Weeds significantly hinder agricultural productivity by reducing crop yields and increasing production costs. Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) is critical for equipping farmers with early detection capabilities to implement effective weed management strategies. Among AI technologies, deep learning (DL) techniques are especially effective for analyzing agricultural field images to identify weed species. This paper reviews state-of-the-art DL methodologies, with a focus on the YOLOv9 model for weed detection. Our findings highlight YOLOv9's superior effectiveness, achieving an accuracy of $\mathbf{9 0 \%}$, due to its robust architecture and advanced feature extraction. The model's proficiency in accurately identifying weeds is evident from our thematic analysis. We also explore various image acquisition devices, including robots, drones, and mobile phones. Comparative evaluations show that YOLOv9 consistently outperforms other DL techniques, achieving remarkable accuracy and speed. This study includes a comparative analysis of several algorithms like SSD, Mask R-CNN, and Fast R-CNN, underscoring YOLOv9's superior performance. This paper serves as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners, guiding future efforts in weed management and precision agriculture by emphasizing YOLOv9's transformative potential. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing resolution of PolSAR images makes it challenging to achieve satisfactory land cover classification performance with a single feature. Existing research considers combining multiple features to integrate polarimetric and multi-modal information from images, thereby better representing the diversity of land cover. Nevertheless, in the process of extracting multimodal information, the challenges of dimensionality disaster and dynamic range discrepancies persist, and how to effectively eliminate redundant information while preserving higher-order correlations among features remains a significant research challenge. This paper proposes a PolSAR land cover classification framework based on a global membership tensor, which avoids the dimensionality disaster and dynamic range difference issues by concatenating the pre-classified membership matrices, and utilizes Tucker decomposition to extract higher-order correlation information embedded in the tensor structure of the global membership tensor for final land cover classification. Experiments are carried out on the multi-frequency Hainan dataset acquired by the Aerospace Information Research institute Chinese Academy of Sciences (AIRCAS). The experimental results indicate that the proposed classification framework based on global membership tensors successfully integrates polarimetric and texture features for effective land cover classification. © 2024 IEEE.

This analysis introduces a system for automated identification of fish species and classification based on deep learning. This system can provide valuable insights to marine biologists, with better understanding on fish species habitats. The developed system relies on deep learning neural networks (DNNs) to extract features from underwater images and classify fish into different species. Classifying underwater images of fish species is crucial for conducting fish surveys, maintaining ecological balance, monitoring populations, and conserving endangered species. Yet, it proves challenging due to optical obstacles like smattering and raptness in ocean water, leading to dark and low images. This research delves into the application of deep learning in diverse aquatic tasks, encompassing fish identification, classification, feeding decisions and behavior analysis, estimation of its size, and quality of water prediction. Using a sizable labeled dataset from Kaggle, the proposed system employs a hierarchical CNN classification approach, achieving notable recognition rates and accuracy. The study highlights the efficacy of deep learning in fish species classification, emphasizing its automatic feature extraction capability, and removing the necessity for labor-intensive manual work when engineering features. Furthermore, the advantage of deep learning models lies in their capacity to attain high accuracy with extensive datasets, exemplified by the successful training on the Kaggle dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Ultradense low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite-terrestrial network (ULSN) has evolved as a new paradigm to provide ubiquitous and high-capacity communications in next generation wireless networks. However, the direct LEO satellite broadband connectivity faces significant challenges in urban environments due to the masking effect, which limits the reliability and availability of communication links in ULSNs. To address this, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is emerging as a promising solution in ULSNs. In this article, we investigate RIS-aided downlink data transmission in urban environments of multiusers in ULSNs. We set up a mixed-integer programming (MIP) model for maximizing the sum rate of terrestrial users in ULSNs. To solve the complex MIP problem, we propose a two-phase joint optimization algorithm with a deep learning phase and an alternative optimization (AO) phase. In the deep learning phase, a deep neural network (DNN) algorithm is employed to obtain the optimal user association matrix based on the positions of terrestrial users and LEO satellites. Then in the AO phase, successive convex approximation is utilized to transform the nonconvex subproblems of beamforming and RIS phase design into convex formulations and iteratively solve them. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other baseline algorithms. © 2014 IEEE.

