Finding and repairing coding errors is an essential part of the software development lifecycle for creating dependable and safe software. Static and dynamic code analysis are two often employed methods of code analysis. While dynamic analysis examines a program's behavior as it is being executed, static analysis involves looking at the source code only. In order to conduct a more thorough study, this paper compares and contrasts static and dynamic code analysis methods, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages as well as possible combinations. The efficiency of these methodologies in detecting various software flaws, including security holes, performance problems, and logical errors, is compared in the study. It also examines the drawbacks of each strategy and makes recommendations for how to get around them, like employing static analysis to find vulnerabilities early on and dynamic analysis to find problems that only emerge during program execution. The study's findings suggest that combining static and dynamic analysis methods can boost software analysis's overall efficacy. Tools for static analysis can spot problems like code smells and grammar errors that are hard or impossible to find through dynamic analysis. Dynamic analysis techniques can spot problems like memory leaks and resource contention that are only detectable during program execution. © 2023, CC BY.

Crime forecasting is a critical endeavor aimed at preventing future criminal actions, specifically the rising rate of violence against women in India. This study proposes the model to predict crimes committed against women using data from the National Crime Records Bureau's (NCRB) monthly crime report. The dataset encompasses district and state-wise crime activities from 2001 to 2014. The proposed work objectives are identifying factors influencing these crimes and developing predictive models using machine learning (ML). The study employs Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), to enhance the predictive power of the models. The suggested study uses XGBoost, Random Forest (RF), and Neural Network (NN). The neural network algorithm outperforms the Random Forest and XGBoost techniques among these three. The Random Forest algorithm has the worst performance. After comparing the accuracies of various methods, such as XGBoost (92%), and Random Forest (89.84%) classifiers using imbalanced datasets (without employing Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) technique), it was found that the neural network algorithm (95.81%) delivers the highest accuracy. This study looks at model accuracies and finds that, after applying the SMOTE algorithm, neural network algorithms performed best, with an accuracy of 96.76%, outperforming the accuracies of the remaining models, which included the Random Forest (93.08%) and XG-Boost (95%).

With the rising competition among pharmaceutical companies, the current drug supply chain market has become more competitive with high-quality product segments. The rapid growth of internet pharmacies has made it more difficult to standardize drug safety throughout in complex distributed supply chain networks. There is a high chance of introducing counterfeit drugs which are almost the same as the original pharmaceuticals. Due to the lack of transparency the possibility of tampering with drugs in the current manual and web-based pharmaceutical systems is extremely high. Throughout the past recent years, these counterfeit drugs were recognized as the one of major worldwide problems. This situation is worse in developing countries. The unavailability of verifying the legitimacy of drug suppliers and poor mechanisms to trace the drugs were identified as critical points that need to be resolved. SUPPLYDECK comes as a solution for the critical scenario mentioned. This solution addresses the above problems using blockchain technology, as a distributed digital ledger that ensures transparency, traceability, and security. This can show promise for solving some global supply chain management problems using smart contracts and user authentication along with IoT technology and machine learning concepts that are critically examined with this potential application. © 2022 IEEE.

Predicting water quality is essential to preserving human health and environmental sustain ability. Traditional water quality assessment methods often face scalability and real-time monitoring limitations. With accuracies of 62%, 72 %, 83 %, 69%, 63 %, 66%, 71 %, 63 %, and 64%, respectively, the current techniques utilized were Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest Regressor, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Naive Bayes, K-nearest neighbors, Support Vector Machine, AdaBoost, and Bagging [9]. This study addresses these challenges by leveraging Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) to balance the dataset and evaluating model performance on datasets of 5,000 and 10,000 entries per class. A robust dataset obtained from Kaggle was used, with five models - Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Feed Forward Neural Network (FFNN), Categorical Boosting (CatBoost), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Random Forest - evaluated and compared. The proposed methods demonstrate significant improvements in accuracy, with XGBoost achieving the highest accuracy of 95.53%, followed by Random Forest at 93.98%. This work underscores the importance of advanced machine learning techniques in addressing the limitations of traditional methods, enhancing accuracy, scalability, and adaptability in water quality prediction. These findings contribute to advancing environmental monitoring and management practices with reliable, data-driven insights.

