These days, spectrum insufficiency is the most common issue. If the number of smartphone users who access the radio spectrum grows, the radio spectrum becomes increasingly scarce. Certain types of technology equipment are designed to work only within a specific spectrum range, and there is rivalry in specifications for various other applications. As a result, this paper effectively exploits a licensed user’s unused spectrum to reduce the crowded spectrum and eradicate the Radio spectrum shortage. Licensed primary users (PUs) and secondary users (SUs) would be accepted into a Fusion Centre (FC) based on a spectrum framework with authentication. The approved PUs begin by updating their information to FC1;thenceforth, encryption is performed on the information uploaded to FC1. This information from FC1 is stored in Cloud Storage after encryption using the Blowfish algorithm & De-oxy DNA, a fast encryption algorithm. Following that, FC2, connected to the same cloud environment, downloads the PU data uploaded. The spectrum is then allocated to the authenticated SU linked to FC2 based on signal conditions and priority. This proposed method also avoids any delay in the network and encryption by acquiring a fast encryption algorithm, making the system faster and avoiding the Primary User Emulation (PUE) attack. Later, the time taken for the Tiny Encryption Algorithm (TEA) and the Blowfish/DNA algorithm are compared to validate the run time for different input images. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In response to the increasing penetration of volatile and uncertain renewable energy,the regional transmission organizations(RTOs)have been recently focusing on enhancing the models of pump storage hydropower(PSH)plants,which are one of the key flexibility assets in the day-ahead(DA)and real-time(RT)markets,to further boost their flexibility provision *** by the recent research works that explored the potential benefits of excluding PSHs’cost-related terms from the objective functions of the DA market clearing model,this paper completes a rolling RT market scheme that is compatible with the DA ***,with the vision that PSHs could be permitted to submit state-of-charge(SOC)headrooms in the DA market and to release them in the RT market,this paper uncovers that PSHs could increase the total revenues from the two markets by optimizing their SOC headrooms,assisted by the proposed tri-level optimal SOC headroom ***,in the proposed tri-level model,the middle and lower levels respectively mimic the DA and RT scheduling processes of PSHs,and the upper level determines the optimal headrooms to be submitted to the RTO for maximizing the total revenue from the two *** case studies quantify the profitability of the optimal SOC headroom submissions as well as the associated financial risks.

Dynamic Modeling and Quantum-Enhanced Forecasting of Multi-Seasonal Energy Prices in Simulated Microgrid Environments

The study address the challenge of forecasting per unit energy prices in a microgrid environment consisting of solar and hydro power resources under multi-seasonal *** deep learning techniques such as LSTM,GRU and ESN often struggle with non-linear dependencies and volatility in energy market. To overcome these we propose a hybrid framework incorporating Adiabatic Quantum Computing (AQC) for electricity price forecasting. The proposed AQC model encodes-32 system and market related variables into quantum states and applies adiabatic evolution to derive optimized price prediction. Simulation results using real microgrid data set-up based on HIL shows that AQC reduces forecasting error by 17.03% compared to LSTM, 14.29% to GRU and 13.88% to ESN over 24-hrs and 48-hrs horizons. The enhanced accuracy and robustness of the quantum assisted model demonstrates its potential for next generation energy market forecasting and decisions making *** entire framework is tested using a synthetic microgrid dataset designed to emulate real-world seasonal and operational dynamics. While this enables controlled validation of the models, the generalizability of the results to real world deployment requires further empirical evaluations on physical microgrid data set. © 2013 IEEE.

For future Internet of Vehicles (IoV), communications and computing will converge to provide services. Federated learning (FL), as one of the typical distributed computing technologies, needs to be integrated with IoV. For such integration, FL suffers from the straggler effect that the entire learning speed is lowered down, because of the existence of the devices, such as low-powered road side units and vehicles, taking more time to complete their tasks. Although the existing mechanisms reduce straggler effects by adopting asynchronous mechanisms and clustering mechanisms, they lack the detailed analysis of the reasons and the impacts of each cause, leading to inefficiencies in the design of algorithm. Additionally, most of the existing work only considered the impact of a single factor in computation, communication, or data distribution, which lacks comprehensive on research for causes of stragglers effects. The bottleneck is that it is laborious to observe the time delay precisely with the existing high-calculating evaluations. In this article, we elaborately explore the effects of computing power, communication capability, and data distributions on the straggler effects with carefully designing and conducting the extensive experiments. After investigations, we propose a novel learning completion time estimation formula for low computing capability devices with mini-batch stochastic gradient decent (SGD). We compare our proposed estimation formula with the one based on floating operation per second (FLOPs). Through the evaluations, our formula can demonstrate the improvement up to 72.4% at docker and 32.4% at Raspberry Pi device compared to the existing work. © 2014 IEEE.

