The Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) are a system that provides an efficient learning environment by assigning questions that are suitable to the learner's skill state. To improve the performance of ITSs, conventional studies have proposed student models that can estimate skill states with high accuracy. However, these models were based on the assumption that the log data was correct. In other words, they do not take into account the possibility of students cheating or memorizing answers, assuming that the test was conducted fairly and impartially. In recent years, many examinations have been conducted online as a countermeasure against COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections, and students may be able to obtain hints for the examinations using the internet or books. In this way, it is important to know how students approach learning in order to estimate their skill state. In this study, we propose a method for estimating the latent state of learners using a model that combines Knowledge Tracing, the de-facto standard for student modeling method, and Item Response Theory. © 2022 The Authors. Relying on direct and converse piezoelectric effects,piezo-acoustic backscatter(PAB)technology reflects ambient acoustic signals to enable underwater backscatter communications at near-zero power,which was first realized through a *** this paper,we propose a mathematical model of the PAB assisted underwater acoustic(UWA)communication,and address the sparse channel estimation ***,we present a five-stage backscatter process to derive the backscatter coefficient,and propose the channel model for the shallow-water ***,we formulate the shallow-water acoustic channel estimation problem as a sparse vector recovery one according to the compressed sensing theory,and leverage the orthogonal matching pursuit(OMP)algorithm to obtain the channel ***,simulation results are provided to corroborate our proposed studies.

Assembly in future smart factories needs to address three challenges, including human centricity, sustainability, and resilience. Conventional approaches for automation in assembly have reached a bottleneck in terms of operation automomy, leaving various tasks to continued manual labour by human operators. To ease the burden on humans both physically and intellectually, human-centric assembly enhanced by augmented robots, cognitive systems, mixed reality and collaborative intelligence, assisted by thought-driven brain robotic controls, provides a promising solution. Within the context, this keynote provides an in-depth analysis of the state of human-centric assembly and identifies potentially fruitful research directions in future smart factories. © 2025 The Author(s)

We consider prophet inequalities under downward-closed constraints. In this problem, a decision-maker makes immediate and irrevocable choices on arriving elements, subject to constraints. Traditionally, performance is compared to the expected offline optimum, called the Ratio of Expectations (RoE ). However, RoE has limitations as it only guarantees the average performance compared to the optimum, and might perform poorly against the realized ex-post optimal value. We study an alternative performance measure, the Expected Ratio (EoR ), namely the expectation of the ratio between algorithm’s and prophet’s value. EoR offers robust guarantees, e.g., a constant EoR implies achieving a constant fraction of the offline optimum with constant probability. For the special case of single-choice problems the EoR coincides with the well-studied notion of probability of selecting the maximum. However, the EoR naturally generalizes the probability of selecting the maximum for combinatorial constraints, which are the main focus of this paper. Specifically, we establish two reductions: for every constraint, RoE and the EoR are at most a constant factor apart. Additionally, we show that the EoR is a stronger benchmark than the RoE in that, for every instance (constraint and distribution), the RoE is at least a constant fraction of the EoR, but not vice versa. Both these reductions imply a wealth of EoR results in multiple settings where RoE results are known. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In planar pursuit-evasion differential games considering a faster pursuer and slower evader, the interception points resulting from equilibrium strategies lie on the Apollonius circle. This property is instrumental for leveraging geometric approaches for solving multiple pursuit-evasion scenarios in the plane. Here, we study a pursuit-evasion differential game on a sphere and generalize the planar Apollonius set to the spherical domain. We find that the interception point from the equilibrium strategies can leave the Apollonius set boundary and present a condition to keep the intercept point on the boundary. This condition allows for generalizing planar pursuitevasion strategies to the sphere. © 2024 IEEE.

High Efficiency Wiener Filter-based Point Cloud Quality Enhancement for MPEG G-PCC

Point clouds, which directly record the geometry and attributes of scenes or objects by a large number of points, are widely used in various applications such as virtual reality and immersive communication. However, due to the huge data volume and unstructured geometry, efficient compression of point clouds is very crucial. The Moving Picture Expert Group is establishing a geometry-based point cloud compression (G-PCC) standard for both static and dynamic point clouds in recent years. Although lossy compression of G-PCC can achieve a very high compression ratio, the reconstruction quality is relatively low, especially at low bitrates. To mitigate this problem, we propose a high efficiency Wiener filter that can be integrated into the encoder and decoder pipeline of G-PCC to improve the reconstruction quality as well as the rate-distortion performance for dynamic point clouds. Specifically, we first propose a basic Wiener filter, and then improve it by introducing coefficients inheritance and variance-based point classification for the Luma component. Besides, to reduce the complexity of the nearest neighbor search during the application of the Wiener filter, we also propose a Morton code-based fast nearest neighbor search algorithm for efficient calculation of filter coefficients. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve average Bjøntegaard delta rates of -6.1%, -7.3%, and -8.0% for Luma, Chroma Cb, and Chroma Cr components, respectively, under the condition of lossless-geometry-lossy-attributes configuration compared to the latest G-PCC encoding platform (i.e., geometry-based solid content test model version 7.0 release candidate 2) by consuming affordable computational complexity. © 2025, CC BY.

