Simultaneous Learning Intensity and Optical Flow from High-speed Spike Stream

Bio-inspired vision sensors, which emulate the human retina by recording light intensity as binary spikes, have gained increasing interest in recent years. Among them, the spike camera is capable of perceiving fine textures by simulating a small retinal region called the fovea and producing high temporal resolution (20,000 Hz) spatiotemporal spike streams. To bridge the gap between binary spike streams and human vision in high-speed scenes, reconstructing intensity and optical flow from high temporal resolution spikes is particularly important. In this paper, we present a hybrid SNN-ANN network designed for simultaneous intensity and optical flow learning from spike streams. To adaptively extract spatial and temporal features from continuous spike streams, we propose a spiking neuron module with dense connections that efficiently processes both short-term and long-term spike data, while maintaining low power consumption characteristics. Subsequently, we introduce two decoders for optical flow and intensity estimation that complement each other. A temporal-aware warping module, based on flow features, is specifically designed to align the temporal features of the intensity decoder, thereby reducing motion artifacts. Concurrently, improved intensity features contribute to more accurate flow feature predictions, resulting in a mutually beneficial relationship within our network. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed network, we conduct experiments on both simulated and real spike datasets. Our network outperforms existing state-of-the-art spike-based reconstruction and optical flow estimation methods, demonstrating its potential for advancing the field of bio-inspired vision sensors. This paper focuses on the modeling of a recommendation process for the restaurant industry. It is a challenge job for a restaurant owner to ascertain the intentions of customers to evaluate their services, further improve their profit margin. So, the objective of this study is to design a fuzzy-based prediction model of customers’ intentions for a fine dining experience. To facilitate a comparative analysis and to identify the optimal approach, various membership functions (MF) and de-fuzzification methods are employed along with the analysis of the correlational behavior among various input subsets. Results have shown that CoA method with triangular MF are well enough to implement the model. The fuzzy-correlation analysis presents various levels of membership strengths for a same recommendation score in some cases. Moreover, the evaluation of the proposed model based on a custom dataset shows prominent results with as 0.938. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Sample Efficient Reinforcement Learning Using Graph-Based Memory Reconstruction

Reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms typically require orders of magnitude more interactions than humans to learn effective policies. Research on memory in neuroscience suggests that humans' learning efficiency benefits from associating their experiences and reconstructing potential events. Inspired by this finding, we introduce a human brainlike memory structure for agents and build a general learning framework based on this structure to improve the RL sampling efficiency. Since this framework is similar to the memory reconstruction process in psychology, we name the newly proposed RL framework as graph-based memory reconstruction (GBMR). In particular, GBMR first maintains an attribute graph on the agent's memory and then retrieves its critical nodes to build and update potential paths among these nodes. This novel pipeline drives the RL agent to learn faster with its memory-enhanced value functions and reduces interactions with the environment by reconstructing its valuable paths. Extensive experimental analyses and evaluations in the grid maze and some challenging Atari environments demonstrate GBMRs superiority over traditional RL methods. We will release the source code and trained models to facilitate further studies in this research direction. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of effective vegetable sales strategies is crucial for enhancing supermarket profitability, and these strategies are heavily reliant on a nuanced understanding of the sales volume distribution patterns across different vegetable categories. However, most existing studies fail to thoroughly analyze these distribution patterns, often neglecting factors such as sales volume magnitude and fluctuations. To address this gap, we first propose a comprehensive framework based on a K-means++ clustering model and Spearman correlation coefficient to analyze the sales data. Firstly, we normalize the data to eliminate the impact of differing dimensions across vegetable categories. Next, we analyze the sales data from both quarterly and daily perspectives. Data visualization is performed utilizing line charts, followed by a descriptive analysis of the sales volume distribution considering both magnitude and fluctuation. Furthermore, we utilize a K-means++ clustering model and the Spearman correlation coefficient to further explore the distribution patterns and interrelationships among different vegetable categories. The results of the experiments reveal the daily and quarterly sales distribution patterns of various vegetable categories, providing valuable insights to support the development of effective vegetable sales strategies for supermarkets. © 2024 IEEE.

