How to determine complex MCDM model in the COMET method? Automotive sport measurement case study

Multi-criteria methods are used in systems designed to support decision-making or for prediction. One of these methods is the Characteristic Objects Method (COMET), which uses expert knowledge to calculate preference values when creating a rule base. The number of Characteristic Objects (COs) pairs necessary to perform comparisons depends on the model’s structure, the number of criteria and characteristic values. In this paper, it was decided to build a complex MCDM model based on the COMET method, which was used to predict the chances of overtaking during pit stops in Formula 1 races. To improve the performance of the model and reduce the necessary pairwise comparisons of COs, it was decided to split the structure into submodels aggregating criteria with similar characteristics to reduce the complexity of the problem. Additionally, the influence of each criterion on the obtained preference values and the final result was examined. By restructuring the model, it was possible to reduce the number of comparisons while maintaining the designed model’s correct operation.

With technology development approach to cleaning changed as well. The vacuum cleaner robot market suggests a wide choice of different models. Choosing the model with optimal price, engine power, noise level, and other significant parameters is troublesome. In this case, MCDA methods can be helpful, which also proofs that it can also be used to daily decision problems. In this paper, two of them are used: the COMET and the TOPSIS. The first step is to analyze the subject and determine characteristic criteria. The second – selecting some market models which would be ranked. The third – normalize data for the TOPSIS method. After these preparations, both methods can be applied to our models, and alternatives can be ranked. Two MCDA methods were selected to compare MCDA methods based on the distance to reference objects. This simple study case also shows that the COMET method returns more accurate results and presents the advantages of this method. In conclusion, further research directions are shortly discussed.

Cognition refers to the function of information perception and processing, which is the fundamental psychological essence of human beings. It is responsible for reasoning and decision-making, while its evaluation is significant for the aviation domain in mitigating potential safety risks. Existing studies tend to use varied methods for cognitive state evaluation yet have limitations in timeliness, generalisation, and interpretability. Accordingly, this study adopts brain functional connectivity with electroencephalography signals to capture associations in brain regions across multiple subjects for evaluating real-time cognitive states. Specifically, a virtual reality-based flight platform is constructed with multi-screen embedded. Three distinctive cognitive tasks are designed and each has three degrees of difficulty. Thirty subjects are acquired for analysis and evaluation. The results are interpreted through different perspectives, including inner-subject and cross-subject for task-wise and gender-wise underlying brain functional connectivity. Additionally, this study incorporates questionnaire-based, task performance-based, and physiological measure-based approaches to fairly label the trials. A multi-class cognitive state evaluation is further conducted with the active brain connections. Benchmarking results demonstrate that the identified brain regions have considerable influences in cognition, with a multi-class accuracy rate of 95.83% surpassing existing studies. The derived findings bring significance to understanding the dynamic relationships among human brain functional regions, cross-subject cognitive behaviours, and decision-making, which have promising practical application values. © 2024, CC BY.

The Belle ii experiment at the Super KEK B-factory (SuperKEKB) in Tsukuba, Japan, has been collecting e+e− collision data since March 2019. Operating at a record-breaking luminosity of up to 4.7 × 1034 cm−2 s−1, data corresponding to 424 fb−1 has since been recorded. The Belle ii Vertex Detector (VXD) is central to the Belle ii detector and its physics program and plays a crucial role in reconstructing precise primary and decay vertices. It consists of the outer four-layer Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) using double-sided silicon strips and the inner two-layer PiXel Detector (PXD) based on the Depleted P-channel Field Effect Transistor (DePFET) technology. The PXD DePFET structure combines signal generation and amplification within the pixels with a minimum pitch of (50 × 55) µm2. A high gain and a high Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) allow thinning the pixels to 75 µm while retaining a high pixel hit efficiency of about 99 % for the Belle ii PXD. As a consequence, the material budget of the full detector is kept low at ≈ 0.21%XX0 per layer in the acceptance region. This also includes contributions from the control, Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), and data processing Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) as well as from cooling and support structures. This article presents the experience gained from four years of operating the PXD;the first full-scale detector employing the DePFET technology in High Energy Physics. Overall, The PXD performance has met the expectations. Operating in the intense SuperKEKB environment poses many challenges that will also be discussed. The current PXD system remains incomplete with only 20 out of 40 modules having been installed. A full replacement has been constructed and is currently in its final testing stage before it will be installed into Belle ii during the ongoing long shutdown that will last throughout 2023. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivativ

The aim of this paper is to present new characterizations of cone-convex and explicitly cone-quasiconvex vector functions with respect to a proper closed solid convex cone of a real linear topological space. These characterizations are given in terms of classical convexity and explicit quasiconvexity of certain real-valued functions, defined by means of the nonlinear scalarization function introduced by Gerstewitz (Tammer) in 1983. © 2019 Journal of Applied and Numerical Optimization.

