RaSA: Robust and Adaptive Secure Aggregation for Edge-Assisted Hierarchical Federated Learning

Secure Aggregation (SA), in the Federated Learning (FL) setting, enables distributed clients to collaboratively learn a shared global model while keeping their raw data and local gradients private. However, when SA is implemented in edge-intelligence-driven FL, the open and heterogeneous environments will hinder model aggregation, slow down model convergence speed, and decrease model generalization ability. To address these issues, we present a Robust and adaptive Secure Aggregation (RaSA) protocol to guarantee robustness and privacy in the presence of non-IID data, heterogeneous system, and malicious edge servers. Specifically, we first design an adaptive weights updating strategy to address the non-IID data issue by considering the impact of both gradient similarity and gradient diversity on the model aggregation. Meanwhile, we enhance privacy protection by preventing privacy leakage from both gradients and aggregation weights. Different from previous work, we address system heterogeneity in the case of malicious attacks, and the malicious behavior from edge servers can be detected by the proposed verifiable approach. Moreover, we eliminate the influence of straggling communication links and dropouts on the model convergence by combining efficient product-coded computing with repetition-based secret sharing. Finally, we perform a theoretical analysis that proves the security of RaSA. Extensive experimental results show that RaSA can ensure model convergence without affecting the generalization ability under non-IID scenarios. Moreover, the decoding efficiency of RaSA achieves 1.33x and 6.4x faster than the state-of-the-art product-coded and one-dimensional coded computing schemes. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Autonomous embodied navigation task generation from natural language dialogues

Robots are increasingly being deployed in densely populated environments, such as homes, hotels, and office buildings, where they rely on explicit instructions from humans to perform tasks. However, complex tasks often require multiple instructions and prolonged monitoring, which can be time-consuming and demanding for users. Despite this, there is limited research on enabling robots to autonomously generate tasks based on real-life scenarios. Advanced intelligence necessitates robots to autonomously observe and analyze their environment and then generate tasks autonomously to fulfill human requirements without explicit commands. To address this gap, we propose the autonomous generation of navigation tasks using natural language dialogues. Specifically, a robot autonomously generates tasks by analyzing dialogues involving multiple persons in a real office environment to facilitate the completion of item transportation between various *** propose the leveraging of a large language model(LLM) through chain-of-thought prompting to generate a navigation sequence for a robot from dialogues. We also construct a benchmark dataset consisting of 625 multiperson dialogues using the generation capability of LLMs. Evaluation results and real-world experiments in an office building demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Background: Cloud services have become a popular approach for offering efficient services for a wide range of activities. Predicting hardware failures in a cloud data center can minimize downtime and make the system more reliable and fault-tolerant. Objective: This research aims to analyze a predictive hardware failure model based on machine learning that anticipates the required remediations for undiagnosed failures in a cloud computing system serving multiclass requests. Methods: The model is tested on a carefully designed cloud data center that categorizes incoming requests as web, compute, storage, and dedicated server requests. To demonstrate improved reliability, a carefully designed test case is run on ReliaCloud-NS, which is a simulator for creating a CCS and computing its reliability. Results: The work found that using this model considerably enhanced the reliability of cloud computing systems when compared to not using the model. Conclusion: Although various estimation methods are patented to evaluate the system reliability of a cloud computing network, the emphasis of this study was mostly on improving the reliability of request-segregated clouds upon failing hardware resources like CPU, memory, bandwidth, and hard disc. Moreover, the prediction model might potentially be expanded to other system resources such as GPUs, software, and database packages. © 2025 Bentham science Publishers.

Optimizing therapy and rehabilitation for Parkinson's disease (PD) requires early identification and precise evaluation of the illness's course. However, there is disagreement about the best way to use gait analysis to categorize the severity of motor symptoms and identify early-stage Parkinson's disease. The precision of machine learning (ML) models in identifying early and intermediate stages of Parkinson's disease was assessed in this study. Six ML models are used in this study for the prediction of PD. Different metrics are used to evaluate ML models such as accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, and AUC score. Then we propose a multi-criteria decision-making methodology (MCDM) to evaluate the ML models and select the best one. Two MCDM methods are used such as CRITIC method to compute the criteria weights and the TOPSIS method to rank the alternatives. These methods are used under the bipolar neutrosophic sets (BNSs) to deal with uncertainty information. The results show the support vector machine is the best ML model for the prediction of PD. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

Cataract surgery, a widely performed operation worldwide, is incorporating semantic segmentation to advance computer-assisted intervention. However, the tissue appearance and illumination in cataract surgery often differ among clinical centers, intensifying the issue of domain shifts. While domain adaptation offers remedies to the shifts, the necessity for data centralization raises additional privacy concerns. To overcome these challenges, we propose a Multi-view Test-time Adaptation algorithm (MUTA) to segment cataract surgical scenes, which leverages multi-view learning to enhance model training within the source domain and model adaptation within the target domain. In the training phase, the segmentation model is equipped with multi-view decoders to boost its robustness against variations in cataract surgery. During the inference phase, test-time adaptation is implemented using multi-view knowledge distillation, enabling model updates in clinics without data centralization or privacy concerns. We conducted experiments in a simulated cross-center scenario using several cataract surgery datasets to evaluate the effectiveness of MUTA. Through comparisons and investigations, we have validated that MUTA effectively learns a robust source model and adapts the model to target data during the practical inference phase. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

