People’s demand for vehicles has been increasing day by day over the last few decades. A survey tells us that over 50,000 vehicles run on the roads per day. Such a large number of vehicles causes traffic. A survey tells us that over 1200 road crashes occur everyday in India out of which 25% result in deaths. Most of these accidents occur due to a lack of communication between the vehicles. This has led to the attraction of researchers towards the Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) ensuring road safety by establishing an Intelligent Transportation System (Malhi in Comput Secur 89:101664, 2020). In VANET, due to the frequent movement of vehicles and rapid variations in topology, the communication link between vehicles may break. This paper analyzes these problems and comes up with a novel approach to overcome these and maintain the performance of the protocol. In order to assess the performance metrics for the proposed protocol, an analytical model has been created. Simulations have been carried out to validate it and have been compared against similar state of comparative methods. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2025.

In serverless computing, the service provider takes full responsibility for function management. However, serverless computing has many challenges regarding data security and function scheduling. To address these challenges, we have proposed a system to secure the data of an end-user. We also aim to meet the quality of service (QoS) for the end-user requests. This work presents a Simulated Annealing-based optimization algorithm for function placement. Also, we have Hyperledger Fabric, a blockchain framework in the system architecture for securing the data of an end-user. We have conducted experiments in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) taking virtual machine instances. The experiments in Amazon EC2 indicate that the proposed system secures the data and enhances the end-user's QoS. © 2025 IEEE.

Handwritten character segmentation plays a pivotal role in the performance of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems. This paper introduces an innovative approach to enhancing segmentation accuracy using Region-Based Convolutional Neural Networks (R-CNN). Traditional methods often struggle with issues such as varying character sizes, overlapping, and inconsistent writing styles, leading to suboptimal recognition results. The proposed R-CNN model addresses these challenges by effectively localizing and segmenting individual characters from handwritten text images. The methodology involves training the R-CNN on a comprehensive dataset of handwritten characters, annotated to capture diverse styles and complexities. The model leverages deep learning's feature extraction capabilities and region-based localization to accurately segment characters, even in challenging scenarios like connected or touching characters. Comparative experiments show that the proposed approach outperforms conventional techniques in terms of segmentation accuracy and robustness. Results demonstrate significant improvements, with the R-CNN model achieving higher precision and recall rates across multiple handwritten datasets, including different languages and scripts. This advancement holds promise for enhancing OCR systems used in applications such as automated document processing and digital archiving. Future work will focus on integrating this segmentation method with advanced recognition models to further boost overall handwritten text recognition performance. © 2025 IEEE.

