In this paper, we present the experimental results and evaluation of the SmartBox stimulation device in P2P e-learning system which is based on JXTA-Overlay. We also show the design and implementation of the SmartBox environment that is used for stimulating the learners motivation to increase the learning efficiency. The SmartBox is integrated with our P2P system as a useful tool for monitoring and controlling learners' activity. We found by experimental results that the SmartBox is an effective way to increase the learner's concentration. We also investigated the relation between learner's body movement, concentration, and amount of study. From the experimental results, we conclude that the use of SmartBox is an effective way to stimulate the learners in order to continue studying while maintaining the concentration.

E-health is an important support technology in healthcare with considerable aspirations, but one which bypasses the normal requirement to prove a system's effectiveness or safety. There is therefore an ethical duty to evaluate systems scientifically, and thereby also to raise the scientific standing of the health informatics discipline. To assist in the development of this science, and arising out of a European science Foundation exploratory workshop, guidelines on conducting robust evaluations have been prepared. This paper reports the results of that development work. © 2009 IADIS.

The proliferation of communication and mobile computing devices and local-area wireless networks has cultivated a growing interest in location-aware systems and services. An essential problem in location-aware computing is the determination of physical locations. RFID technologies are gaining much attention as they are attractive solutions to indoor localization applications. In this paper, we propose a new indoor locating system based on the received signal strength intensity. The proposed algorithm introduced a signal strength preprocessing step to improve the accuracy of existing techniques. We investigate optimal parameters in terms of reader and reference tag properties through computer simulations. A new configuration in placing reference tags on the perimeter of a sensing area is also introduced. Comparing with other methods, our experimental results indicate that proposed system achieved more accurate localization with fewer reference tags needed.

This report summarizes the proceedings of the one day BioSharing meeting held at the Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB) 2010 conference in Boston, MA, USA This inaugural BioSharing event was hosted by the Genomic Standards Consortium as part of its M3 & BioSharing special interest group (SIG) workshop. The BioSharing event included invited talks from a range of community leaders and a panel discussion at the end of the day. The panel session led to the formal agreement among community leaders to join together to promote cross-community knowledge exchange and collaborations. A key focus of the newly formed Biosharing community will be linking up resources to promote real-world data sharing (virtuous cycle of data) and supporting compliance with data policies through the creation of a one-stop-portal of information. Healthy population is the base of a society to function well. As we know, family plays a significant role in the development and maintenance of depression. According to the hygienic statistical data of WHO, depression is the leading cause of disability as measured by YLDs and the 4th leading contributor to the global burden of disease (DALYs) in 2000. By the year 2020, depression is projected to reach 2nd place of the ranking of DALYs calculated for all ages, both sexes. Accordingly, depression increasing the medical and nursing cost compared to other diseases. Because of limited the diversification of depression and risky concept. This study develops an online family health tree system which implements orientation systematic analytic method together with Beavers systems model. Through inputting the medical history of family members by interaction Web site design, it can real-time calculate the risk information of getting depression and transmit this information to family doctor to search assistance and carefulness plan for patients. It also helps family sentiments and improves medical information management. In addition, we use samples from teachers and students of Chung Shan medical University. Our study shows this system can screen out kinds of high risky depression patients and have good management of health risk. Finally, the relevant content is also described.

The purpose of this paper is to develop the hospital information security risk framework and to raise organizational risk sense and effective decision making. This study adopted the ISO27799 with the ten controls items for risk management. In order to make sure the feasibility of the proposed framework, we conducted a field study for a medical center to investigate the risk of identification, analyses, measurement and control, respectively. Based on the result, the proposed framework be able to elicit the real risk attitude of each stakeholder more accurate than the Riskit model. Additionally, it implicated a great diversity of human decision behavior uncertainty under risky environment. According to the review of the risk experiences, it can know the potential incident well by investigate into the risk cognition of stakeholders more in detail. Further, it not only can realize the more accurate potential risk incident by utilize the non-parameter method, but also achieve the purpose of shift risk and control losses. The proposed framework can deal with information security risk about hospital-wide by considering stakeholders' decision positions and behavior attribute, and provide decision makers the effective support for quality decision making. Finally, the implications of the research findings could use and to probing into other similar decision making issue under risk.

