Aspect-oriented refactoring is a promising technique for improving modularity and reducing complexity of existing software systems through encapsulating crosscutting concerns. As complexity of a system is often linked to the degree to which its components are connected, we investigate in this paper the impact of such refactoring activities on component relationships. We analyze two aspect-refactoring projects to determine circumstances when such activities are effective at reducing component relationships and when they are not. We measure two kinds of relationships between components, use and clone relations. We compare how these metrics changed between the original and the refactored system. Our findings indicate that aspect-oriented refactoring is successful in improving the modularity and complexity of the base code. However, we obtain mixed results when aspects are accounted for. Based on these results, we also discuss constraints to the technology as well as other design considerations that may limit the effectiveness of aspect-oriented refactoring on actual systems.

The success of developing service networks rely on obtaining a correct understanding of the end-to-end business processes. However, there are major concerns as to the lack of research efforts to examine methods to successfully manage the complexity of service networks. The insufficient communication efforts between business and technical experts results in a dissatisfactory service delivery and the inability to predict and measure the service network performance. This literature survey is initiated with purpose of finding a novel way to represent business processes in service networks and analyses the process performance. Specifically, we discuss the need to conceive tools and techniques to manage the complexity of service networks without jeopardising the performance of service networks and provide an overview of current simulation-based modelling approaches and optimising business processes.

Foraging Behavior in Ant Swarms can be very helpful when applied to the protocols in Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs). When the Ant Colony Optimization Scheme (ACO) is applied to a protocol, larger number of paths are generated from the source to destination which helps in improving the packet delivery ratio because an alternate back up path is always available in case a path gets broken due to the mobile nodes. In this paper, we apply the ACO scheme on an already existing Energy efficient protocol Conditional Max-Min Battery Capacity Routing (CMMBCR) (C.-K. Toh, 2001). The CMMBCR not only takes care of the total transmission energy in the network but also the residual battery capacity of the nodes. Hence applying ACO scheme on CMMBCR makes it more efficient in terms of energy, packet delivery ratio etc. The efficiency of our proposed protocol A-CMMBCR is then established by comparing it with some of the other existing Energy aware protocols such as Energy-Aware Routing protocol (EAAR) (Dhurandher et al., 2009), Minimum Transmission Power Routing (MTPR) (Scott and Bambos, 1996) and CMMBCR.
