Over the years lots of marine biologists and scientists have made efforts to study the various problem related to the ocean and its animals. One such problem faced by the fisheries is the change in the physical and mental state of the fishes when they are affected by natural calamities, external agents, change in environment, epidemic outbreak or many such factors. Under such circumstances it’s probable that the fishes in the region may get affected and due to a small amount of bad fish the whole population could suffer which is a huge loss both biologically and economically. There are numerous research and studies back on the fact that fishes tend to change their behaviour in the situation of distress. The behavioural change is just in response to the distress caused to them either physically or psychologically. The motion of the fish over a period of time interval can help us learn about the behaviour it is showing. And a significant change in its pattern of motion can alarm us that there is some issue with the fish. The main idea is to identify and establish the relationship between the movements and behaviour of the fish. The video footage of a Tilapia Genus fish in a standard size aquarium set up with the help of surveillance cameras, tracked the motion of the fish in 2-D space is collected and the movement of the fish over a period of time is categorised. The paper presents research focused on decision reducts, a feature reduction mechanism inherent to rough sets theory. As a reduct enables to protect the discriminative properties of attributes with respect to described concepts, from the point of data representation, a reduct length is considered to be the most important measure of its quality. However, such approach is insufficient while taking into account the performance of a reduct-based rule classifier applied to test samples. When many reducts of the same length are available, they can lead to vastly different predictions. The paper provides a description for the proposed procedure for iterative reduct generation, which results in decrease of diversity in the observed levels of accuracy, supporting reduct selection. The procedure was applied for binary classification with balanced classes, for the stylometric task of authorship attribution.

The paper is dedicated to the area of feature selection, in particular a notion of attribute rankings that allow to estimate importance of variables. In the research presented for ranking construction a new weighting factor was defined, based on relative reducts. A reduct constitutes an embedded mechanism of feature selection, specific to rough set theory. The proposed factor takes into account the number of reducts in which a given attribute exists, as well as lengths of reducts. Two approaches for reduct generation were employed and compared, with search executed by a genetic algorithm. To validate the usefulness of the reduct-based rankings in the process of feature reduction, for gradually decreasing subsets of attributes, selected through rankings, sets of decision rules were induced in classical rough set approach. The performance of all rule classifiers was evaluated, and experimental results showed that the proposed rankings led to at least the same, or even increased classification accuracy for reduced sets of features than in the case of operating on the entire set of condition attributes. The experiments were performed on datasets from stylometry domain, with treating authorship attribution as a classification task, and stylometric descriptors as characteristic features defining writing styles.

A string is closed if it has length 1 or has a nonempty border without internal occurrences. In this paper we introduce the definition of a maximal closed substring (MCS), which is an occurrence of a closed substring that cannot be extended to the left nor to the right into a longer closed substring. MCSs with exponent at least 2 are commonly called runs;those with exponent smaller than 2, instead, are particular cases of maximal gapped repeats. We provide an algorithm that, given a string of length n locates all MCSs the string contains in O(n log n) time. © 2022, CC BY.

