GA) is a mathematical framework that allows a compact and geometrically intuitive description of geometric relationships and algorithms. In this paper a translation, rotation and scale invariant algorithm for registration of color images and other multichannel data is introduced. The use of Geometric Algebra allows to generalize the well known Fourier Transform which is widely used for the registration of scalar fields. In contrast to the original algorithm our algorithm allows to handle vector valued data in an appropriate way. As a proof of concept the registration results for artificial, as well as for real world data, are discussed.
