The first evidence for X(3872) production in relativistic heavy ion collisions is reported. The X(3872) production is studied in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02 TeV per nucleon pair, using the decay chain X(3872)→J/ψπ+π−→μ+μ−π+π−. The data were recorded with the CMS detector in 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb−1. The measurement is performed in the rapidity and transverse momentum ranges |y|<1.6 and 15

Very high energy emissions are believed to happen through particle acceleration in the jet originating from microquasars. This hypothesis was corroborated by the recent detections from the HAWC collaboration of very high energy gamma-ray events in the vicinity of SS433 and V4641Sgr microquasars. Through hadronic processes, neutrinos are produced together with these gamma-rays. We present results from a search of a neutrino signal from 13 microquasars which, according to multiwavelength observations, exhibited events of fast bulk ejecta in the context of outbursts characterized by strong X-Ray flares and spectral state transitions. This search is focused on X-Ray flaring and transitioning periods determined from RXTE/ASM, MAXI/GSC and Swift/BAT public data monitoring. The analysis is performed using data from the ANTARES neutrino telescope, which was dismantled during 2022 after 16 years of steady data acquisition, as well as with its successor KM3NeT, in construction in the Mediterranean Sea, with data from the KM3NeT/ORCA detector in its 6 lines configuration. No significant excess was found and upper limits on the neutrino fluxes are computed in the total observed flaring times and in specific spectral states. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb−1 of p+Pb data collected at sNN=8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, RCP, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The RCP shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, xp, while no such trend is observed as a function of xPb. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to xp∼10−3 and xPb∼4×10−4.

In 2017, a high-energy muon neutrino detected by IceCube was found positionally coincident with the direction of a known blazar, TXS 0506+056, in a state of enhanced γ-ray emission. Soon after, IceCube reported a compelling evidence for an earlier neutrino flare from the same direction found in the archival data, this time not accompanied by any observed electromagnetic activity. The IceCube findings suggest searching for flaring neutrino emissions from astrophysical sources, not necessarily accompanied by flares detected in γ-rays. The analysis presented in this contribution scans the events collected by the ANTARES neutrino telescope in 13 years of data taking in a search for clustering in space and time. The analysis method is based on an unbinned maximum likelihood approach. Generic Gaussian and Box profiles are assumed for the signal time emission, with both the central time and duration of the flare being free parameters in the likelihood maximization. Recent years have brought big advances in the field of Data mining;this is due to the immense advances in technologies which facilitate the analysis of data. In particular, binary classification techniques are a subdomain of Data Mining which is used to classify data into two classes according to desired criteria. Different algorithms have been developed and they can be categorized into statistical and machine learning. Each category has its own limits. In this paper, a set of molecules is chosen to illustrate the proposed approach of binary classification. The considered molecules are described by means of size, shape, functionality and other expert descriptors. This paper defines new measure functions to quantify the similarities between the molecules and then combines them in a new approach which differs from actual algorithms by its reliability computations. Results of the proposed approach exceeded most common classification techniques with a f-measure exceeding 70% on this molecules Dataset. © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ′±νℓ+ℓ−γ (ℓ(′)=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

In this paper we present minimal solutions for two-view relative motion estimation based on a homography formulation. By assuming a known vertical direction (e.g. from an IMU) and assuming a dominant ground plane we demonstrate that rotation and translation estimation can be decoupled. This result allows us to reduce the number of point matches needed to compute a motion hypothesis. We then derive different algorithms based on this decoupling that allow an efficient estimation. We also demonstrate how these algorithms can be used efficiently to compute an optimal inlier set using exhaustive search or histogram voting instead of a traditional RANSAC step. Our methods are evaluated on synthetic data and on the KITTI data set, demonstrating that our methods are well suited for visual odometry in road driving scenarios.

In the era of precision measurements of neutrino oscillation parameters, it is necessary for experiments to disentangle discrepancies that may indicate physics beyond the Standard Model in the neutrino sector. KM3NeT/ORCA is a water Cherenkov neutrino detector under construction and anchored at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The detector is designed to study the oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos and determine the neutrino mass ordering. This paper focuses on the initial configuration of ORCA, referred to as ORCA6, which comprises six out of the foreseen 115 detection units of photosensors. A high-purity neutrino sample was extracted during 2020 and 2021, corresponding to an exposure of 433 kton-years. This sample is analysed following a binned log-likelihood approach to search for invisible neutrino decay, in a three-flavour neutrino oscillation scenario, where the third neutrino mass state ν3 decays into an invisible state, e.g. a sterile neutrino. The resulting best fit of the invisible neutrino decay parameter is (formula presented), corresponding to a scenario with θ23 in the second octant and normal neutrino mass ordering. We construct a general Bayesian framework that can be used to organize beliefs and to update them when new information becomes available. The framework includes classical, quantum, and other alternative models of Bayesian reasoning that may arise in future physical theories. It is only based on the rule of conditional probabilities and the requirement that the agent's beliefs are consistent across time. From these requirements, we show that ideal experiments within every Bayesian theory must satisfy the exclusivity principle, which is a key to explain quantum correlations. As a consequence, the limits to the strength of correlations set by the exclusivity principle can be interpreted as the ultimate limits set by Bayesian consistency. The luminosity determination for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during Run 2 is presented, with pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $$\sqrt{s}=13$$ TeV. The absolute luminosity scale is determined using van der Meer beam separation scans during dedicated running periods in each year, and extrapolated to the physics data-taking regime using complementary measurements from several luminosity-sensitive detectors. The total uncertainties in the integrated luminosity for each individual year of data-taking range from 0.9% to 1.1%, and are partially correlated between years. After standard data-quality selections, the full Run 2 pp data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $$140.1\pm 1.2$$ $$\hbox {fb}^{-1}$$ , i.e. an uncertainty of 0.83%. A dedicated sample of low-pileup data recorded in 2017–2018 for precision Standard Model physics measurements is analysed separately, and has an integrated luminosity of $$338.1\pm 3.1$$ $$\hbox {pb}^{-1}$$ .