Bayesian uncertainty estimation of learned variational MRI reconstruction

Recent deep learning approaches focus on improving quantitative scores of dedicated benchmarks, and therefore only reduce the observation-related (aleatoric) uncertainty. However, the model-immanent (epistemic) uncertainty is less frequently systematically analyzed. In this work, we introduce a Bayesian variational framework to quantify the epistemic uncertainty. To this end, we solve the linear inverse problem of undersampled MRI reconstruction in a variational setting. The associated energy functional is composed of a data fidelity term and the total deep variation (TDV) as a learned parametric regularizer. To estimate the epistemic uncertainty we draw the parameters of the TDV regularizer from a multivariate Gaussian distribution, whose mean and covariance matrix are learned in a stochastic optimal control problem. In several numerical experiments, we demonstrate that our approach yields competitive results for undersampled MRI reconstruction. Due to advances in digitization technology, documentation efforts and digital library systems, increasingly large collections of visual Cultural Heritage (CH) object data becomes available, offering rich opportunities for domain analysis, e.g., for comparing, tracing and studying objects created over time. In principle, existing shape- and image-based similarity search methods can aid such domain analysis tasks. However, in practice, visual object data are given in different modalities, including 2D, 3D, sketches or conventional drawings like profile sections or unwrappings. In addition, collections may be distributed across different publications and repositories, posing a challenge for implementing encompassing search and analysis systems. We introduce a methodology and system for cross-modal visual search in CH object data. Specifically, we propose a new query modality based on 3D views enhanced by user sketches (3D+sketch). This allows for adding new context to the search, which is useful e.g., for searching based on incomplete query objects, or for testing hypotheses on existence of certain shapes in a collection. We present an appropriately designed workflow for constructing query views from incomplete 3D objects enhanced by a user sketch based on shape completion and texture inpainting. Visual cues additionally help users compare retrieved objects with the query. We apply our method on a set of relevant 3D and view-based CH object data, demonstrating the feasibility of our approach and its potential to support analysis of domain experts in Archaeology and the field of CH in general. © 2019 The Author(s)

The analysis of painted pottery is instrumental for understanding ancient Greek society and human behavior of past cultures in Archaeology. A key part of this analysis is the discovery of cross references to establish links and correspondences. However, due to the vast amount of documented images and 3D scans of pottery objects in today's domain repositories, manual search is very time consuming. computer aided retrieval methods are of increasing importance. Mostly, current retrieval systems for this kind of cultural heritage data only allow to search for pottery of similar vessel's shape. However, in many cases important similarity cues are given by motifs painted on these vessels. We present an interactive retrieval system that makes use of this information to allow for a motif-driven search in cultural heritage repositories. We address the problem of unsupervised motif extraction for preprocessing and the shape-based similarity search for Greek painted pottery. Our experimental evaluation on relevant repository data demonstrates effectiveness of our approach on examples of different motifs of interests. © 2019 Eurographics Association.

Understanding the physical properties of unconventional superconductors as well as of other correlated materials presents a formidable challenge. Their unusual evolution with doping, frequency, and temperature has frequently led to non-Fermi-liquid (non-FL) interpretations. Optical conductivity is a major challenge in this context. Here, the optical spectra of two archetypal cuprates, underdoped HgBa2CuO4+δ and optimally doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ, are interpreted based on the standard Fermi-liquid (FL) paradigm. At both dopings, perfect frequency-temperature FL scaling is found to be modified by the presence of a second, gapped electronic subsystem. This non-FL component emerges as a well-defined mid-infrared spectral feature after the FL contribution, determined independently by transport, is subtracted. Temperature, frequency, and doping evolution of the MIR feature identify a gapped rather than dissipative response. In contrast, the dissipative response is found to be relevant for pnictides and ruthenates. Such an unbiased FL/non-FL separation is extended across the cuprate phase diagram, capturing all the key features of the normal state and providing a natural explanation why the superfluid density is attenuated on the overdoped side. Thus, we obtain a unified interpretation of optical responses and transport measurements in all analyzed physical regimes and all analyzed compounds.

Alzheimer's disease is the primary cause of dementia. Due to the sluggish rate of progression of Alzheimer's disease, individuals have the opportunity to start receiving therapy early through routine testing. procedures since they are pricy and difficult to find. For many slowly advancing disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), the capacity to recognise changes in disease progression is essential. Machine learning methods with a high degree of modularity were used throughout the pipeline. We propose the use of Neutrosophic hidden Markov models (NHMMs) to simulate disease progression in a more thorough manner than the clinical phases of the disease. Due to the complexity and ambiguity of reality, decision-makers find it challenging to draw conclusions from precise data. Since they cannot be computed directly, the variables are encoded using a single interval Neutrosophic set. We showed that the trained HMM can imitate sickness development more accurately than the commonly acknowledged clinical phases. © (2023). All Rights Reserved.
