In this paper we present the case study on application of data mining techniques like clustering, regression and scoring with heuristic measures for the largest social event prognosis based on spatiotemporal data. The aim of this analysis is to propose the methodology that bases on archival records and is capable to predict the place where the largest social event will take place and who will be a host (organizer) of it. For this goal we utilize the part of geocaching community data. The dataset we used is consisted of 755 events that happened from 2010-01-30 to 2015-09-05 in Poland organized by 282 distinct users. Basing on archival data of past four years we were capable to indicate not only the region in which the biggest event took place but also its host and its place within range of 700 meters. Our new algorithm and its application to geocaching events data is main novelty of this paper.

Introduction Physical activity (PA) is one of the most important lifestyle behaviors to reduce the risk for non-communicable diseases. Positive effects of the urban environment on PA in terms of walkability measures such as street connectivity, land use mix, and availability of public open spaces in the urban neighborhood are well investigated. However, evidence of this association is mostly based on cross-sectional studies. Usually, discrete measures of urban point characteristics such as the simple intensity are calculated based on arbitrary municipal districts inducing scaling bias. The present study aims to longitudinally investigate the effect of built environment characteristics on PA of children in their transition phase to adolescence. We considered a kernel intensity approach to assess built environment characteristics and linked urban measures with objectively measured PA data that were collected in the IDEFICS/*** cohort. methods Spatial data were collected in six study regions of three countries, Germany, Italy, and Sweden, participating in the IDEFICS/*** cohort. We considered walkability measures such as population density, land use mix (LUM), street connectivity, and availability of public transit. We additionally assessed the availability of public open spaces (POS). Point characteristics, e.g. intersections or POS, were assessed via adaptive anisotropic kernel functions. Urban measures were calculated in network-dependent home neighborhoods using a network distance of 1 km. We used standardized z-scores of urban measures to construct a moveability index that quantifies urban opportunities for PA of children and adolescents. The Jagiellonian Positron Emission Tomograph (J-PET) is a detector for medical imaging of the whole human body as well as for physics studies involving detection of electron-positron annihilation into photons. J-PET has high angular and time resolution, and allows for measurement of spin of the positronium and the momenta and polarization vectors of annihilation quanta. In this article, we present the potential of the J-PET system for the background rejection in the decays of positronium atoms.

The International Multimorbidity Symposium was held in November 2019 at Western University to achieve three main objectives: to discuss progress and findings from various jurisdictions; to facilitate collaboration through group discussion to identify strategies to move multimorbidity research forward; and to create concrete plans to ensure advances in multimorbidity research and knowledge can be achieved through cross-national partnership. This event included keynote presentations, elevator pitch presentations and breakout sessions and there was a total of 35 attendees from eight countries, representing diverse disciplines and training levels. The overall themes arising from the event were: the importance of integrating the study and management of multimorbidity from both the primary care and public health perspectives; meaningful engagement and collaboration with patients and caregivers to understand key dimensions of multimorbidity; the considerable benefit of collaborative international partnerships; and the need to spread and scale innovations for health care systems that can better respond to the complex needs of patients and caregivers who are living with multimorbidity. Finally, it was well-acknowledged among the attendees that expanding the collaboration and discussion among international colleagues via in-person and virtual events will be important to move multimorbidity research forward.

