Supervised learning has been widely used for attack categorization, requiring high-quality data and labels. However, the data is often imbalanced and it is difficult to obtain sufficient annotations. Moreover, supervised models are subject to real-world deployment issues, such as defending against unseen artificial attacks. To tackle the challenges, we propose a semi-supervised fine-grained attack categorization framework consisting of an encoder and a two-branch structure and this framework can be generalized to different supervised models. The multilayer perceptron with residual connection is used as the encoder to extract features and reduce the complexity. The Recurrent Prototype Module (RPM) is proposed to train the encoder effectively in a semi-supervised manner. To alleviate the data imbalance problem, we introduce the Weight-Task Consistency (WTC) into the iterative process of RPM by assigning larger weights to classes with fewer samples in the loss function. In addition, to cope with new attacks in real-world deployment, we propose an Active Adaption Resampling (AAR) method, which can better discover the distribution of unseen sample data and adapt the parameters of encoder. Experimental results show that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art semi-supervised attack detection methods with a 3% improvement in classification accuracy and a 90% reduction in training time. This study scrutinizes the characteristics of activation energy on Darcy Forchheimer radiative flow of dusty Ellis trihybrid nanofluid over a Riga plate when dust and nanoparticles are present. The goal of the present work is to use the Hamilton-Crosser thermal conductivity model to scrutinize the heat transmission for the Darcy Forchheimer flow of dusty Ellis trihybrid nanofluid. The flow is impacted by heat source with the properties of Marangoni convection. The base fluid, propylene glycol (C3H8O2), is mixed with Ag, TiO2 and Al2O3 nanoparticles. The model is applicable to sophisticated heat transfer systems, including solar energy harvesting and electronic device cooling technologies. Additionally, it finds application in thermal management of industrial processes using nanofluids and aerospace engineering. Using the shooting technique, the numerical results of the governing equations are obtained (RKF-45th). The impacts on dimensionless physical quantities of interest of geometrical and physical properties relevant to this study are analysed using the required tables and figures. The results demonstrated that the Ellis fluid parameter raised the heat transmission, mass transmission rate, and velocity profiles. As the chemical reaction parameter upsurges, the concentration distributions decrease. © 2025 The Author(s)

Parallel algorithms for tensor train arithmetic

We present efficient and scalable parallel algorithms for performing mathematical operations for low-rank tensors represented in the tensor train (TT) format. We consider algorithms for addition, elementwise multiplication, computing norms and inner products, orthonormalization, and rounding (rank truncation). These are the kernel operations for applications such as iterative Krylov solvers that exploit the TT structure. The parallel algorithms are designed for distributed- memory computation, and we propose a data distribution and strategy that parallelizes computations for individual cores within the TT format. We analyze the computation and communication costs of the proposed algorithms to show their scalability, and we present numerical experiments that demonstrate their efficiency on both shared-memory and distributed-memory parallel systems. For example, we observe better single-core performance than the existing MATLAB TT-Toolbox in rounding a 2GB TT tensor, and our implementation achieves a 34× speedup using all 40 cores of a single node. We also show nearly linear parallel scaling on larger TT tensors up to over 10,000 cores for all mathematical operations. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

5G communication systems provide an end-to-end wireless connection to billions of users and devices across the globe. The quality of signals received during radio communication is notably influenced by the behavior of the radio propagation channel. A major parameter used in characterizing this channel is the Path Loss Exponent (PLE). Several works that have estimated and analyzed the PLE mostly considered the effect of distance and carrier frequency. However, the effect of base station antenna height and channel bandwidth on the PLE for 5G networks have not been adequately considered. To address this, the impact of antenna height of base station and channel bandwidth on the PLE within the 5G Frequency Range 1 (FR1) frequencies was investigated in this study, specifically at 800, 3500, and 5900 MHz. The licensed EDX Signal Pro software® with Cirrus high resolution global terrain and clutter data base was utilized to model, simulate and analyze the PLE for Kano City, Nigeria. Results showed that for the tested frequencies, an increase in either base station height or channel bandwidth leads to a significant reduction in the PLE. This study can be utilized by network planning engineers and the wireless research community to further improve network implementation and optimization toward understanding the behavior of signal propagation in 5G networks and beyond.

ESCAPED: Efficient secure and private dot product framework for kernel-based machine learning algorithms with applications in healthcare

To train sophisticated machine learning models one usually needs many training samples. Especially in healthcare settings these samples can be very expensive, meaning that one institution alone usually does not have enough on its own. Merging privacy-sensitive data from different sources is usually restricted by data security and data protection measures. This can lead to approaches that reduce data quality by putting noise onto the variables (e.g., in ϵ differential privacy) or omitting certain values (e.g., for k-anonymity). Other measures based on cryptographic methods can lead to very time-consuming computations, which is especially problematic for larger multi-omics data. We address this problem by introducing ESCAPED, which stands for Efficient SeCure And PrivatE Dot product framework, enabling the computation of the dot product of vectors from multiple sources on a third-party, which later trains kernel-based machine learning algorithms, while neither sacrificing privacy nor adding noise. We evaluated our framework on drug resistance prediction for HIV-infected people and multi-omics dimensionality reduction and clustering problems in precision medicine. In terms of execution time, our framework significantly outperforms the best-fitting existing approaches without sacrificing the performance of the algorithm. Even though we only show the benefit for kernel-based algorithms, our framework can open up new research opportunities for further machine learning models that require the dot product of vectors from multiple sources. © 2020, CC BY.