Conductive polymer composites fabricated by adding a certain amount of conductive fillers, such as carbon black or carbon nanotube, into a polymer substrate are commonly used as the material of the bipolar plate in fuel cells. The electrical conductivity of polymer composites is affected by the distribution and orientation of fillers and is therefore crucial to be assessed. This study is to develop methods and techniques for nondestructively measuring properties of carbon fibers in the conductive polymer composite using a high frequency ultrasound system. The experiments were carried out from samples, fabricated by an injection molding machine, composed of a 5?5 cm polycarbonate added with carbon fibers of 6 ?m diameter and 3 mm length and those of weight percentage at 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3%. The ultrasonic signals of conductive polymer composites associated with different filler concentrations were acquired from a 48 MHz high frequency ultrasound imaging system. The raster scanning images corresponding to depths at 0.15 and 0.3 mm beneath the surface of conductive polymer composites were reconstructed. The orientation of filler carbon fibers parallel or perpendicular to the surface of conductive polymer composites were calculated according to their respective percentages of pixel content in the image. Results showed that percentages of pixel contents for fillers of carbon fibers at the depth of 0.15 mm beneath the surface of sample for those 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 wt% filler carbon fibers were calculated to be 2.50?1.13, 5.19?1.70, and 5.93?1.29, respectively, and those of 0.3 mm were to be 2.91?1.46, 6.18?1.60, and 6.42?1.77, respectively. Moreover, those percentages of pixel contents for fillers of perpendicular orientation with respect to depth of 0.15 mm were 1.49?0.89, 2.49?0.96, and 3.62?0.95, respectively; those of 0.3 mm were 1.39?0.72, 2.70?0.62, and 3.97?0.94, respectively. In this paper, we present the implementation and analysis of our implemented testbed considering the Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol. We investigate the effect of mobility and topology changing in the throughput of a Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). The mobile nodes move toward the destination at a regular speed. When the mobile nodes arrive at the corner, they stop for about three seconds. Experimental time is 150 seconds. In this work, we consider 6 models and we assess the performance of our testbed in terms of throughput, round trip time and packet loss. From our experiments, we found that the OLSR protocol has a good performance when the source node is moving. However, the performance is not good when the relay nodes are moving.

We designed a concept of high resolution and quantitative SPECT for imaging a selected small region-of-interest (ROI) of human brain. This system is aimed at achieving high resolution less than 1 mm and being applied for imaging neurons and evaluating drug delivery system. Pinhole or cone-beam collimators are useful for high-resolution imaging of small ROI. However, when the ROI is smaller than the object, the projection data are truncated by radioisotope outside ROI. In the reconstructed image, the truncation causes the artifact and the overestimation of voxel value, which deceases quantitative accuracy of physiological functions. We are introducing the new truncation compensated 3D-OSEM (TC-3DOSEM) reconstruction method. The truncated data can be successfully reconstructed within ROI by fulfilling the condition that ROI contains a priori knowledge. In addition to small field-of-view (FOV) detector, we are introducing the parallel-hole collimator attached large FOV detector covering the entire brain, to acquire the non-truncated data and provide the priori knowledge in small ROI, even if the resolution of the detector is low. For imaging with high resolution, we are using LaBr 3 (Ce) scintillator with optically coupled to position-sensitive photomultiplier tube (H8500, Hamamatsu, Japan) as the detector. And also, for proof of our concept, we performed preliminary experiment using pinhole SPECT and brain phantom. The reconstruction ROI contained the region outside the brain, that is, zero count as the priori knowledge. The truncated data were reconstructed by TC-3DOSEM. The reconstructed image without artifact and overestimation was obtained with high resolution. This preliminary experiment suggested feasibility of high resolution and quantitative SPECT for imaging a selected small ROI of human brain.
