This research aims to develop a comprehensive system for Sinhala Sign Language (SSL) that includes a learning system, dynamic sign detection, audio/video to sign conversion, and vocal training. SSL plays a crucial role in facilitating communication for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in Sri Lanka. The learning system provides a platform for learning SSL and includes a text-to-sign language interpreter. The dynamic sign detection system uses computer vision techniques to identify and interpret dynamic signs accurately. The audio/video to sign conversion system bridges the gap between spoken language and SSL by converting auditory information into visual representations. The vocal training system focuses on enhancing the vocal skills of cochlear implanted children. This research contributes to the development of effective communication and language skills for SSL users.

With technological improvements in the restaurant industry, competition is fierce, and a restaurant's success depends on providing excellent and luxury customer satisfaction. The food industry has had to continuously advance with technology in order to adequately satisfy the wants of people leading increasingly luxurious lives. While some restaurants still rely on manpower, the majority are eager to advance with technology in order to improve the standard of their offerings and enhance their customers' experiences. In order to optimize customer satisfaction and experience, this research project intends to investigate the potential of intelligence in the restaurant business. This research has explored intelligent systems such as digital self-service menus for ordering food, augmented reality (AR) visualization systems for customers, the observation of chefs in the kitchen, and the usage of robots to serve meals. This research paper analyzes the advantages of automating restaurant operations and how to do so to enhance customer satisfaction. Overall, this study has the potential to transform the restaurant industry and increase customer satisfaction.

The COVID-19 pandemic has expedited the shift in education to online learning, which has exposed shortcomings in virtual learning environments' personalization and engagement. This research addresses these issues by developing a web application designed to enhance student engagement and learning efficiency. The system has gamified collaboration features, video chapter segmentation, and personalized video recommendation system. The methodology comprises models for generating chapter titles and for precise video transcription, and machine learning algorithms for tailored suggestions depending on user input. Interactive Questions and Answers modules and real-time synchronized video playback are included. The results demonstrate how the system's personalized content, interactive tests, and teamwork tools increase user engagement and comprehension. The efficacy of personalized material and real-time synchronization in enhancing learning results is discussed. This innovative approach offers a comprehensive solution to the challenges of online education, creating a more immersive and interactive learning experience.

XRL-SHAP-Cache:an explainable reinforcement learning approach for intelligent edge service caching in content delivery networks

Content delivery networks(CDNs) play a pivotal role in the modern internet infrastructure by enabling efficient content delivery across diverse geographical regions. As an essential component of CDNs, the edge caching scheme directly influences the user experience by determining the caching and eviction of content on edge servers. With the emergence of 5G technology, traditional caching schemes have faced challenges in adapting to increasingly complex and dynamic network environments. Consequently, deep reinforcement learning(DRL) offers a promising solution for intelligent zero-touch network governance. However, the blackbox nature of DRL models poses challenges in understanding and making trusting decisions. In this paper,we propose an explainable reinforcement learning(XRL)-based intelligent edge service caching approach,namely XRL-SHAP-Cache, which combines DRL with an explainable artificial intelligence(XAI) technique for cache management in CDNs. Instead of focusing solely on achieving performance gains, this study introduces a novel paradigm for providing interpretable caching strategies, thereby establishing a foundation for future transparent and trustworthy edge caching solutions. Specifically, a multi-level cache scheduling framework for CDNs was formulated theoretically, with the D3QN-based caching scheme serving as the targeted interpretable model. Subsequently, by integrating Deep-SHAP into our framework, the contribution of each state input feature to the agent's Q-value output was calculated, thereby providing valuable insights into the decision-making process. Fake news continues to proliferate, posing an increasing threat to public discourse. The paper proposes a framework of a Mixture of Experts, Sentiment Analysis, and Sarcasm Detection experts for improved fake news detection. This approach captures the emotional cues in the text through a Sentiment Analysis expert, which is based on bidirectional encoder representations from Transformers (BERT) models with sentiment vectors generated using SentiWordNet and Integrated Gradients. It combines a sarcasm detection expert based on BERT, recognizing sarcasm and its type to help classify fake news. By fusing these experts through a Mixture of Experts gateway, subtle linguistic cues often found in fake news are more effectively analyzed, leading to improved accuracy in detecting misinformation. Experimental results are presented as 96% for the Sarcasm expert with the BERT base model and 83% for the Sentiment Analysis expert with the distilled version of the BERT (DistilBERT) base model, proving the effectiveness of the proposed approach in beating traditional methods.