Components are the fundamental building blocks of Android applications. Different functional modules represented by components often rely on inter-component communication mechanisms to achieve cross-module data transfer and method invocation. It is necessary to conduct robustness testing on components to prevent component launching crashes and privacy leaks caused by unexpected input parameters. However, as the complexity of the input parameter structure and the diversity of possible inputs, developers may overlook specific inputs that result in exceptions. At the same time, the vast input space also brings challenges to efficient component testing. In this paper, we designed an automated test generation and execution tool for Android application components named ICTDroid, which combines static parameter extraction and adaptive-strength combinatorial testing generation to detect bugs with a compact test suite. Experiments have shown that the tool triggers 205 unique exceptions in 30 open-source applications with 1,919 test cases in 83 minutes, where the developers have confirmed six defects in three issues we reported.

Numerous disabilities such as deaf and mute are suffered from not being capable of communicating with normal people, it is necessary to find a way to solve this problem. A feasible method is Sign Language Recognition (SLR) which is a sort of pattern recognition technique. In this paper, machine learning and deep learning methods are applied to recognize and classify American Sign Language (ASL), and only 24 English letters are classified because letter J and Z require fingers to move. First, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and manifold algorithms are used to do dimension reduction to accelerate the training of machine learning and visualize it. Second, various machine learning methods such as Random Forest Classification (RFC), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Gaussian Naïve Bayes (GNB), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) are applied to classify the pattern. Since the SVM algorithm has several hyperparameters, this study uses the Grid Search method to find the best combination of hyperparameter which lead to predicting more accurately. It is found that different dimensionality reduction algorithms have unequal effects on the accuracy of each prediction model, and it can be concluded that the manifold algorithm is the best dimension reduction algorithm only for KNN but not for other prediction models, and PCA is much more feasible than KNN applied in such machine learning algorithms except KNN. Two deep learning algorithms such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Deep Neural Networks (DNN) are also used in classification and their accuracy is highest among such algorithms mentioned above. © 2022 IEEE.

Facial expression recognition (FER) has made significant progress in the past decade, but the inconsistency of distribution between different datasets greatly limits the generalization performance of a learned model on unseen datasets. Recent works resort to aligning feature distributions between domains to improve the cross-domain recognition performance. However, current algorithms use one output each layer for the feature representation, which can not well represent the complex correlation among multi-scale features. To this end, this work proposes a parallel convolution to augment the representation ability of each layer, and introduces an orthogonal regularization to make each convolution represent independent semantic. With the assistance of a self-attention mechanism, the proposed algorithm can generate multiple combinations of multi-scale features to allow the network to better capture the correlation among the outputs of different layers. The proposed algorithm achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performances in terms of the average generalization performance on the task of cross-database (CD)-FER. Meanwhile, when AFED or RAF-DB is used for the training, and other four databases, i.e. JAFFE, SFEW, FER2013 and EXPW are used for testing, the proposed algorithm outperforms the baselines by the margins of 5.93% and 2.24% in terms of the average accuracy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Variational quantum algorithms, inspired by neural networks, have become a novel approach in quantum computing. However, designing efficient parameterized quantum circuits remains a challenge. Quantum architecture search tackles this by adjusting circuit structures along with gate parameters to automatically discover high-performance circuit structures. In this study, we propose an end-to-end distributed quantum architecture search framework, where we aim to automatically design distributed quantum circuit structures for interconnected quantum processing units with specific qubit connectivity. We devise a circuit generation algorithm which incorporates TeleGate and TeleData methods to enable nonlocal gate implementation across quantum processing units. While taking into account qubit connectivity, we also incorporate qubit assignment from logical to physical qubits within our quantum architecture search framework. A two-stage progressive training-free strategy is employed to evaluate extensive circuit structures without circuit training costs. Through numerical experiments on three VQE tasks, the efficacy and efficiency of our scheme is demonstrated. Our research into discovering efficient structures for distributed quantum circuits is crucial for near-term quantum computing where a single quantum processing unit has a limited number of qubits. Distributed quantum circuits allow for breaking down complex computations into manageable parts that can be processed across multiple quantum processing units.
