Emotions are of increasing interest to the HCI community and there is an enthusiastic spirit of adventure amongst researchers exploring this area. Much technical research has been done focussing on development of various proof-of-possibility studies and prototypical emotion components, but work done to date has been fragmented and lacks coherence. The goal of this workshop is to share information among researchers and practitioners working in this field through organized discussion and thematic working groups. This workshop will continue bringing people together, forming a community, supporting networking and collaboration to advocate coordinated work in this fascinating field of research. © BCS HCI Group Conference: Engage, HCI *** right reserved.

Contribution: A learning management system (LMS) incorporated with an advanced educational data mining module is proposed, as a means to mine efficiently from student performance records to provide valuable insights for educators in helping plan effective learning pedagogies, improve curriculum design, and guarantee quality of teaching. Background: An LMS streamlines the management of the teaching process in a centralized place, recording, tracking, and reporting the delivery of educational courses and student performance. Educational knowledge discovery from such an elearning system plays a crucial role in rule regulation, policy establishment, and system development. However, existing LMSs do not have embedded mining modules to directly extract knowledge. As educational modes become more complex, educational data mining efficiency from those heterogeneous student learning behaviours is gradually degraded. Intended outcomes: The design and application of the LMS enable educators to learn from past student performance experiences, empowering them to guide and intervene with students in time, and eventually improve their academic success. Application design: This study proposes an effective LMS which processes the stored data through an advanced educational data mining module. The mining module utilizes probability-based frequent pattern mining for generating candidate itemsets and updating LMS databases in each iteration for complexity reduction. In addition, the conditional probability increment ratio (CPIR) is deployed as an exceptionality measure to mine effective common and exception rules simultaneously. The iteratively generated rules can reveal academic performance patterns so that have merits in learning personal goal achievement. Findings: Through two illustrative case studies, experimental results demonstrate increased mining efficiency of the proposed mining module without information loss compared to classic educational mining algorithms. The digitization within the healthcare sector is an extensive topic for multiple ICT technologies, such as Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence. Over the past years, there has been an increasing interest in the storage, evaluation and visual representation of medical data. This led to a substantial amount of independent eHealth technologies, that are primarily concerned with information gathering and management. However, the multitude of existing tools makes it is difficult for the user to understand global relationships between different management systems. Therefore, we present Health@Hand an IoT system for monitoring vital and administrative data in the digital twin of an intensive care unit (ICU). The main goal of our system is to summarize and process real-time data in order to assist medical experts such as physician, head-nurses or controllers in their daily tasks. Health@Hand achieves this by providing a visual interface for the management and analysis of different medical data sources.

In this paper, a compact, geometrically simple, dual band and high gain coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed antenna for WLAN and X-band is proposed. The antenna is designed on Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate with overall size of 25 mm × 33 mm × 0.79 mm. The proposed antenna consists of circular and rectangular stubs with one rectangular slot. The stubs and slots are introduced in order to achieve the desired bandwidth and high gain. The proposed antenna is designed and analyzed using the electromagnetic (EM) tool HFSS. Moreover, the proposed antenna design is compared to previously published work, and the comparison shows that our proposed antenna is a good candidate for radar applications.

This study we handled (1+1)-dimensional modified-mixed KDV (mmKdV) equation for unique soliton solutions. For this purpose Firstly, auto-Bäcklund and Cole-Hopf transformations are created through the homogeneous balance method. Various soliton-like solutions are given by the trigonometric, hyperbolic, and exponential function waves and that leads to the extraction of novel periodic, dark, and bright soliton solutions. Moreover, the bilinear form of the model is found by utilizing the logarithmic transformation. Density, 3-D, and 2-D graphics are displayed to illustrate the dynamics of the acquired solutions. It is determined that the approach employed to obtain analytic solutions to nonlinear partial differential equation is efficient and powerful. © 2023 Elsevier GmbH

The rapid advancements in AI and Machine Learning necessitate a robust computational infrastructure to support cutting-edge research and industrial applications. From the academic and industrial AI community perspective, voiced in the recent ELISE project, the European AI platform is recommended to center around the EuroHPC growing ecosystem. It should be user-driven, easily accessible, powerful, and compliant with European regulations. AI-optimized and dedicated supercomputers for the European AI community are also coming, in addition to upgrading partitions of existing EuroHPC systems to ’AI enabled’ stage. Related calls have been initiated in September 2024. Further, conventional EuroHPC systems are suggested to be extended with quantum computing, edge AI, and neuromorphic computing to cater to AI models deployed on network edge devices and sustainability in the long run. The challenges are presented in three case studies, ranging from training Transformers on HPC to LLMs trained federally across three different Euro HPC systems to recent results on hybrid classical-quantum application. This paper concludes with case studies results-informed next steps believed to benefit AI practitioners and the broader AI community.

The nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is a fundamental and significant physical model that plays a crucial role in demonstrating the dynamics of optical solitons in the theory optical fibers. The propagation of solitons in nonlinear optical fibers has garnered substantial interest due to its broad spectrum of applications, particularly in ultrafast signal routing systems and short light pulses for communications. This article focuses on investigating the impact of multiplicative noise on the solutions of this governing model. To achieve this, three distinct methods, namely the enhanced modified extended tanh expansion (METE) method, the generalized Kudryashov (GK) approach and the extended modified auxiliary equation mapping (EMAEM) method are employed to obtain a new variety of stochastic solutions. The perception of how noise intensity impacts the transmission of waves is a fundamental and critical issue in various fields. In the context of this study, an equation describes an exact wave pattern under the condition that s (representing noise intensity) equals zero. In such cases, the observed pattern remains undisturbed and matches the expected theoretical wave pattern. However, as the strength of noise s increases, the observed pattern begins to deviate from the ideal wave pattern and exhibits signs of damage or distortion. Furthermore, the stability analysis for the stochastic NLSE is performed, providing valuable insights into the behavior solutions as the strength of multiplicative noise increases. The validation of computational results through stability analysis enhances the confidence in the findings of the study. All the mathematical calculations, as well as graphical representations, have been meticulously achieved to present a comprehensive and detailed understanding of the impact of multiplicative on soliton propagation in nonlinear optical fibers. © 2023 Elsevier GmbH

The pure STiO3 has been experimentally demonstrated to catalyze H2 production using water splitting, but the reaction can only be driven by Ultraviolet (UV) radiation due to the large band gap of SrTiO3. This motivated us to search efficient strategy to tune its band gap, so that it can function in the visible region of the solar spectrum. In this study, the electronic, optical and photocatalytic properties of Se-doped, and Te-doped SrTiO3 has been investigated using density functional theory (DFT) within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). Our results reveal that the effect of doping can lead to band gap narrowing without introducing any isolated mid-gap states. This improves greatly the visible light activity of SrTiO3 and depresses the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Furthermore, the locations of calculated band edges relative to the water reduction and oxidation levels for doped systems meet the water-splitting requirements. Consequently, our results show that the performance of SrTiO3 for hydrogen generation by photocatalytic water splitting is significantly enhanced with Se and Te doping. In particular, Te doping can enhance greatly the visible light photocatalytic activity of SrTiO3. We expect this study can provide a theoretical basis for a prospective experimental works. © 2021, CC BY.

We consider the problem of untangling a given (non-planar) straight-line circular drawing δG of an outerplanar graph G = (V, E) into a planar straight-line circular drawing by shifting a minimum number of vertices to a new position on the circle. For an outerplanar graph G, it is clear that such a crossing-free circular drawing always exists and we define the circular shifting number shift◦(δG) as the minimum number of vertices that are required to be shifted in order to resolve all crossings of δG. We show that the problem Circular Untangling, asking whether shift◦(δG) ≤ K for a given integer K, is NP-complete. For n-vertex outerplanar graphs, we obtain a tight upper bound of shift◦(δG) ≤ n − ⌊√n − 2⌋ − 2. Moreover, we study the Circular Untangling for almost-planar circular drawings, in which a single edge is involved in all the crossings. For this problem, we provide a tight upper bound shift◦(δG) ≤ ⌊n/2⌋ − 1 and present a constructive polynomial-time algorithm to compute the circular shifting number of almost-planar drawings. © 2021, CC BY.

For a variety of applications remote navigation of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) along a flight trajectory is an essential task. For instance, during search and rescue missions in outdoor scenes, an important goal is to ensure safe navigation. Assessed by the remote operator, this could mean avoiding collisions with obstacles, but moreover avoiding hazardous flight areas. State of the art approaches enable navigation along trajectories, but do not allow for indirect manipulation during motion. In addition, they suggest to use egocentric views which could limit understanding of the remote scene. With this work we introduce a novel indirect manipulation method, based on gravitational law, to recover safe navigation in the presence of hazardous flight areas. The indirect character of our method supports manipulation at far distances where common direct manipulation methods typically fail. We combine it with an immersive exocentric view to improve understanding of the scene. We designed three flavors of our method and compared them during a user study in a simulated scene. While with this method we present a first step towards a more extensive navigation interface, as future work we plan experiments in dynamic real-world scenes.
