Thermal spraying has emerged as a viable solution to produce wear and corrosion protective coatings on planar or large radial symmetric parts. However, in the field of industrial applications there is an increasing demand for parts with more complex shape. This, in turn, leads to the challenge to produce near-net-shape coatings with constant coating properties along the parts entire contour. The present study investigates the influence of the outer radius size on the deposition rate, the properties (hardness and porosity) and morphology of HVOF sprayed fine structured WC-12Co coatings. As feedstock material an agglomerated and sintered WC-12Co powder with a size distribution of 2-10 μm was used. For the spray experiments the process parameters were held constant, while the radii were varied between 5-40 mm. It has been generally shown that HVOF spraying of fine powders is more robust against the alteration of the curvature than other spray processes. However the deposition rate decreases compared to planar substrates.
In recent years, measuring surface reflectance has become an established method for high quality renderings. In this context, especially non-parametric representations got a lot of attention as they allow for a very a...

Visual Analytics is successfully employed for an integrated data analysis by means of combining visual and analytical methods. The starting point for current Visual Analytics tools and workows is usually the readily available data set. Rarely though, Visual Analytics goes beyond the data set and also incorporates the data generating processes that have led to the data in the first place into the analysis. And indeed, in many use case scenarios, this is hardly possible, as these processes cannot be captured as data to be analyzed themselves. Yet for the applications, in which this is feasible, new opportunities and challenges open up. In this paper, we illustrate these opportunities and challenges by our efforts to bring together Visual Analytics and stochastic simulation for cell biological applications. The integration of both is possible, as the data generating process runs in silico and can thus be captured and analyzed alongside the mere simulation result. For this, we present solutions and tools, which permit Visual Analytics on all stages of this particular data generating process - on the stages of the model, the experiment, the simulation runs, and a combination of all three.
Physical characteristics and constraints of today's head-mounted displays (HMDs) often impair interaction in immersive virtual environments (VEs). For instance, due to the limited field of view (FOV) subtended by ...

In this paper we present PhotoPath, an image synthesis technique that allows the visualization of paths through real world environments in a single intuitive picture. Given a series of input photographs taken with a hand-held camera along the path, our method generates an image that creates the impression of looking along the path all the way to the destination regardless of any curves or corners in the route. Rendered from a pedestrian perspective, this visualization supports intuitive wayfinding and orientation while avoiding occlusion of path segments in the image. Our approach intentionally avoids an involved and error-prone scene reconstruction. Instead we advocate the use of planar geometry proxies estimated from the sparse point-cloud obtained with Structure-from-Motion. The proxy geometry is spatially deformed in order to align the curved path with the straight viewing direction of the synthesized view. Finally, we propose a novel image composition algorithm accommodating for parallax and occlusion artifacts due to the approximation errors of the actual scene geometry.
