L1-predictor–corrector method for ψ-Caputo type fractional differential equations

This paper proposes a three-point L1-based predictor–corrector scheme for the ψ-Caputo derivative. The L1-based rule and linear spline-based interpolation are utilized to perform the discretization of the derivative. The Daftardar-Gejji Jafari scheme (DGJ) is used to frame the iterative scheme. The error in the discretization procedure and the proposed approach is theoretically verified. The stability of the proposed approach is given in detail. Several numerical examples are solved to prove the numerical efficacy of the approach. An example is given by using the properties of the ψ-Caputo derivative to compare the proposed approach. Further, the computer virus model and the Chen system are simulated to demonstrate the method’s accuracy for a system of equations. © The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Sociedade Brasileira de Matemática Aplicada e Computacional 2025.

Optimizing solar radiation prediction: a novel SVM approach for renewable energy systems

The global transition toward renewable energy sources, driven by fossil fuel depletion and environmental imperatives, has positioned solar power as a crucial sustainable alternative. This study presents an advanced methodological framework for solar radiation (SR) prediction utilizing Support Vector Machine (SVM) techniques. The research analyzes comprehensive solar radiation data collected from India’s Vellore district throughout 2023, implementing a novel Support Vector Regression (SVR) approach with both polynomial and radial basis function (RBF) kernels. While conventional methodologies predominantly focus on minimizing training errors, our approach emphasizes reducing the generalization error bound to enhance predictive performance. The proposed model incorporates diverse meteorological parameters for SR prediction, demonstrating superior generalization capabilities compared to traditional approaches. Empirical results indicate that the SVR_rbf model significantly outperformed both SVR_poly and artificial neural network (ANN) models in SR prediction accuracy. The model's efficacy is validated through rigorous performance metrics: RMSE (10.3032), MAE (4.2728), MAPE (0.0152), and R² (0.9795). This research advances the understanding of machine learning applications in renewable energy forecasting, particularly for regions with limited meteorological data availability. Research findings enhance solar energy utilization and contribute to the transition towards sustainable energy. Future research directions may explore the integration of additional environmental parameters and the model’s adaptability across diverse geographical contexts. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer Applications and Management 2025.

In this study we theoretically demonstrate ultrahigh-resolution two-dimensional atomic localization within a three-levelλ-type atomic medium via superposition of asymmetric and symmetric standing wave *** analysis provides an understanding of the precise spatial localization of atomic positions at the atomic level,utilizing advanced theoretical approaches and principles of quantum *** dynamical behavior of a three-level atomic system is thoroughly analyzed using the density matrix formalism within the realm of quantum mechanics.A theoretical approach is constructed to describe the interaction between the system and external fields,specifically a control field and a probe *** absorption spectrum of the probe field is thoroughly examined to clarify the spatial localization of the atom within the proposed configuration.A theoretical investigation found that symmetric and asymmetric superposition phenomena significantly influence the localized peaks within a two-dimensional spatial ***,the emergence of one and two sharp localized peaks was observed within a one-wavelength *** observed notable influences of the intensity of the control field,probe field detuning and decay rates on atomic ***,we have achieved an unprecedented level of ultrahigh resolution and precision in localizing an atom within an area smaller thanλ/35×λ/*** findings hold promise for potential applications in fields such as Bose-Einstein condensation,nanolithography,laser cooling,trapping of neutral atoms and the measurement of center-of-mass wave functions.

An Inexact Bregman Proximal Difference-of-Convex Algorithm with Two Types of Relative Stopping Criteria