This paper delves into the correlation between attention span and mental health. Attention span is the ability to focus on a task before being distracted by certain factors. It ranges from 2 seconds to more than 20 minutes. Meanwhile, mental health constitutes a person's psychological, sociological, and emotional well-being. Ultra-low power MoS2 optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity for color target recognition

Optoelectronic synapses that integrate visual perception and pre-processing hold significant potential for neuromorphic vision systems（NVSs）. However, due to a lack of wavelength sensitivity, existing NVS mainly focuses on gray-scale image processing, making it challenging to recognize color images. Additionally, the high power consumption of optoelectronic synapses, compared to the 10 fJ energy consumption of biological synapses, limits their broader application. To address these challenges, an energy-efficient NVS capable of color target recognition in a noisy environment was developed,utilizing a MoS2optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity. Benefiting from the distinct photon capture capabilities of 450, 535, and 650 nm light, the optoelectronic synapse exhibits wavelength-dependent synaptic plasticity, including excitatory postsynaptic current（EPSC）, paired-pulse facilitation（PPF）, and long-term plasticity（LTP）. These properties can effectively mimic the visual memory and color discrimination functions of the human vision system. Results demonstrate that the NVS, based on MoS2optoelectronic synapses, can eliminate the color noise at the sensor level, increasing color image recognition accuracy from 50% to 90%. Importantly, the optoelectronic synapse operates at a low voltage spike of0.0005 V, consuming only 0.075 fJ per spike, surpassing the energy efficiency of both existing optoelectronic and biological synapses. This ultra-low power, color-sensitive device eliminates the need for color filters and offers great promise for future deployment in filter-free NVS.

Research on the closed-loop supply chain of intelligent products considering government subsidies in the context of the internet of things

The rapid development of Internet of Things technology and the continuous improvement of consumer demand have spawned the emergence of intelligent products based on Internet of Things technology. The existing research on the closed-loop supply chain of intelligent products under the background of the Internet of Things still lacks consideration of different subsidy objects and recyclers. Therefore, for different subsidy objects in the three-stage closed-loop supply chain of intelligent products, a pricing decision model involving manufacturers, recyclers, retailers and consumers under the minimum standard supervision of recycling technology is constructed, and different recyclers are distinguished according to the characteristics of intelligent products. By comparing the profits of each subject in different models, the optimal model of government subsidy is obtained. It is found that under the four modes, subsidizing recyclers without self-recovery technology makes the total profit of the supply chain reach the optimal solution;capital recyclers can obtain the largest number of old intelligent product recycling by using self-recovery technology;when subsidizing manufacturers, the total profit and product recovery rate of the supply chain are at the bottom. In addition, recycling subsidies, subsidy impact coefficients and technical standards will affect the best profits of enterprises. Through the analysis of the closed-loop supply chain of intelligent products, the research provides theoretical support and decision-making basis for the supply chain members to formulate relevant strategies and the government to take relevant measures to promote resource utilization and environmental protection. © The Author(s) 2025.

An LLM-powered Government Scheme Advisor functions as a multilingual chatbot offering intelligent guidance on government agricultural schemes and subsidies. The Disease Detection module utilizes AI technology for real-time identification and treatment recommendations, minimizing crop diseases and yield losses. The Soil Testing Centre feature locates nearby soil testing centers, providing essential information based on geographical data to assist farmers in optimizing soil quality. A Crop Recommendation feature employs Machine Learning algorithms to offer personalized crop recommendations, considering various factors and aiding informed decision-making. The Crop Planning Tool, with its intuitive user interface, simplifies planning planting schedules and managing resources. Additionally, the platform includes an MSP Center Locator to find nearby Minimum Support Price (MSP) centers based on location. By integrating these innovative solutions, this platform bridges the gap between conventional agricultural techniques and contemporary technology, equipping farmers with the resources and expertise essential for advancing productivity and sustainability. Multi-Expert Adaptive Selection: Task-Balancing for All-in-One Image Restoration

The use of a single image restoration framework to achieve multi-task image restoration has garnered significant attention from researchers. However, several practical challenges remain, including meeting the specific and simultaneous demands of different tasks, balancing relationships between tasks, and effectively utilizing task correlations in model design. To address these challenges, this paper explores a multi-expert adaptive selection mechanism. We begin by designing a feature representation method that accounts for both the pixel channel level and the global level, encompassing low-frequency and high-frequency components of the image. Based on this method, we construct a multi-expert selection and ensemble scheme. This scheme adaptively selects the most suitable expert from the expert library according to the content of the input image and the prompts of the current task. It not only meets the individualized needs of different tasks but also achieves balance and optimization across tasks. By sharing experts, our design promotes interconnections between different tasks, thereby enhancing overall performance and resource utilization. Additionally, the multi-expert mechanism effectively eliminates irrelevant experts, reducing interference from them and further improving the effectiveness and accuracy of image restoration. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method is both effective and superior to existing approaches, highlighting its potential for practical applications in multi-task image restoration. © 1991-2012 IEEE.