Traffic sign recognition is an integral part of driver assistance systems play a crucial role in enhancing road safety. Due to a large number of challenging targets, such as occlusion, distortion, and small targets in actual scenes, existing methods still have bottlenecks in the accuracy of detection and recognition. Therefore, this paper proposes a real-time traffic sign recognition model based on scale sequence features (SSFs) and high-order spatial interactions (HOSIs) on the basis of YOLOv5. This model extracted scale-invariant SSF using a high-dimensional convolution on the underlying feature map to improve the detection effect of multi-scale targets. At the same time, recursive gated convolution modules are integrated into the feature pyramid network, expanding the interactions to arbitrary order and providing richer feature information for high-order convolutions. In addition, a cross-stage partial (CSP) structure is incorporated into the spatial pooling pyramid, which improves the structure’s performance without introducing excessive computational complexity. The experimental results show that the proposed model achieves 95.5% and 99.92% of mAP on Tsinghua–Tencent 100K (TT100K) and German Traffic Sign Recognition Benchmark (GTSRB), respectively, which surpass the performance of the most advanced model and meets the requirements of real-time detection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Researchers have recently achieved significant advances in deep learning techniques, which in turn has substantially advanced other research disciplines, such as natural language processing, image processing, speech recognition, and software engineering. Various deep learning techniques have been successfully employed to facilitate software engineering tasks, including code generation, software refactoring, and fault localization. Many studies have also been presented in top conferences and journals, demonstrating the applications of deep learning techniques in resolving various software engineering tasks. However,although several surveys have provided overall pictures of the application of deep learning techniques in software engineering,they focus more on learning techniques, that is, what kind of deep learning techniques are employed and how deep models are trained or fine-tuned for software engineering tasks. We still lack surveys explaining the advances of subareas in software engineering driven by deep learning techniques, as well as challenges and opportunities in each subarea. To this end, in this study, we present the first task-oriented survey on deep learning-based software engineering. It covers twelve major software engineering subareas significantly impacted by deep learning techniques. Such subareas spread out through the whole lifecycle of software development and maintenance, including requirements engineering, software development, testing, maintenance, and developer collaboration. As we believe that deep learning may provide an opportunity to revolutionize the whole discipline of software engineering, providing one survey covering as many subareas as possible in software engineering can help future research push forward the frontier of deep learning-based software engineering more systematically. Leukemia, a malignant disease characterized by the rapid proliferation of specific types of white blood cells (WBC), has prompted increased interest in leveraging automatic WBC classification system. This study presents the design of a robust WBC classification system, integrating deep learning with microscopic image analysis. The proposed classification model is designed to categorize blood cells into four distinct groups: eosinophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and neutrophil. The study employs a Kaggle image dataset for comprehensive learning. The dataset comprises 12,500 microscopic images used to categorize the four blood cell groups. To enhance performance and reduce the likelihood of overfitting, transfer learning techniques are employed. Six deep transfer learning models namely VGG16, ResNet50, AlexNet, MobileNet, GoogLeNet, and EfficientNetBO are used for feature extraction and classification. The results of the experiments show that VGG16 and MobileNet demonstrated enhancements compared to other pre-trained models when evaluated on both augmented and original datasets. A diverse set of evaluation criteria was employed to thoroughly assess the effectiveness of medical image classification. Notably, the VGG16 and MobileNet models accurately predicted Lymphocytes and Monocytes with a 100% accuracy rate, and Eosinophil and Neutrophil with rates of 99.35% and 99.81%, respectively. This research work empower medical practitioners, particularly in the field of pathology and hematology by providing advanced tools for accurate blood cell classification. The proposed VGG16 and MobileNet models hold promise for simplifying WBC classification, improving decision-making processes, and ultimately advancing patient care in the medical domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Glaucoma is currently one of the most significant causes of permanent blindness. Fundus imaging is the most popular glaucoma screening method because of the compromises it has to make in terms of portability, size, and cost. In recent years, convolution neural networks (CNNs) have revolutionized computer vision. Convolution is a "local" CNN technique that is only applicable to a small region surrounding an image. Vision Transformers (ViT) use self-attention, which is a "global" activity since it collects information from the entire image. As a result, the ViT can successfully gather distant semantic relevance from an image. This study examined several optimizers, including Adamax, SGD, RMSprop, Adadelta, Adafactor, Nadam, and Adagrad. With 1750 Healthy and Glaucoma images in the IEEE fundus image dataset and 4800 healthy and glaucoma images in the LAG fundus image dataset, we trained and tested the ViT model on these datasets. Additionally, the datasets underwent image scaling, auto-rotation, and auto-contrast adjustment via adaptive equalization during preprocessing. The results demonstrated that preparing the provided dataset with various optimizers improved accuracy and other performance metrics. Additionally, according to the results, the Nadam Optimizer improved accuracy in the adaptive equalized preprocessing of the IEEE dataset by up to 97.8% and in the adaptive equalized preprocessing of the LAG dataset by up to 92%, both of which were followed by auto rotation and image resizing processes. In addition to integrating our vision transformer model with the shift tokenization model, we also combined ViT with a hybrid model that consisted of six different models, including SVM, Gaussian NB, Bernoulli NB, Decision Tree, KNN, and Random Forest, based on which optimizer was the most successful for each dataset. Empirical results show that the SVM Model worked well and improved accuracy by up to 93% with precision of up to 94% in the adaptive equalization preprocess

A Review on Lung Cancer Classification Using Deep Learning Techniques

Cancer of the lung system is arguably the second largest factor in the worldwide fatality explosion. It originates from smoking too much and tobacco use. Cell growth that is uncontrolled in the lung region will hurt human survival. The exponential increase in medical reports might challenge the manual interpretation of disease prediction. Therefore, using computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) approaches, a tumor might be detected early from an appropriate appearance. This study thoroughly evaluates various lung cancer detection methods for classifying a nodule. The area of lung cancer prediction is becoming increasingly popular due to the many benefits of automated medical diagnosis using Deep Learning techniques. This study discusses potential deep learning (DL) strategies for lung disease applications, an overview of DL approaches, and novel elements of the methods under investigation. Classification and segmentation are the two main deep learning techniques for lung cancer detection and screening which are the focus of this review. We will also talk about the benefits and drawbacks of contemporary deep learning models. The resulting study demonstrates the significant potential of deep learning approaches for exact and efficient computerized lung cancer monitoring and detection employing CT scans. Following this study, an overview of prospective further studies is given, focused on enhancing deep learning to advance automated techniques for diagnosing lung cancer. © 2013 IEEE.
