Recently, numerous highly-valuable Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have been trained using deep learning algorithms. To protect the Intellectual Property (IP) of the original owners over such DNN models, backdoor-based watermarks have been extensively studied. However, most of such watermarks fail upon model extraction attack, which utilizes input samples to query the target model and obtains the corresponding outputs, thus training a substitute model using such input-output pairs. In this paper, we propose a novel watermark to protect IP of DNN models against model extraction, named MEA-Defender. In particular, we obtain the watermark by combining two samples from two source classes in the input domain and design a watermark loss function that makes the output domain of the watermark within that of the main task samples. Since both the input domain and the output domain of our watermark are indispensable parts of those of the main task samples, the watermark will be extracted into the stolen model along with the main task during model extraction. We conduct extensive experiments on four model extraction attacks, using five datasets and six models trained based on supervised learning and self-supervised learning algorithms. The experimental results demonstrate that MEA-Defender is highly robust against different model extraction attacks, and various watermark removal/detection approaches.

Existing works in event extraction typically extract event arguments within the sentence scope. However, besides the sentence level, events may also be naturally presented at the document level. A document-level event usually reflects, to some extent, the theme (i.e., the main content) of the document (e.g., electronic medical records and news articles), which is thus referred to as the thematic event. Thematic Event Extraction (TEE) aims to extract the arguments of thematic events. TEE faces a major challenge, i.e., the sparsity and dispersion of arguments, which means that the arguments of a thematic event are dispersed in different sentences of the document. To overcome this challenge, we propose an Event-related Sentence Detection based TEE model, called ESDTEE, which first detects the sentences related to the thematic event and then extracts the arguments only within these detected sentences using existing models. Extensive experiments with comprehensive analyses demonstrate the effectiveness of ESDTEE.

Despite edge computing reducing communication delays associated with cloud computing, privacy concerns remain a significant challenge when sharing data from edge-based consumer electronics (CE) or Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. Ciphertext policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) is a cryptographic tool that facilitates intricate and refined access control. It can deliver more flexible, secure, compact, and effective access control policies for the cloud data. In the case of a conventional CP-ABE scheme, the keys can only be issued and disseminated by a trusted central authority (CA). However, if the CA is compromised, the entire system becomes more susceptible to assaults or failures, which leads to a single-point failure. In this article, we propose a Ring-Learning with Errors (Ring-LWE)-based MA-CP-ABE scheme that is effectively resolved by the multi-authority CP-ABE (MA-CP-ABE), and it ensures the security against quantum attacks. The threshold secret sharing by Shamir and the Lagrange interpolation formula are applied in the key-generation and decryption procedures of the proposed scheme, which make it easier to segment and restore the private keys. The proposed scheme is implemented in the CE-enabled IoT-based smart healthcare applications using the blockchain technology as a secure storage. A detailed comparative study, security analysis and experimental results with the existing relevant schemes shows that the proposed scheme exhibits superior security and better efficiency as compared to other schemes, demonstrating its feasibility in practical IoT-based healthcare applications. © 2025 IEEE.

Operations and Maintenance (O&M) cost optimization in the nuclear energy industry is an imperative task for developing sustainable systems and efficient renewable technologies. We present a modular probabilistic framework for addressing maintenance scheduling challenges for small modular nuclear reactors using a Dynamic Bayesian Network (DBN) approach that monitors fatigue and performance in multiple subsystems of the reactors and provides a probabilistic assessment for potential failure events. The DBN framework fuses information from potential digital twins that assimilate real time data from several sensors with different time granularities in order to monitor and update thecurrentstate of knowledge aboutthestatus of several fatigue or performance criteria. Comprised of multi-modal digital twins (empirical, data- and physics-based twins), this DBN serves as a predictive framework forecasting the future state of specific reactor subsystems and enhancing decision-making capabilities associated with preventing system failure and minimizing the time and cost of maintenance events. The work presented in this paper is a holistic approach for monitoring and safeguarding complex, multi-component engineering systems where maintenance scheduling is critical and does not restrict itself to nuclear environments. A major danger to rice farming, rice sheath rot disease affects the quantity and quality of one of the main food crops grown worldwide. This research uses a large dataset gathered from many sources, such as agricultural universities, research centres, and first hand field observations, to provide a unique method of diagnosing Rice Sheath Rot disease using cutting-edge deep learning algorithms. Our work is primarily focused on creating a dependable and effective diagnostic tool using state-of-the-art image processing and machine learning methods. Wavelet filters are applied in the first step of our approach to pre-process photos. This method is essential for eliminating noise and improving the quality of the dataset, which is made up of high-definition photos of rice plants with the disease Sheath Rot. The colour, shape, and texture of the sick spots are then analyzed using advanced feature extraction techniques. When separating plant tissues that are diseased from those that are not, these characteristics are essential. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), our primary diagnostic model’s foundation, were selected due to their shown efficacy in picture recognition and classification applications. The preprocessed and feature-enhanced dataset is used to train the CNN model, giving it the ability to recognize the complex patterns and traits connected to Sheath Rot illness. The architecture of the model is built to maximize efficiency and accuracy, guaranteeing quick and accurate illness identification. By utilizing AI and deep learning, the proposed method seeks to not only help farmers and agronomists identify diseases early on but also make a substantial contribution to the area of agricultural disease diagnostics. Combine that our method, which combines CNN-based analysis with wavelet-filtered pre-processing establishes a new standard for the identification and treatment of Rice Sheath Rot disease. This paper proposes FPN-ResUNet, which uses feature points-based restoration and nonlinear decay rate residual within a U-shape architecture to restore blurry and wet fingerprints within size constraints effectively. Our approach aims to restore fingerprints effectively while avoiding over-restoration and preserving local matching feature points, which reduces the false rejection rate (FRR). We develop novel residual blocks, which feature a nonlinear decay mechanism that optimizes weight allocation between blocks to enhance feature extraction capabilities. Furthermore, our residual feature points fusion module restores contextual information by fusing matching feature points and features from the previous *** comprehensive experiments on real-world data, we achieved a remarkable 9.4% reduction in FRR. Our method outperforms the basic U-Net framework [1] by 50.52% in overall performance. We improved 48.35% over FPDMNet [2] and 58.77% over DenseUNet [3] which is trained with small patches. Moreover, PGT-Net [4] is also used for small areas of wet fingerprints, but our FPNResUNet outperformed it by 72.51%.