Smart cities are fast proliferating the global space in recent times. In order to achieve the envisioned next-generation cities, the smart city paradigm aspires to develop a completely integrated network-based infrastructure. With the development of innovative smart cities, ICT-based e-governance has made it possible for services to be delivered intelligently and interactively via online platforms. However, the communication between government agencies and other stakeholders in the smart city ecosystem is through open channels, which poses serious security concerns. In order to address this problem, this work proposes a robust remote client password authentication technique for e-governance applications in smart cities. The proposed authentication technique is lightweight, resistant to several attacks, and achieves low computational overhead.

Groundbreaking advances in theoretical and applied Artificial Intelligence (AI). DL algorithms are groundedin non-linear and complex artificial neural systems that progressively extract higher-level features from *** is frequently compared with human-level performance in real-world tasks, such as clinical diagnostics. Itis also a turning point in solving otherwise intractable problems in the design of virtual agents or robotics;orin providing novel insight into disease progress in genomics and Neuroimaging (NI), understanding humanbrain function, the automation of industrial processes based on computer vision, and so on. In this paper, themost relevant advances from the last few years in AI and several applications to neuroscience, neuroimaging,computer vision, and robotics are presented, reviewed and discussed. In this way, we summarize the state-ofthe-art in AI methods, models and applications within a collection of works presented at the 9th InternationalConference on the Interplay between Natural and Artificial Computation (IWINAC). The works presentedin this paper are excellent examples of new scientific discoveries made in laboratories that are successfullytransferred to real-life applications. © 2023, The Authors. Over the past decades, superconducting qubits have emerged as one of the leading hardware platforms for realizing a quantum processor. Consequently, researchers have made significant effort to understand the loss channels that limit the coherence times of superconducting qubits. A major source of loss has been attributed to two level systems that are present at the material interfaces. We recently showed that replacing the metal in the capacitor of a transmon with tantalum yields record relaxation and coherence times for superconducting qubits, motivating a detailed study of the tantalum surface. In this work, we study the chemical profile of the surface of tantalum films grown on c-plane sapphire using variable energy X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (VEXPS). We identify the different oxidation states of tantalum that are present in the native oxide resulting from exposure to air, and we measure their distribution through the depth of the film. Furthermore, we show how the volume and depth distribution of these tantalum oxidation states can be altered by various chemical treatments. By correlating these measurements with detailed measurements of quantum devices, we can improve our understanding of the microscopic device losses. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. In this paper we present four cases of minimal solutions for two-view relative pose estimation by exploiting the affine transformation between feature points and we demonstrate efficient solvers for these cases. It is shown, that under the planar motion assumption or with knowledge of a vertical direction, a single affine correspondence is sufficient to recover the relative camera pose. The four cases considered are two-view planar relative motion for calibrated cameras as a closed-form and a least-squares solution, a closed-form solution for unknown focal length and the case of a known vertical direction. These algorithms can be used efficiently for outlier detection within a RANSAC loop and for initial motion estimation. All the methods are evaluated on both synthetic data and real-world datasets from the KITTI benchmark. The experimental results demonstrate that our methods outperform comparable state-of-the-art methods in accuracy with the benefit of a reduced number of needed RANSAC iterations.

Computational parquetry: Fabricated style transfer with wood pixels

Parquetry is the art and craft of decorating a surface with a pattern of differently colored veneers of wood, stone or other materials. Traditionally, the process of designing and making parquetry has been driven by color, using the texture found in real wood only for stylization or as a decorative effect. Here, we introduce a computational pipeline that draws from the rich natural structure of strongly textured real-world veneers as a source of detail in order to approximate a target image as faithfully as possible using a manageable number of parts. This challenge is closely related to the established problems of patch-based image synthesis and stylization in some ways, but fundamentally different in others. Most importantly, the limited availability of resources (any piece of wood can only be used once) turns the relatively simple problem of finding the right piece for the target location into the combinatorial problem of finding optimal parts while avoiding resource collisions. We introduce an algorithm that allows to efficiently solve an approximation to the problem. It further addresses challenges like gamut mapping, feature characterization and the search for fabricable cuts. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the system by fabricating a selection of pieces of parquetry from different kinds of unstained wood veneer. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.