This research involves the description of the newly developed acoustic communication system that can improve high data rates in the underwater channel. The problems in the conventional underwater communication techniques are being solved in the proposed system with the help of integrating the latest modulation techniques, effective transducers, and signal processing algorithms. The effectiveness of the system in achieving studies details high data rates and reasonable signal integrity and flexibility to unfavorable underwater environments during simulations and field trials. The simulated studies point to a maximum of 500kbps and practical trials a maximum of 480 kbps plus higher energy efficiency than regular systems. It still suggests that there is a need to continue with the improvements on all these areas of system performance since the system was design for varied depths and water types though there is an indication that the system performance declines in turbulent conditions. They are beneficial to develop and improve the underwater communication techniques meant to have a positive impact on technological applications such as underwater robotics, environmental and oceanographic surveys. Hence, the successful implementation of this system can be regarded as a major breakthrough towards the resolution of the problems that arise with high-speed data transmission in undersea environment. © 2024 IEEE.

At present, the combination of intelligent robots and medical surgery has become a trend. Considering the requirements of high motion accuracy and good safety of robot in minimally invasive surgery, and in order to give full play to the advantages of strong artificial initiative, this article combines the advantages of robots and humans and uses camera information to locate and design a knee joint replacement surgery robot system based on STM32, which is used for the safe surgical tasks of knee joint replacement. This system is composed of STM32 embedded micro-controller, camera, permanent magnet synchronous motor, torque sensor, harmonic reducer, etc., using joint torque sensor and a harmonic reducer to realize the flexible control of the robotic arm;using inverse kinematics combined with B-spline algorithm solves the problem of unsmooth motion trajectory, speed, and acceleration of the robotic arm. It uses the camera to dynamically collect data, and then combines the human-computer interface to control the robot. The end of the robot uses position-based impedance control to realize the safe area control of the surgical process. The simulation results show that the robot system has a friendly human-computer interaction interface convenient for users. The impedance control simulation realizes the adjustable and controllable end position accuracy. The robot movement process is smooth and continuous, which meets the requirements of minimally invasive surgery accuracy and safety. The simulation results show that the human-machine interaction interface of the robot system is friendly, and the user is convenient to use. The simulation of impedance control realizes the adjustable and controllable precision of the end position, and the movement process of the robot is stable and continuous, which meets the requirements of precision and safety of minimally invasive surgery, and has an excellent guiding significance for the realization of minimally invasive surgery. © 2021 I

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a lung disease causing hundred thousand of death each year worldwide and defined as a respiratory and airflow impairment majorly due to large and small airways dysfunctions. COPD could be considered as a syndrome that includes disease axes of variable pathological and clinical conditions. Despite recent advances, the comprehension of the molecular mechanisms responsible for COPD disease spectrum is far to be reached. Moreover, we should also consider continuous smoking exposure, which could lead to variability in the disease mechanisms and progression. Network-based multi-omics data integration can help to study the association between molecular determinants on diverse biomolecular layers in a disease context. In a previous study, we leveraged lung RNA-seq and DNA-methylation data of a COPD-control cohort to build a correlation-based integrated network (called coupled network), that helped to unveil genes involved in immune and inflammatory modulation of COPD. Therefore, in our previous study we highlighted the most important genes of the coupled network and inspected their single contribution to disease-related pathways. In this study we aim to overcome this limitation by performing a pathway activity analysis by considering the expression and DNA methylation profiles of coupled network genes. Moreover, we exploit this analysis to study the possible contribution of coupled network genes to the differential disease progression between current and former smokers patients.

Nowadays, manufacturing companies face more difficulties than ever. Unrest in global supply chains triggered by fluctuating customer demand, raw material shortages and crises (Covid pandemic, global warming, wars) complicate the utilization of production resources necessary for economic success. Also, the rapidly changing environment causes existing production plans to be adapted, which results in order changes, causing additional costs for manufacturers. One solution to cope with these problems is cooperation and sharing resources: requesting capacity from partners when having shortages and offering them temporarily in case of excess capacity. In this paper, a platform-based resource sharing mechanism is investigated from the economic perspective. In the mechanism, requests and offers are matched by a central platform applying a complex matching logic. The platform provides valid alternatives based on the incoming ordersthat the requesting company can choose from. Companies are rating each other's performance after each interaction based on delivery accuracy;choosing between resource offers is made based on the cumulated rating about the offeror and the price of the offer. Within this paper, the aim is to investigate the resource sharing mechanism from the economic point of view based on an approach to the responsiveness of a supply chain structure to turbulence, to support decision-makers trying to cope with unexpected changes. For this purpose, here the mechanism is briefly introduced, and basic concepts about turbulences in supply chains are also presented. Cost types related to resource sharing manufacturing companies are distinguished, and the model is validated with agent-based simulation. A simulation experiment is performed to investigate the use-case of outsourced jobs having different price levels. Based on the experiment, it can be concluded that there is a price level limit in such a resource sharing federation, under which it is worth it to collaborate