Linear increase in population which results in overcrowding has become an unavoidable element in any public gathering. Public safety under such condition has become a very vital problem in areas like streets, malls and railway stations during weekends, festive seasons, holidays, concerts, etc., normally or in any pandemic situation. The massive disasters that can occur includes numerous instances of fatality where people gather in form of throng. In present time, surveillance cameras are deployed to maintain peace, security and manage crowd, as surveillance videos for proper analysis of crowd activities is an important issue for communal harmony and security;however, some major limitations in video surveillance system are that includes picture getting blurred, peculiarities among person cannot be identified automatically with respect to surroundings during live video streaming, along with that to save the information a lot of storage spaces is also required and hence it becomes costly to run and maintain. The present study proposes a method that is based on principle of Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and OpenCV that efficiently keeps in track count of the people in the scene which helps in efficient crowd management. OpenCV-based method used for crowd estimation written in Python used in this study in order to count the number of heads in live streaming and helps in crowd management according to requirement in an economical way. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

A Beam-Switching Planar Antenna Module with 360◦ In-Plane Coverage for Drone Collision Avoidance Radar

A fully planar and circular beam-switching antenna module with 360◦ in-plane coverage is proposed for collision avoidance radar payload of drones. It consists of a novel dual-mode single-pole-multi-throw switch, a proposed circular beamforming network (CBFN), one-bit phase shifters, and quasi-Yagi antennas. The switch can redirect the input power to any one of the output ports (single-ON mode) or any two adjacent output ports (dual-ON mode). Owing to these two modes, the total beam number doubles. The CBFN is constructed by arranging the modified sub-matrices (MSMs) side-by-side into a circle with adjacent MSMs sharing their edge components (ECs). The MSMs are binomial power dividers with the ECs replaced by three-way power dividers. The ECs can split the power from the switch into adjacent MSMs and the EC at the following stage. For verification, a 12-beam prototype module designed at 5.8 GHz was fabricated and tested. Besides the agreement between the simulated and measured results, the 12 beam patterns exhibit highly similar shapes with sidelobe level ◦ half-power beamwidths of the 12 beam patterns altogether cover the entire horizontal plane with minimal overlaps. Wireless sensor network (WSN) is one of the essential components of a multi-hop cyber-physical system comprising many fixed or moving sensors. There are many common attacks in WSN, which can quickly harm a WSN system. In this manuscript, Dual Interactive Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network (DIWGAN) with war strategy optimization (WSO) algorithm is introduced for detecting intrusion in WSN. Initially, the input data is attained from the NSL-KDD and CICIDS2017 datasets. The data is then passed onto Morphological filtering and Extended Empirical wavelet transformation (MFEEWT) based pre-processing. After that, the filtered data is sent to the DIWGAN, which detects the intrusion and classifies the fraud data in the network. Additionally, the WSO algorithm is introduced to enhance the classification parameters of DIWGAN. By then the performance of the proposed DIWGAN-WSO-IDS methodology is evaluated using Python Platform. Also, the performance of the proposed methodology is calculated using various metrics like accuracy, precision, recall, f-measure, mean square error, and attack detection rate. Thus, the proposed technique has attained 29.87%, 31.7%, and 26.8% higher accuracy, 23.54%, 20.09%, and 26.98% higher recall, 12.76%, 10.96%, and 6.7% higher precision. And 6.85%, 4.56%, and 8.56% lower MSE than the existing techniques like BFSGSRF, MHICA-SSA, and CNN-LSTM methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

This article presents the generations of multiple orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes in a spiral antenna array configuration. The feeds to the antenna elements are produced from a Fisheye-lens-based beamforming circuit (FL-BFC), where relatively linear phase variations of different slopes are generated. By selecting proper slope values, the feeding to planar circular arrays results in orthogonal OAM modes. In addition, selecting proper output port positions on the circumference of the FL-beamforming network (BFN) may produce phases to excite the antenna array in various configurations to reduce the nulling regions of radiation by different OAM modes. This article presents the characteristics of FL-BFC in its implementation to excite a planar array of antennas for OAM mode radiations. The orthogonality characteristics are quantized using an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) for accounting for the mutual interaction. An orthogonalization procedure is also examined to obtain the orthogonal OAM modes. The radiation characteristics are compared to demonstrate the feasibility. Both full-wave simulation and measurement results are shown to validate the design concept. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