In this paper, we consider a class of difference-of-convex (DC) optimization problems, which require only a weaker restricted L-smooth adaptable property on the smooth part of the objective function, instead of the standard global Lipschitz gradient continuity assumption. Such problems are prevalent in many contemporary applications such as compressed sensing, statistical regression, and machine learning, and can be solved by a general Bregman proximal DC algorithm (BPDCA). However, the existing BPDCA is developed based on the stringent requirement that the involved subproblems must be solved exactly, which is often impractical and limits the applicability of the BPDCA. To facilitate the practical implementations and wider applications of the BPDCA, we develop an inexact Bregman proximal difference-of-convex algorithm (iBPDCA) by incorporating two types of relative-type stopping criteria for solving the subproblems. The proposed inexact framework has considerable flexibility to encompass many existing exact and inexact methods, and can accommodate different types of errors that may occur when solving the subproblem. This enables the potential application of our inexact framework across different DC decompositions to facilitate the design of a more efficient DCA scheme in practice. The global subsequential convergence and the global sequential convergence of our iBPDCA are established under suitable conditions including the Kurdyka–Lojasiewicz property. Some numerical experiments on the 1-2 regularized least squares problem and the constrained 1-2 sparse optimization problem are conducted to show the superior performance of our iBPDCA in comparison to existing algorithms. This study addresses the deficiencies in the assumptions of the results in Chen and Yang, 2017 [1] due to the lack of uniformity. We first show the missing hypothesis by presenting a counterexample. Then we prove why they are wrong in that form and show the errors in the proof of the main result of [1]. Next, we compare the assumptions and related results of [1] with similar works in the literature. Lastly, we give suggestions to complement the shortcomings of the hypotheses and thus correct them. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Hardware Acceleration for HPS Algorithms in Two and Three Dimensions

We provide a flexible, open-source framework for hardware acceleration, namely massively-parallel execution on general-purpose graphics processing units (GPUs), applied to the hierarchical Poincaré–Steklov (HPS) family of algorithms for building fast direct solvers for linear elliptic partial differential equations. To take full advantage of the power of hardware acceleration, we propose two variants of HPS algorithms to improve performance on two- and three-dimensional problems. In the two-dimensional setting, we introduce a novel recomputation strategy that minimizes costly data transfers to and from the GPU;in three dimensions, we modify and extend the adaptive discretization technique of Geldermans and Gillman [2019] to greatly reduce peak memory usage. We provide an open-source implementation of these methods written in JAX, a high-level accelerated linear algebra package, which allows for the first integration of a high-order fast direct solver with automatic differentiation tools. We conclude with extensive numerical examples showing our methods are fast and accurate on two- and three-dimensional problems. © 2025, CC BY.

The Swanepoel method is a widely used optical technique for characterizing thin films through normal-incidence transmission measurements. A critical step in this approach involves extracting the upper and lower envelopes of the measured oscillatory spectrum. By analyzing the transmission spectrum and its corresponding envelopes, the Swanepoel procedure enables precise determination of the film refractive index and extinction coefficient. However, even minor inaccuracies in envelope construction can propagate significant errors into the final characterization results. To address this challenge, we present what we believe to be a novel physics-informed optimization algorithm for envelope detection. Our mathematical model reformulates the envelope detection problem as a global optimization task that enforces the physical properties of the Swanepoel envelopes. Extensive validation on fifty randomly generated transmission spectra demonstrates unprecedented accuracy: the method achieves root-mean-square errors (RMSE) below 0.10% for the upper envelope and 0.06% for the lower envelope (more than doubling the accuracy of current state-of-the-art approaches). Furthermore, the proposed model has been assessed with two experimental transmission spectra, demonstrating its robustness and accuracy with real noisy data. We have developed an open-source Python software package (see text below). This software includes not only our innovative envelope construction algorithm but also additional envelope drawing algorithms for comparison and an efficient implementation of the Swanepoel method, enabling complete optical characterization of thin films. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

In this paper, we consider the Hermitian $$\{P, k + 1\}$$ -(anti-)reflexive solutions to the quaternion matrix equation $$AXB+CXD=E$$ and $$AX=E,$$ respectively. We use the complex representation method to obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -reflexive solution (resp. Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -anti-reflexive solution), respectively, and derive their solutions when the matrix equations have the Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -reflexive solution (resp. Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -anti-reflexive solution). Finally, two examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of our method.

This uniqueness is essential for solving a number of characterization problems in mathematical statistics. An algorithm for estimating the components is presented for when data are given in a symmetrized form.

The article presents an approach to storing and processing the results of industrial, laboratory, and computational experiments based on databases. The approach is presented on the example of the process of copolymerization of butadiene with styrene, which proceeds continuously in a cascade of series-connected ideal mixing reactors. A conceptual and logical database model of the industrial process under study has been created. The constructed structure can be adapted for other copolymerization processes, depending on the type of process, its formulation, and the process flow conditions. The presented physical model is implemented as a database and has been tested in the Microsoft SQL Server environment.
