The main object of this study is to systematically review existing research on energy efficiency of embedded systems in order to identify investigated aspects and needs for future research. We have conducted a systematic mapping study of the state-of-the-art on energy efficiency of embedded systems. 186 papers have been identified as primary studies from year 1994 to 2011 and classified by research focus, research type, and contribution type. 71% of the research papers are solutions proposals;power estimation is the most investigated aspect in terms of research focus (34%) and majority of the studies contributed in terms of methods. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In the paper we show a new three-stage algorithm identifying the Hammerstein system nonlinearity. The algorithm is designed to work when a poor a priori knowledge is available and when the measurement data set is small. In the first stage, a deconvolution routine is applied to output signal in order to diminish a (usually) harmful influence of the linear dynamic component. Such filtered output is then used in a standard nonparametric estimate (be it kernel or orthogonal series one) to recover the unknown characteristics. Finally, the results of nonparametric estimation are used in the algorithm selecting the best parametric model. The entire proposed approach is illustrated by the simulation example. © 2012 IEEE.

An object tracking algorithm based on SURF is presented in this *** points are detected by SURF detector in reference region which is located in the first frame *** the following sequences,the SURF feature points are extracted in a larger window which is selected as test *** the matching stage,we calculate the Euclidean distance between the descriptor vectors of interest points in the test image and ones in the reference *** proposed algorithm is implemented on an embedded platform with TI's DM6446 high performance *** experimental results show that our system implements a real-time tracking with robustness against appearance variations,scale change,and cluttered scenes.

The paper shows several methods employed in a semi-automatic pipeline for 3D surface reconstruction of anatomic shapes from Computed Tomography scans. Main benefits of the approach are very little human involvement and high processing speed, while maintaining high reconstruction accuracy. Several filtering methods are described that make contour segmentation easier. Further improvements of the algorithm are proposed. © 2012 IEEE.

BTT(Bank-to-Turn) vehicle is a kind of typical nonlinear system which has parametric uncertainty and heavy exogenous disturbance. This paper presents a partial linearization method use of robust guaranteed cost control techniques for the design and analysis of BTT vehicle control laws to make the model closer to the actual system. Considering the practical model of BTT vehicle, we employed partial linearization rather than complete linearization in system modeling, in order to prevent the system errors caused by low accuracy in complete linearization. Under the circumstance of satisfying Lipschitz conditions, Lyapunov function was employed to get the sufficient condition for the robust control law of the BTT vehicle system to exist, and transformed into a feasible solution with linear matrix inequalities method. The numerical simulation results show the algorithm can makes up the characteristic distortion of nonlinear system for excessive simplification model, so that the designed control law becomes more reasonable and effective. © 2012 Huazhong Univ of Sci & Tec.

Distributed generation (DG) of power has played an ever-increasing role in a smart power system, often termed as a smart grid. Their use can, however, cause more risk to the entire system since their power outputs are often affected by uncontrollable environments, e.g., weather. Power flow problems as a nonlinear optimization one become much more challenging when one or more distributed generators fail to achieve their desired performance levels. This work formulates a particle swarm optimization method to solve them by considering controllable and uncontrollable distributed generators in a smart grid. Such a method is often sensitive to the initialization conditions and weighting factors. This work presents several typical different initialization strategies and decides the most suitable weighting factors. They are comprehensively investigated via an IEEE 14-bus system subject to the failure of uncontrollable distributed generators. © 2012 Intl Jrnal Advanced Mech.

when recognizing partially visible objects in a scene, a good global decision should be made based on locally gathered features for their recognition, since global information is corrupted. This local to global nature of occlusion recognition leads us to spectral matching technique. Unfortunately, spectral matching algorithms are not desirable for noisy data set from cluttered scene. In this paper, a top- down procedure is introduced into spectral matching for the recognition of occluded objects. Based on the two-stage strategy, both appearance and geometric information are taken into consideration. It is shown that the improvement has been made for spectral algorithms to recognize occluded objects.

The subject matter of the paper refers to the improvement of the acoustic emission (AE) method used in diagnostics of insulation systems of electric power devices. During measurements of the AE pulses that are generated by partial discharges (PDs) in the insulation of electric power devices, there appear diverse kinds of interfering signals. These disturbances, occurring during measurements in laboratory as well as under industrial conditions, can be generated by sources placed inside the electric power device under study or/and by sources emitting in its surrounding. The sources mentioned can be physical phenomena of mechanical, electric or acoustic nature. If the disturbances appear at the same time during measurements as the AE pulses generated by PDs this can cause deformation of the gathered time-runs. This can have direct influence on the proper interpretation of the measurement results obtained by use of the AE method. Hence, the necessity of the influence estimation of the interfering signals on the by PDs generated AE pulses time-runs. The performed research works consider the following issues: The measurements and analysis of the acoustic disturbances generated by corona discharges in the overhead electric power transmission line.