Any sports competition needs a timetable, specifying when and where teams meet each other. The recent International Timetabling Competition (ITC2021) on sports timetabling showed that, although it is possible to develop general algorithms, the performance of each algorithm varies considerably over the problem instances. This paper provides a problem type analysis for sports timetabling, resulting in powerful insights into the strengths and weaknesses of eight state-of-the-art algorithms. Based on machine learning techniques, we propose an algorithm selection system that predicts which algorithm is likely to perform best based on the type of competition and constraints being used (i.e., the problem type) in a given sports timetabling problem instance. Furthermore, we visualize how the problem type relates to algorithm performance, providing insights and possibilities to further enhance several algorithms. Finally, we assess the empirical hardness of the instances. Generally, people behave in social dilemmas such as proself and prosocial. However, inside social groups, people have a tendency to choose prosocial alternatives due to in-group favoritism. The bioelectrical activity of the human brain shows the differences between proself and prosocial exist even out of a socialized group. Moreover, a group socialization strengthens these differences. We used EEG System, "Neuron-Spectrum-4/EPM" (16 channels), to track the brain bioelectrical activity during decision making in laboratory experiments with the Prisoner's dilemma game and the short-term socialization stage. We compared the spatial distribution of the spectral density during the different experimental parts. The noncooperative decision was characterized by the increased values of spectral the beta rhythm in the orbital regions of prefrontal cortex. The cooperative choice, on the contrary, was accompanied by the theta-rhythm activation in the central cortex regions in both hemispheres and the high-frequency alpha rhythm in the medial regions of the prefrontal cortex. People who increased the cooperation level after the socialization stage was initially different from the ones who decreased the cooperation in terms of the bioelectrical activity. Well-socialized participants differed by increased values of spectral density of theta-diapason and decreased values of spectral density of beta-diapason in the middle part of frontal lobe. People who decreased the cooperation level after the socialization stage was characterized by decreased values of spectral density of alpha rhythm in the middle and posterior convex regions of both hemispheres. Reweighting of binaural localization cues induced by lateralization training

Normal-hearing listeners adapt to alterations in sound localization cues. This adaptation can result from the establishment of a new spatial map of the altered cues or from a stronger relative weighting of unaltered compared to altered cues. Such reweighting has been shown for monaural vs. binaural cues. However, studies attempting to reweight the two binaural cues, interaural differences in time and level, yielded inconclusive results. In this study we investigated whether binaural cue reweighting can be induced by a lateralization training in a virtual audio-visual environment. 20 normal-hearing participants, divided into two groups, completed the experiment consisting of a seven-day lateralization training in a virtual audio-visual environment, preceded and followed by a test measuring the binaural cue weights. During testing, the participants’ task was to lateralize 500-ms bandpass-filtered (2-4 kHz) noise bursts containing various combinations of spatially consistent and inconsistent ITDs and ILDs. During training, the task was extended by visual cues reinforcing ITDs in one group and ILDs in the other group as well as manipulating the azimuthal ranges of the two cues. In both groups, the weight given to the reinforced cue increased significantly from pre- to posttest, suggesting that participants reweighted the binaural cues in the expected direction. This reweighting occurred predominantly within the first training session. The present results are relevant as binaural cue reweighting is, for example, likely to occur when normal-hearing listeners adapt to new acoustic environments. Similarly, binaural cue reweighting might be a factor underlying the low contribution of ITDs to sound localization of cochlear-implant listeners as they typically do not experience reliable ITD cues with their clinical devices. Satellite radar interferometry (InSAR) enables large-scale monitoring of displacement with precision akin to ground-based methods. Using measurements from Sentinel-1 satellites, persistent scatterer networks cover areas up to hundreds of kilometers in size. One of the current challenges for the InSAR community is to tie these networks into a current and country-specific global terrestrial reference system through collocation with other geodetic techniques, especially Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). In this work, an optimal procedure for assessing a suitable collocation properties for InSAR and GNSS techniques is discussed, along with the proposal for the methodology to determine the spatial relationship between the reference points of both techniques. The study analyzes three collocation stations in Slovakia using their radar backscattering characteristics. InSAR achieves an intrinsic accuracy of up to 1 mm but has uncertainties several orders of magnitude larger in 3D space. A collocation of InSAR measurements with GNSS can tie relative InSAR displacement estimates to an absolute reference frame.

An approach for realistically simulating the performance of scientific applications on high performance computing systems

Scientific applications often contain large, computationally-intensive, and irregular parallel loops or tasks that exhibit stochastic characteristics. Applications may suffer from load imbalance during their execution on high-performance computing (HPC) systems due to such characteristics. Dynamic loop self-scheduling (DLS) techniques are instrumental in improving the performance of scientific applications on HPC systems via load balancing. Selecting a DLS technique that results in the best performance for different problems and system sizes requires a large number of exploratory experiments. A theoretical model that can be used to predict the scheduling technique that yields the best performance for a given problem and system has not yet been identified. Therefore, simulation is the most appropriate approach for conducting such exploratory experiments with reasonable costs. This work devises an approach to realistically simulate computationally-intensive scientific applications that employ DLS and execute on HPC systems. Several approaches to represent the application tasks (or loop iterations) are compared to establish their influence on the simulative application performance. A novel simulation strategy is introduced, which transforms a native application code into a simulative code. The native and simulative performance of two computationally-intensive scientific applications are compared to evaluate the realism of the proposed simulation approach. The comparison of the performance characteristics extracted from the native and simulative performance shows that the proposed simulation approach fully captured most of the performance characteristics of interest. This work shows and establishes the importance of simulations that realistically predict the performance of DLS techniques for different applications and system configurations.