From ancient philosophers to modern economists, biologists, and other researchers, there has been a continuous effort to unveil causal relations. The most formidable challenge lies in deducing the nature of the causal relationship: whether it is unidirectional, bidirectional, or merely apparent — implied by an unobserved common cause. While modern technology equips us with tools to collect data from intricate systems such as the planet’s ecosystem or the human brain, comprehending their functioning requires the identification and differentiation of causal relationships among the components, all without external interventions. In this context, we introduce a novel method capable of distinguishing and assigning probabilities to the presence of all potential causal relations between two or more time series within dynamical systems. The efficacy of this method is verified using synthetic datasets and applied to EEG (electroencephalographic) data recorded from epileptic patients. In this article it is presented an FPGA based Multi-Voltage Threshold (MVT) system which allows of sampling fast signals (1 − 2 ns rising and falling edge) in both voltage and time domain. It is possible to achieve a precision of time measurement of 20 ps RMS and reconstruct charge of signals, using a simple approach, with deviation from real value smaller than 10%. Utilization of the differential inputs of an FPGA chip as comparators together with an implementation of a TDC inside an FPGA allowed us to achieve a compact multi-channel system characterized by low power consumption and low production costs. This paper describes realization and functioning of the system comprising 192-channel TDC board and a four mezzanine cards which split incoming signals and discriminate them. The boards have been used to validate a newly developed Time-of-Flight Positron Emission Tomography system based on plastic scintillators. The achieved full system time resolution of σ(TOF) ≈ 68 ps is by factor of two better with respect to the current TOF-PET systems. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Applications based on groups of self-organized mobile robots and - more generically - agents are becoming pervasive in communication, monitoring, traffic and transportation systems. Their advantage is the possibility of providing services without the existence of a previously defined infrastructure and with a high degree of autonomy. On the other hand, physical agents, in general, are prone to failures, adding uncertainty and unpredictability in the environments in which they operate. Therefore, a robust topology regarding failures is an imperative requirement. In this paper, we show that mechanisms based solely on connectivity maintenance are not enough to obtain a sufficiently resilient network, and a robustness-oriented approach is necessary. Thus, we propose a local combined control law that aims at maintaining the overall network connectivity while improving the network robustness via actions that reduce vulnerability to failures that might lead to network disconnection. The combined control law performance was validated from two perspectives: as a reactive and as a proactive mechanism. As a reactive mechanism, it was able to accommodate ongoing failures and postpone or avoid network fragmentation. As a proactive mechanism, the network topology was able to evolve from a potentially vulnerable topology w.r.t. failures to a more robust one.

BACKGROUND:Exposure to cold or hot temperatures is associated with premature deaths. We aimed to evaluate the global, regional, and national mortality burden associated with non-optimal ambient temperatures. methods:In this modelling study, we collected time-series data on mortality and ambient temperatures from 750 locations in 43 countries and five meta-predictors at a grid size of 0·5° × 0·5° across the globe. A three-stage analysis strategy was used. First, the temperature-mortality association was fitted for each location by use of a time-series regression. Second, a multivariate meta-regression model was built between location-specific estimates and meta-predictors. Finally, the grid-specific temperature-mortality association between 2000 and 2019 was predicted by use of the fitted meta-regression and the grid-specific meta-predictors. Excess deaths due to non-optimal temperatures, the ratio between annual excess deaths and all deaths of a year (the excess death ratio), and the death rate per 100 000 residents were then calculated for each grid across the world. Grids were divided according to regional groupings of the UN Statistics Division. FINDINGS:Globally, 5 083 173 deaths (95% empirical CI [eCI] 4 087 967-5 965 520) were associated with non-optimal temperatures per year, accounting for 9·43% (95% eCI 7·58-11·07) of all deaths (8·52% [6·19-10·47] were cold-related and 0·91% [0·56-1·36] were heat-related). There were 74 temperature-related excess deaths per 100 000 residents (95% eCI 60-87). The mortality burden varied geographically. Of all excess deaths, 2 617 322 (51·49%) occurred in Asia. Eastern Europe had the highest heat-related excess death rate and Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest cold-related excess death rate. From 2000-03 to 2016-19, the global cold-related excess death ratio changed by -0·51 percentage points (95% eCI -0·61 to -0·42) and the global heat-related excess death ratio increased by 0·21 percentage points (0·13-0·31), leading to a

We present a coupled simulation approach for fluid–structure–acoustic interactions (FSAI) as an example for strongly surface coupled multi-physics problems. In addition to the multi-physics character, FSAI feature multi-scale properties as a further challenge. In our partitioned approach, the problem is split into spatially separated subdomains interacting via coupling surfaces. Within each subdomain, scalable, single-physics solvers are used to solve the respective equation systems. The surface coupling between them is realized with the scalable open-source coupling tool preCICE described in the "Partitioned Fluid–Structure– Acoustics Interaction on Distributed Data: Coupling via preCICE". We show how this approach enables the use of existing solvers and present the overall scaling behavior for a three-dimensional test case with a bending tower generating acoustic *** run this simulation with different solvers demonstrating the performance of various solvers and the flexibility of the partitioned approach with the coupling tool preCICE. An efficient and scalable in-situ visualization reducing the amount of data in place at the simulation processors before sending them over the network or to a file system completes the simulation environment. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.
