A measurement of the cross section for the production of an isolated photon in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=7 TeV is presented. Photons are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range |ηγ|<1.37 and with a transverse energy ETγ>25 GeV. Jets are reconstructed in the rapidity range |yjet|<4.4 and with a transverse momentum pTjet>20 GeV. The differential cross section dσ/dETγ is measured, as a function of the photon transverse energy, for three different rapidity ranges of the leading-pT jet: |yjet|<1.2, 1.2≤|yjet|<2.8 and 2.8≤|yjet|<4.4. For each rapidity configuration the same-sign (ηγyjet≥0) and opposite-sign (ηγyjet<0) cases are studied separately. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 37 pb−1, collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations are found to be in fair agreement with the data, except for ETγ≲45 GeV, where the theoretical predictions overestimate the measured cross sections.

We consider a generalization of Voronoi diagrams, recently introduced by Barequet et al., in which the distance is measured from a pair of sites to a point. An easy way to define such distance was proposed together with the concept: it can be the sum-of, the product-of, or (the absolute value of) the difference-between Euclidean distances from either site to the respective point. We explore further the last definition, and analyze the complexity of the nearest- and the furthest- neighbor 2-site Voronoi diagrams for points in the plane with Manhattan or Chebyshev underlying metrics, providing extensions to general Minkowsky metrics and, for the nearest- neighbor case, to higher dimensions. In addition, we point out that the observation made earlier in the literature that 2-point site Voronoi diagrams under the sum-of and the product-of Euclidean distances are identical and almost identical to the second order Voronoi diagrams, respectively, holds in a much more general statement. © 2010 IEEE.

It was shown in the past that ATPG based on the Boolean Satisfiability problem is a beneficial complement to traditional ATPG techniques. Its advantages can be observed especially on large industrial circuits. These circuits usually contain a lot of functional redundancy which, on the one hand, is often needed during operational mode, but on the other hand, causes dispensable overhead during ATPG. Using the traditional circuit-to-CNF transformation, this redundancy is also contained in the SAT instances. The contribution of this paper is a new technique to improve the SAT instance generation for SAT-based ATPG. The objective of the proposed method is to use Binary Decision Diagrams (BDDs) to optimize the resulting CNF representations. In order to apply the proposed technique to industrial circuits, we developed dedicated BDD operations using a multiple-valued logic. The experimental results, obtained on large industrial designs, show that the accomplished optimizations result in a considerable acceleration of the overall ATPG runtime as well as in a significant reduction of the unclassified faults.

In this paper we propose a synthesis semantics for SystemC™ channels, which contribute to a clear separation between computation (algorithm) and communication, whereas communication related parts are modelled through either primitive or hierarchical channels. We present a synthesisable replacement for SystemC primitive channels that allows deterministic access scheduling and user-constrained refinement for HW/HW and HW/SW communication. We demonstrate the feasibility of our approach through synthesis and exploration of a communication intensive packet switch design under consideration of different configurations and communication refinements. © 2010 ACM.

Designing an elegant 3D virtual garment model for a 3D virtual human model is labor-intensive, because most existing garment models are custom-made for a specific human model and cannot be easily reused for other individuals. In this paper, we propose a novel method for fitting a given 3D garment model onto human models of various body shapes and poses. The fitting is accomplished by deforming the garment mesh to match the shapes of the human models by using a combination of the following: skeleton-driven volumetric deformation, garmenthuman shape similarity matching and evaluation, the constraints of garmenthuman contact, and garmenthuman ease allowance. Experiments show that our approach performs very well and has the potential to be used in the garment design industry. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.

An ultrawideband transceiver employing chirp pulse modulation is proposed for LDR communication. In contrast to the Gaussian pulse, a transmitted pulse modulated with different chirps can maximize the transmitted energy under low supply voltage and is thus amenable to the voltage scalability of the advanced CMOS technologies. The binary data is encoded with different chirp frequencies and two identical pulses are sent per data bit to enable non-coherent demodulation which simplifies the receiver architecture. A demodulation calibration loop is also incorporated to optimize the SIR performance. In-band/out-of-band SIR as low as -21 dB/-59 dB can be tolerated in order to achieve BER better than10-3. Implemented in 0.18 μ CMOS, the transceiver can sustain data rates up to 20 Mbps, and achieve energy efficiency of 0.77 nJ/bit for transmitting and 2.7 nJ/bit for receiving under 1.8 V supply. © 2010 IEEE.

Photonic mixer devices (PMDs) are able to create reliable depth maps of indoor environments. Yet, their application in mobile robotics, especially in simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) applications, is hampered by the limited field of view. Enhancing the field of view by optical devices is not trivial, because the active light source and the sensor rays need to be redirected in a defined manner. In this work we propose an omnidirectional PMD sensor which is well suited for indoor SLAM and easy to calibrate. Using a single sensor and multiple planar mirrors, we are able to reliably navigate in indoor environments to create geometrically consistent maps, even on optically difficult surfaces.

When using deformable models for the segmentation of biological data, the choice of the best weighting parameters for the internal and external forces is crucial. Especially when dealing with 3D fluorescence microscopic data and cells within dense tissue, object boundaries are sometimes not visible. In these cases, one weighting parameter set for the whole contour is not desirable. We are presenting a method for the dynamic adjustment of the weighting parameters, that is only depending on the underlying data and does not need any prior information. The method is especially apt to handle blurred, noisy, and deficient data, as it is often the case in biological microscopy. © 2010 IEEE.

Based on a texture descriptor which intrinsically defines the geometry of textures using semi-local image information and tools from differential geometry, a fast active contour segmentation model for color texture image is proposed. In this model, we use the popular Bhattacharyya distance between the probability density function (pdf) to design the data fitting term which distinguishes the background and textures of interest. Then, a fast algorithm based on the Split-Bregman method is introduced to extract meaningful objects. Finally, some examples on some challenging images are illustrated to verify the possibility of the proposed model.