Human emotions, psychology, and social well-being are all parts of mental health. It has an impact on how people feel, think, and act. It aids in figuring out how individuals act under pressure, interact with each other, and arrive at decisions. Every period of life, from childhood and adolescence to maturity, is vital for mental health. There are several elements that affect mental health issues, such as experiences with trauma or abuse in life, work-life stress, relationship difficulties, etc. Help is available for many of the mental health issues that are identified within a person. The proposed solution is implementing a friendly chatbot that is capable of capturing human emotional states (happy, angry, sad, etc.) and mental health states (depression, anxiety, stress, etc.) using human computer interaction and health record management. The proposed solution has been developed by considering both regular users and mental health practitioners. The user can communicate with the proposed assistant using text or voice to identify their emotions and mental health based on keywords, particular characteristics of voice and facial recognition used during the conversation. Once the mental health and emotion statuses are analyzed the electronic health records will be readily available on the blockchain as blockchain tokens, this could be shared with the practitioners securely.

Human emotions are the interplay of thought processes and perceptions. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) offers a unique window into this dynamic interplay by eliciting transient emotional responses. These responses, detectable through wearable biosensors, can provide valuable insights into automated human emotions. This study delves into the physiological effects of auditory ASMR stimuli to detect emotion arousal levels. It collects Electrodermal Activity (EDA) and Heart Rate (HR) physiological data from 23 participants exposed to happiness and calmness-inducing ASMR audios. The study employs statistical data analysis to differentiate between the emotional arousals induced by the auditory stimuli. It proposes a novel AI-driven human emotion cognition system named FED-ASMR utilizing Federated Learning (FL) to preserve users' privacy and sensitive physiological data. It uses a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural network to classify arousal levels and distinguish between happy and calm emotions, achieving an accuracy of 88.80 %. This research addresses privacy concerns and lays the groundwork for utilizing ASMR audios for human emotion cognition systems.

Recently, Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) is evolving as a solution for offloading computationally intensive tasks in in-vehicle environments. However, when the number of vehicles and users is large, pure edge resources may be insufficient and limited, most existing work focuses on minimizing system latency by designing some offloading strategies. Therefore, hybrid multilayer edge structures are in dire require of mission deployment strategies that can synthesize cost and mission latency. In this paper, we argue that each application can be decomposed into multiple interdependent subtasks, and that the different subtasks can be deployed separately into different edge layers in a hybrid three-tier edge computing infrastructure for execution. We develop an improved DQN task deployment algorithm based on Lyapunov optimization to jointly optimize the average workflow latency and cost under a long-term cost constraint, and simulation results clearly show that, comparing with the traditional approach, our proposed method effectively reduces the cost consumption by 92.8% while sacrificing only some latency. © ICST institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2024.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disease that has severe impacts on an individual’s quality of life. Compared with structural and functional MRI-based biomarkers for the disease, electroencephalography (EEG) can provide more accessible alternatives for clinical insights. While deep learning (DL) techniques have provided excellent outcomes, many techniques fail to model spatial information and dynamic brain connectivity, and face challenges in robust feature learning, limited data sizes, and poor explainability. To address these issues, we proposed a novel graph neural network (GNN) technique for explainable PD detection using resting state EEG. Specifically, we employ structured global convolutions with contrastive learning to better model complex features with limited data, a novel multi-head graph structure learner to capture the non-Euclidean structure of EEG data, and a head-wise gradient-weighted graph attention explainer to offer neural connectivity insights. We developed and evaluated our method using the UC San Diego Parkinson’s disease EEG dataset, and achieved 69.40% detection accuracy in subject-wise leave-one-out cross-validation while generating intuitive explanations for the learnt graph topology. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.