In the process of coal mine drilling,controlling the rotary speed is important as it determines the efficiency and safety of *** this paper,a linear extended state observer(LESO)based backstepping controller for rotary speed is proposed,which can overcome the impact of changes in coal seam hardness on rotary ***,the influence of coal seam hardness on the drilling rig’s rotary system is considered for the first time,which is reflected in the numerical variation of load torque,and a dynamic model for the design of rotary speed controller is *** an LESO is designed to observe the load torque,and feedforward compensation is carried out to overcome the influence of coal seam *** on the model of the compensated system,a backstepping method is used to design a controller to achieve tracking control of the rotary ***,the effectiveness of the controller designed in this paper is demonstrated through simulation and field experiments,the steady-state error of the rotary speed in field is 1 r/min,and the overshoot is reduced to 5.8%.This greatly improves the stability and security,which is exactly what the drilling process requires.

Adaptive Prescribed-Time Neural Control of Nonlinear Systems via Dynamic Surface Technique

The adaptive practical prescribed-time (PPT) neural control is studied for multiinput multioutput (MIMO) nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinear functions and unknown input gain matrices. Unlike existing PPT design schemes based on backstepping, this study proposes a novel PPT control framework using the dynamic surface control (DSC) approach. First, a novel nonlinear filter (NLF) with an adaptive parameter estimator and a piecewise function is constructed to effectively compensate for filter errors and facilitate prescribed-time convergence. Based on this, a unified DSC-based adaptive PPT control algorithm, augmented with a neural networks (NNs) approximator, is developed, where NNs are used to approximate unknown nonlinear system functions. This algorithm not only addresses the inherent computational complexity explosion associated with traditional backstepping methods but also reduces the constraints on filter design parameters compared to the DSC algorithm that relies on linear filters. The simulation showcases the effectiveness and superiority of the devised scheme by employing a two-degree-of-freedom robot manipulator. © 2024 IEEE.

The utilization of benchmarking techniques has a crucial role in the development of novel optimization algorithms, and also in performing comparisons between already existing methods. This is especially true in the field of evolutionary computation, where the theoretical performance of the method is difficult to analyze. For these benchmarking purposes, artificial (or synthetic) functions are currently the most widely used ones. In this paper, we present a collection of real-world robotics problems that can be used for benchmarking evolutionary computation methods. The proposed benchmark problems are a combination of inverse kinematics and path planning in robotics that can be parameterized. We conducted an extensive numerical investigation that encompassed solving 200 benchmark problems by seven selected metaheuristic algorithms. The results of this investigation showed that the proposed benchmark problems are quite difficult (multimodal and non-separable) and that they can be successfully used for differentiating and ranking various metaheuristics. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Data augmentation methods for neural machine translation are particularly useful when limited amount of training data is available, which is often the case when dealing with low-resource languages. We introduce a novel augmentation method, which generates new sentences by swapping objects and subjects across bisentences. This is performed simultaneously based on the dependency parse trees of the source and target sentences. We name this method TreeSwap. Our results show that TreeSwap achieves consistent improvements over baseline models in 4 language pairs in both directions on resource-constrained datasets. We also explore domain-specific corpora, but find that our method does not make significant improvements on law, medical and IT data. We report the scores of similar augmentation methods and find that TreeSwap performs comparably. We also analyze the generated sentences qualitatively and find that the augmentation produces a correct translation in most cases. Our code is available on Github1. © 2023 Incoma Ltd. In industrial quality assessment, monitoring whether the textured product contains defects is a critical step. Compared to a large number of defect-free images that are easy to obtain, anomaly samples are limited and vary randomly in size and type. It is challenging to develop an automatic and accurate texture defect localization system that only uses normal images for training. In this article, a multiresolution feature learning network is proposed to detect various texture defects in an unsupervised manner. A robust pretrained model is first employed to extract the perceptual features from the input image, then the perceptual features of various layers are fed to the corresponding multiscale autoencoder framework. This hierarchical alignment strategy aids in receiving multilevel information for locating anomalies of various sizes. Moreover, a residual attention module is embedded in the architecture to further improve the detection performance. Our proposed method has achieved state-of-the-art performance on the texture dataset of MVTecAD. We also extended the experiment to the real industrial texture datasets, and its detection result is better than the major existing advanced techniques. © 2020 IEEE.

Detection of Perfect Stealthy Attacks on Cyber-Physical Systems Subject to Measurement Quantizations: A Watermark-Based Strategy

In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.
