Data mining is the analysis of (often large) observational data sets to find unsuspected relationships and to summarize the data in novel ways that are both understandable and useful to the data owner. Association rules are highly popular data mining method. Association rules show attributes value conditions that occur frequently together in a given dataset And apriori is an efficient association rule mining algorithm.

The apparent paradoxes of multipresence, having avatars in multiple places simultaneously, are resolvable by an 'autofocus' feature, which uses reciprocity to project overlaid soundscapes and simulate the precedence effect to consolidate the display. We have developed an interface for narrowcasting functions for networked mobile devices deployed in a Collaborative Virtual Environment. Featuring multiple icons in a '2.5D' application, the interface can be used to control motion, sensitivity, and audibility of avatars in a teleconference. The interface is integrated with other clients through a 'servent' (server/client hybrid) HTTP-TCP/IP bridge, interoperating with a heterogeneous groupware suite including stereographic panoramic browsers and spatial audio backends and speaker arrays. In the business world, financial institutions, like banks and investment firms, heavily rely on technology to manipulate daily operations and support business. Many more business processes have now become automated and require procedures to be approved. For example, when providing business services liked personal / corporate loans, mortgage, or Letter of Credit (LC), a customer is required to submit information within their applications; whereas, the service provider has to perform complicated approval procedures, involving different departments or even external parties. In this paper, we discuss how a credit approval system (CAS) handles the workflow of such business processes. The system is extensible to contemporary technologies including business process execution language (BPEL), asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX), and Java server face (JSF) in order to coordinate related parties through the Internet as well as to facilitate the operations and communications with different levels of staff in the Intranet. Our experiences and design characteristics will be further implemented into a system designed for a global financial firm.

Most of the existing algorithms for mining frequent items on data stream do not emphasis the importance of the recent data items. We present an algorithm using a fading factor to detect the data items with frequency counts exceeding a user-specified threshold. Our algorithm can detect ¿-approximate frequent data items on data stream using O(¿ -1 ) memory space and the processing time for each data item and a query is O(¿ -1 ). Experimental results on several artificial datasets and real datasets show our algorithm has higher precision, requires less memory and consumes less computation time than other similar methods.

Output-input feedback (OIF) Elman neural network is a dynamic feedback network. An improved model is proposed based on the OIF Elman neural network by introducing direction profit factor in this paper. Moreover, the proposed model is applied to forecast the composite index of stock. In addition, some comparisons are also made when the stock exchange is performed using prediction results from OIF Elman neural network. Simulation results show that the proposed model is feasible and effective in the finance field. It shows that the proposed model can not only improve the forecasting precision evidently and possess the characteristic of quick convergence but also provide a good reference tool for investors to obtain more profits.

MapReduce is a programming model that supports distributed and parallel processing for large-scale data-intensive applications such as machine learning, data mining, and scientific simulation. Hadoop is an open-source implementation of the MapReduce programming model. Hadoop is used by many companies including Yahoo!, Amazon, and Facebook to perform various data mining on large-scale data sets such as user search logs and visit logs. In these cases, it is very common to share the same computing resources by multiple users due to practical considerations about cost, system utilization, and manageability. However, Hadoop assumes that all cluster nodes are dedicated to a single user, failing to guarantee high performance in the shared MapReduce computation environment. In this paper, we propose two optimization schemes, prefetching and pre-shuffling, which improve the overall performance under the shared environment while retaining compatibility with the native Hadoop. The proposed schemes are implemented in the native Hadoop-0.18.3 as a plug-in component called HPMR (high performance MapReduce engine). Our evaluation on the Yahoo!Grid platform with three different workloads and seven types of test sets from Yahoo! shows that HPMR reduces the execution time by up to 73%.

Global optimization has many real-world applications. Most methods for solving it are based on search,so decreasing its search space can increase the efficiency for their solving. Symmetry-breaking is an important technique for decreasing search space and it has been widely used in SAT,CSP and so on. In this paper, we try to decrease the search space of an unconstrained optimization problem by symmetry *** present a method for extracting symmetries of an unconstrained optimization problem, and a method for constructing constraints to break those symmetries. The experimental results show that our methods are effective and efficient and symmetry-breaking can indeed increase the efficiency of global optimization problems solving.

This report summarizes the proceedings of the one day BioSharing meeting held at the Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB) 2010 conference in Boston, MA, USA This inaugural BioSharing event was hosted by the Genomic Standards Consortium as part of its M3 & BioSharing special interest group (SIG) workshop. The BioSharing event included invited talks from a range of community leaders and a panel discussion at the end of the day. The panel session led to the formal agreement among community leaders to join together to promote cross-community knowledge exchange and collaborations. A key focus of the newly formed Biosharing community will be linking up resources to promote real-world data sharing (virtuous cycle of data) and supporting compliance with data policies through the creation of a one-stop-portal of information.
