We study the problem of orienting the edges of a weighted graph such that the maximum weighted out-degree of vertices is minimized. This problem, which has applications in the guard arrangement for example, can be shown to be NP-hard generally. In this paper we first give optimal orientation algorithms which run in polynomial time for the following special cases: (i) the input is an unweighted graph, or more generally, a graph with identically weighted edges, and (ii) the input graph is a tree. Then, by using those algorithms as sub-procedures, we provide a simple, combinatorial, min{wmax/wmin, (2-ε)}-approximation algorithm for the general case, where wmax and wmin are the maximum and the minimum weights of edges, respectively, and ε is some small positive real number that depends on the input.

A useful learning system for human motion characters of traditional arts, such as Mai (Japanese classic dance), Kabuki (one of Japan's traditional stage arts), etc., is being developed. In such arts an effective system to pass the tradition down from a top artist to next generations is required. Video contents are generally used to pass the human motions in traditional arts down for non-experts. However, the video contents normally show the human motions as the views from a single direction. If the human motions are presented from orthogonal three-directions at the same time, it comes more useful. So, our learning system produces the three-dimensional human motion by the sequences of views from a single direction in the video contents, then, the motions from any directions can be presented simultaneously with the video *** addition, a learner can check the difference in motion between a top artist and him/herself by the producing his/her three-dimensional skeleton motion with our system and the overlapping it with one of the top artist. Here, in the comparison between two different physiques (a top artist and a learner) a simple adjustment method is *** our study standard motion capture processes are employed, but our goal is to develop an original practical training system of performers' motion for beginners in traditional arts. Pinhole SPECT allows to image physiological functions in small animals with high spatial resolution. In case of cardiac imaging with higher resolution, the resolution can be improved by positioning a collimator close to an object, but truncation arises from radioisotope in the surrounding organs. This study was intended to evaluate the effect of truncation in quantitative cardiac imaging with small field-of-view pinhole SPECT by a computer simulation. Assuming a rat, a numerical phantom consists of cylinder with 10-mm diameter and 10-mm height, and cylinder with 36-mm diameter and 70-mm height as the cardiac region and the surrounding region (Background). The counts of the cardiac region and the background were 10 and 1, 2, 4 or 8, respectively. In this simulation, the field-of-view of reconstruction was defined as a sphere with 30-mm diameter. The projection data with truncation were reconstructed using pinhole 3D-OSEM algorithm. The counts on the reconstructed images were compared with that on original image. The counts on the cardiac regions in reconstructed images were overestimated 14.5%, 17.6%, 20.5% and 23.2% for the background counts of 1, 2, 4 and 8, respectively. These results suggest that the effect of truncation needs to be considered in quantitative cardiac imaging with pinhole SPECT.

In order to support multimedia communication, it is necessary to develop routing algorithms which use for routing more than one QoS parameters. This is because new services such as video on demand and remote meeting systems require better QoS. Also, for admission control of multimedia applications different QoS parameters should be considered. In our previous work, we proposed an intelligent routing and CAC strategy using cooperative agents. The proposed routing algorithm is a combination of source and distributed routing. However, in the previous research, we only considered the time delay for the routing. Also, QoS and congestion control parameters were considered just as indicators of QoS satisfication and congestion. In this work, we extend our previous work by proposing and implementing new algorithms based on fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm which use for admission control and routing many QoS parameters. Also, we evaluate by simulations the performance of the network extraction topology algorithm which reduces the search space of the proposed GA-based routing approach. Thus, the GA can find a feasible route very fast.