Denoising Piecewise Constant Nanopore Signals

Nanopore sequencing signals can be described as indirect noisy observations that reflect the instantaneous conductance of the nanopore channel as an analyte DNA molecule translocates through the pore in real time, with δ nucleotides (δ-mers) blocking the pore at any instant. The sequence of overlapping δ-mers along the ssDNA molecule are thus indirectly observed as a sequence of conductance levels (i.e., a signature) that is used to characterize its DNA sequence. In this paper, we denoise piecewise constant nanopore signals drawn from the same Gaussian-output, left-to-right hidden Markov model (HMM) and recover the unknown signature that is used to parameterize the HMM. We place a Gaussian prior on the signature and use importance sampling to approximate the minimum mean-square error estimate (MMSE) of the signature given the signals. To circumvent the difficulty of sampling from the true posterior, we construct a proposal distribution from which the joint segmentation of the observed signals can be efficiently sampled in O(Mn2k) time, where M is the number of signals, n is the average duration of each signal, and k is the length of the signature. Finally, we evaluate the performance of the algorithm using both simulated and experimental nanopore signals generated by Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ (ONT) R10.4.1 nanopore. The proposed method can be effective in constructing accurate δ-mer tables used to fully characterize all the 4δ states of any nanopore sequencer. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

In this work, the antenna optimisation process is done by using ML algorithms such as KNN, random forest, Gradient Boost, XG Boost and MLP. Then the predicted results are ensembled using Voting Regressor. A Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CDRA) was designed and simulated in CST MWS'23 for this purpose. Dataset is created by varying the radius of the DR using parametric sweep function of the EM simulator. A close prediction between actual values and the predicted ones is obtained using these ML models. It is observed that by ensembling these varied approaches, a model that can handle different types of relationships in the data, can be created. This algorithm can be further utilized for optimisation of other antenna parameters and thus helping in reducing time in optimising complex antenna designs. The accuracy achieved by the ensemble model is 98.6% while maintaining a small MSE of 0.001. The optimized design shows stable characteristics within the ISM band and hence can be used for biomedical as well as wireless communication applications. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel, compact, and a dual-port MIMO antenna designed for ultrawideband, Sub-6 GHz, Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The antenna uses a stretchable jeans textile substrate embedded with elastomeric materials, enhancing its dielectric properties and flexibility. The innovation in this design stems from the introduction of defects (slots) on the stubs connected to a partially etched ground plane, which significantly improves isolation, achieving a port isolation of 47.5 dB which is superior to conventional designs. Operating across a wide frequency range of 2.82–14.23 GHz, it supports critical bands including WLAN, WiMAX, RAS, N79, C-band, and Sub-6 GHz, making it ideal for next-generation wireless systems. The antenna, with its compact footprint of 50 × 35 mm2, also covers ISM applications (2.4 GHz/5.8 GHz), making it versatile for medical and industrial communication needs. It delivers excellent performance, including a return loss (S11) below −10 dB, diversity gain above 9.95, and channel capacity loss below 0.25 bits/s/Hz. Additionally, it maintains a mean effective gain below 0.16 dB, an envelope correlation coefficient under 0.054, and a peak gain of 3.97 dB with over 82.45% radiation efficiency. These features make the proposed antenna a significant advancement, suited for future communication systems, wearable devices, and IoT-based Sub-6 GHz and ISM band applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The quality of the machining of the materials is depending on the input constrains of the process and its composition of different alloying elements. The outstanding material properties of gun metal are achieved by the composition of copper, tin and zinc. This paper to investigate the machining behaviors of gun metal through computer numerical control turning process with different input constrains. The response factors such as cutting force, tool tip temperature and surface roughness are evaluated by manipulate the input factors. The experimental results are compared with response surface methodology model (RSM). It is used to optimize the input and output factors. The minimized cutting force, tool tip temperature and surface roughness are 84.87 N, 200.10 C and 0.75 microns respectively. The surface plots are used to correlate the dependent and independent variables. The novelty of the experiment is that parametric analysis in the machining of gun metal using computer numerical control turning process. Investigate the cutting force, tool temperature and surface roughness of the gun metal and it can be recommended to rotating elements such as gears and bearings. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

A Projected Gradient Descent Algorithm for Designing Low-Resolution Finite-Alphabet Equalizers in All-Digital Massive MU-MIMO communication Systems

Incorporating low-resolution finite-alphabet equalizers into all-digital base station architectures is a promising approach to enhance energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness in massive multi-user multiple-input multiple-output uplink systems. These equalizers represent the spatial equalization matrix using low-resolution coefficients. However, designing these coefficients to achieve the desired bit error rate (BER) performance is a computationally challenging task that is classified as NP-hard. A previous study used Riemannian manifold optimization (RMO) to design a low-resolution spatial equalization matrix to address this challenge. Although the RMO-assisted equalizer provides excellent BER performance, it has high computational complexity and runtime. In this study, we propose a computationally efficient algorithm based on the projected gradient descent (PGD) framework to simultaneously reduce the computational time and complexity of the equalization algorithm while maintaining the same BER performance as the RMO-assisted equalizer. Our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed PGD-assisted equalizer achieves almost the same performance as the RMO-assisted equalizer with significantly lower computational complexity. Notably, the proposed PGD-based algorithm has a faster convergence rate than RMO, running approximately 151.75 times faster. © 2013 IEEE.

Influence of performance and emission of diesel engine with alumina nano material-based catalyst biodiesel using IoT

In this study, the performance and emissions of Al2O3 alkaline cottonseed biodiesel-powered compression ignition engines were predicted. An experiment was conducted using different biodiesel blends made from cottonseed oil under various loading conditions. Biodiesel was produced using ethanol and Cao-mg/Al2O3 as catalysts through the transesterification process and blended with diesel to produce CBDN10, CBDN20, CBDN30, and CBDN40. The CBDN20 blends showed an evident reduction in fuel consumption by 8% and a 12% improvement in thermal efficiency at high static thrust. The use of these blends resulted in minimal CO, CO2, and NOx emissions from engines. These emissions were monitored by an IoT system and analysed with gas analysers, which revealed CBDN20’s ability to reduce nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbon emissions compared to diesel. Additionally, CBDN20 demonstrated improved thermal efficiency and reduced brake-specific fuel consumption compared to the other blends. Copyright © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