RoadFormer: Duplex Transformer for RGB-Normal Semantic Road Scene Parsing

The recent advancements in deep convolutional neural networks have shown significant promise in the domain of road scene parsing. Nevertheless, the existing works focus primarily on freespace detection, with little attention given to hazardous road defects that could compromise both driving safety and comfort. In this article, we introduce RoadFormer, a novel Transformer-based data-fusion network developed for road scene parsing. RoadFormer utilizes a duplex encoder architecture to extract heterogeneous features from both RGB images and surface normal information. The encoded features are subsequently fed into a novel heterogeneous feature synergy block for effective feature fusion and recalibration. The pixel decoder then learns multi-scale long-range dependencies from the fused and recalibrated heterogeneous features, which are subsequently processed by a Transformer decoder to produce the final semantic prediction. Additionally, we release SYN-UDTIRI, the first large-scale road scene parsing dataset that contains over 10,407 RGB images, dense depth images, and the corresponding pixel-level annotations for both freespace and road defects of different shapes and sizes. Extensive experimental evaluations conducted on our SYN-UDTIRI dataset, as well as on three public datasets, including KITTI road, CityScapes, and ORFD, demonstrate that RoadFormer outperforms all other state-of-the-art networks for road scene parsing. Data security is becoming increasingly critical as outsourced data services flourish. An effective solution for ensuring data confidentiality in the cloud is attribute-based searchable encryption (ABSE). However, most extant ABSE solutions have not been able to simultaneously achieve rich expressive queries, result validation, attribute revocation, and policy hiding, and there are problems such as inflexibility in query methods and access control capabilities, insufficient scalability and practicality, and privacy leakage. In particular, it should be noted that most ABSE schemes fail to promise the privacy security of access policies and are susceptible to offline keyword guessing attack. Hidden policy-ABSE (HP-ABSE) has been proposed to tackle the issue of explicit attribute values in access policies potentially compromising privacy. Nevertheless, in most existing HP-ABSE schemes, an adversary may initiate attribute values guessing attack to speculate on the values of attribute within access strategy. To this end, this paper proposes partially hidden policy attribute-based multi-keyword searchable encryption with verification and revocation (PHP-ABMKSE-VR). PHP-ABMKSE-VR scheme is practical, secure, as well as effective, making it appropriate for real-world scenarios like smart healthcare, as demonstrated by the experimental outcomes and safety analysis. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Multi-modality image fusion (MMIF) entails synthesizing images with detailed textures and prominent objects. Existing methods tend to use general feature extraction to handle different fusion tasks. However, these methods have difficulty breaking fusion barriers across various modalities owing to the lack of targeted learning routes. In this work, we propose a multi-scenario feature joint learning architecture, MLFuse, that employs the commonalities of multi-modality images to deconstruct the fusion progress. Specifically, we construct a cross-modal knowledge reinforcing network that adopts a multipath calibration strategy to promote information communication between different images. In addition, two professional networks are developed to maintain the salient and textural information of fusion results. The spatial-spectral domain optimizing network can learn the vital relationship of the source image context with the help of spatial attention and spectral attention. The edge-guided learning network utilizes the convolution operations of various receptive fields to capture image texture information. The desired fusion results are obtained by aggregating the outputs from the three networks. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of MLFuse for infrared-visible image fusion and medical image fusion. The excellent results of downstream tasks (i.e., object detection and semantic segmentation) further verify the high-quality fusion performance of our method.
