Improved Multidisciplinary Multiobjective Collaborative Optimization Technique Based on NSGA-ii Algorithm 1

The multiobjective collaborative optimization (MCO) has been widely adopted in concurrent engineering design as a good multiobjective optimization approach provided the problem of optimization results converging often to a local extremum has been taken care of. It has been demonstrated to yield useful solutions to a wide range of optimization problems under concurrent condition both technical and non-technical ones. A solution strategy for MCO that overcomes this drawback is proposed here on the grounds of genetic NSGA-ii algorithm. It is an adaptive heuristic search technique that controls the distances between the individual and system's feasible region during genetic evolution. In the evolving NSGA-ii based non-dominated sorting, the individual threshold of infeasibility degree is reduced gradually via genetic evolution and the individual's feasibility capacity is determined by its infeasibility degree and the threshold. It has been applied to a benchmark example of speed reducer design, and the obtained results demonstrate the proposed technique is comparably more efficient and may offer substantial advantages over the gradient-based optimization methods. This article gives an overview of the organization and realization of an interdisciplinary practical course on grid computing. Both the lecturers and the attendees came from diverse backgrounds and disciplines including computer science, physics, medicine, and the humanities. We describe the management of the course, the assignments, the infrastructure developed and experienced in this interdisciplinary practical course at the University of Göttingen. The challenges and issues, the benefits, the expectations and their fulfillment are discussed. The experiences of the course show that diverse disciplines can be brought together to convey the benefits of grid technology by experiencing varied grid applications in production-like grid environments.

This article reports on the experience of conducting the program committee (PC) meeting for the IEEE VR 2009 conference in Second Life. More than 50 PC members from around the globe met virtually over a two-day period to decide which papers to accept for presentation at the conference. Survey responses from 42 of the PC members indicate generally positive feelings toward this meeting format, although several alterations will help improve interaction between attendees in future meetings. © 2009 IEEE.

Azimuthal decorrelations between the two central jets with the largest transverse momenta are sensitive to the dynamics of events with multiple jets. We present a measurement of the normalized differential cross section based on the full data set (∫Ldt=36 pb−1) acquired by the ATLAS detector during the 2010 s=7 TeV proton-proton run of the LHC. The measured distributions include jets with transverse momenta up to 1.3 TeV, probing perturbative QCD in a high-energy regime.

This Letter reports on a search for narrow high-mass resonances decaying into dilepton final states. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in pp collisions at s=7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 1.08 (1.21) fb−1 in the e+e− (μ+μ−) channel. No statistically significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% C.L. on the cross section times branching fraction of Z′ resonances and Randall-Sundrum gravitons decaying into dileptons as a function of the resonance mass. A lower mass limit of 1.83 TeV on the sequential standard model Z′ boson is set. A Randall-Sundrum graviton with coupling k/M¯Pl=0.1 is excluded at 95% C.L. for masses below 1.63 TeV.

This Letter presents the first search for a heavy particle decaying into an e±μ∓ final state in s=7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS detector during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on two representative models. In an R-parity violating supersymmetric model, tau sneutrinos with a mass below 0.75 TeV are excluded, assuming all R-parity violating couplings are zero except λ311′=0.11 and λ312=0.07. In a lepton flavor violating model, a Z′-like vector boson with masses of 0.70–1.00 TeV and corresponding cross sections times branching ratios of 0.175–0.183 pb is excluded. These results extend to higher mass R-parity violating sneutrinos and lepton flavor violating Z’s than previous constraints from the Tevatron.

This Letter presents the first search for supersymmetry in final states containing one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum from s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Limits are set on the parameters of the minimal supergravity framework, extending previous limits. Within this framework, for A0=0 GeV, tan β=3, and μ>0 and for equal squark and gluino masses, gluino masses below 700 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.

This Letter presents a measurement of the W+W− production cross section in s=7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb−1 of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7±0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41−16+20(stat)±5(syst)±1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of 44±3 pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD.

A search for a heavy standard model Higgs boson decaying via H→ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−νν¯, where ℓ=e, μ, is presented. It is based on proton-proton collision data at s=7 TeV, collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in the first half of 2011 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04 fb−1. The data are compared to the expected standard model backgrounds. The data and the background expectations are found to be in agreement and upper limits are placed on the Higgs boson production cross section over the entire mass window considered; in particular, the production of a standard model Higgs boson is excluded in the region 340
