Matrix-pattern-oriented Ho-Kashyap classifier has been demonstrated to have a superior classification performance to its vector classifier. However, it is found that the matrixized classifier takes a large computational complexity for convergence in some cases. To overcome the disadvantage, this paper introduces the early stopping technique into the matrixized Ho-Kashyap classifier and presents a Matrix-pattern-oriented Ho-Kashyap classifier with Early Stopping named MatHKES. The presented MatHKES adopts early stopping as a new regularization technique instead of adding a regularization parameter in the criterion. The proposed algorithm achieves: 1) a less running time;2) a competitive or better classification performance;3) an avoidance of overfitting in training. © 2008 IEEE.

Adaboost learning with feature selection for image annotation

Image annotation technique can be formulated as a classification problem. In this paper, Adaboost learning with feature selection is proposed for image annotation. In each iteration of Adaboost learning, bi-coded chromosome genetic algorithm is used to select optimal weighted feature subsets, and support vector machine classifiers are generated using the optimal weighted feature subsets as the weak classifiers. The experiments performed over 2000 classified Corel images show that our image annotation technique can remove some redundant image visual features and improve image annotation precision significantly. The technology of Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) can utilize unused licensed bands not being used by licensed users to improve the capacity and throughput of multi-hop wireless networks working on the ISM bands. However, DSA also brings us a new challenge: how to network the radios in multi-hop DSA networks to improve network performance, such as throughput and end-to-end delay? To address this issue, we propose a STability-Aware Routing Protocol (STARP) for multi-hop DSA networks. STARP can find the most stable path among multi paths to the destination for upper layer protocol. STARP evaluates path stability by utilizing a novel routing metric, which takes into account spectrum switching frequency, spectrum usage, and path length together. Simulation results of NS-2 show STARP is efficient and robust. In addition, STARP can achieve good improvement of TCP performance and shorten end-to-end packet delay significantly. The system management technologies based on simple network management protocol (SNMP), web based enterprise management (WBEM) and web services distributed management (WSDM) are evaluated on the aspect of scalability, compatibility and manageability. The comparison are that the performance of SNMP is better than WBEM and WSDM, but the implement complexity, scalability, compatibility and interoperability of SNMP is poor than WBEM and WSDM.

The fuzzy knowledge plays an important role in many applications on the semantic web which faces imprecise and vague information. The current ontology languages on the semantic web use description logics as their logic foundation, which are insufficient to deal with fuzzy knowledge. Comparisons expressions between fuzzy membership degrees are frequently used in fuzzy knowledge systems. However, the current fuzzy extensions of description logics are not support the expression of such comparisons. This paper defines fuzzy comparison cuts to represent comparison expressions, extends fuzzy description logics by importing fuzzy comparison cuts and introducing new constructors. Furthermore, the reasoning algorithm is proposed. It enables representation and reasoning for fuzzy knowledge on the semantic web. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The distributed fuzzy ontologies play an important role in semantic web. Most current solutions are proposed respectively on one of these two aspects. To represent distributed fuzzy ontology, we combine fuzzy description logics and E-connections, and present distributed extended fuzzy description logic ( ). This novel logical approach couples both fuzzy and distributed features within description logics. Description logics provide a logic foundation of the semantic web and ontology languages, but they are insufficient to deal with fuzzy ontology, which plays an important role in web applications. The fuzzy description logics support representation and reasoning for fuzzy ontology. Comparisons between fuzzy membership degrees are frequently used in fuzzy ontology. However, the current fuzzy description logics don't support the expression of such comparisons. This paper defines fuzzy comparison cuts to represent comparison expressions, and extends fuzzy description logics by importing fuzzy comparison cuts and introducing new constructors. A family of fuzzy description logics with comparison expressions, which have different expressive abilities and reasoning complexities, are presented. They enable representation and reasoning for expressive fuzzy ontology on the semantic web.

Using image classification approach for automatic image annotation is one promising method. In order to improve image annotation accuracy, recent researchers propose to use AdaBoost algorithm for the ensemble of classifiers. But in these researches, only fewer features are used. We construct multi-class classifiers for all the image low-level feature of Multimedia Content Description Interface and their potential combinations respectively, it-nearest neighbor classifier is used as the base classifier and 'one vs. one' scheme is chosen to build multi-class classifiers. A bi-coded chromosome genetic algorithm is used to select the optimal classifier subset as weak classifiers and corresponding weights, which are used for the combination of an ensemble classifier by weighted majority voting scheme. The results of experiment over 2000 classified Corel images show that the approach selects 4 of 325 multi-class classifiers as weak classifiers as well as corresponding optimized weights to generate an ensemble classifier. The ensemble classifier created by the bi-coded chromosome genetic algorithm has higher accuracy than that by AdaBoost algorithm.

In image annotation system, performance is highly desired. We use a bi-coded chromosome-based genetic algorithm to optimize the weights of multimedia content description interface (MPEG-7) feature descriptors and select optimal feature descriptor subset simultaneously. Two genetic codes are used: a real code represents the weights corresponding to MPEG-7 descriptors; a binary one denotes the presence or absence of feature descriptors in the optimal descriptor subset. The genetic algorithm fitness function takes into account support vector machinepsilas classification accuracy and the number of selected feature descriptors. The result of experiments over 2000 classified Corel images shows that the approach selects 4 of 25 MPEG-7 feature descriptors as optimal feature descriptor subset as well as corresponding optimized weights. With the selected optimal feature descriptor subset and weights, the accuracy and efficiency of image annotation system can be improved.
