With the explosive increase of User Generated Content (UGC), UGC video quality assessment (VQA) becomes more and more important for improving users’ Quality of Experience (QoE). However, most existing UGC VQA studies only focus on the visual distortions of videos, ignoring that the user’s QoE also depends on the accompanying audio signals. In this paper, we conduct the first study to address the problem of UGC audio and video quality assessment (AVQA). Specifically, we construct the first UGC AVQA database named the SJTU-UAV database, which includes 520 in-the-wild UGC audio and video (A/V) sequences, and conduct a user study to obtain the mean opinion scores of the A/V sequences. The content of the SJTU-UAV database is then analyzed from both the audio and video aspects to show the database characteristics. We also design a family of AVQA models, which fuse the popular VQA methods and audio features via support vector regressor (SVR). We validate the effectiveness of the proposed models on the three databases. The experimental results show that with the help of audio signals, the VQA models can evaluate the perceptual quality more accurately. The database will be released to facilitate further research. Anemia, characterized by a deficiency in red blood corpuscles or hemoglobin, poses a significant global health challenge, particularly affecting vulnerable populations. Traditional diagnostic methods often involve invasive procedures, posing challenges in resource-limited settings. This study aims to explore non-invasive anemia detection using fingernail images and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) as a promising alternative to conventional diagnostic approaches. The study utilizes a dataset of fingernail images collected from hospitals in Ghana, comprising both anemic and non-anemic cases. The dataset undergoes preprocessing, including selective enhancement of red components, conversion to the CIELAB color space, and feature extraction. A multi-input Deep Neural Network (DNN) framework employing pre-trained CNNs is proposed for anemia classification. The pre-trained CNN architectures include EfficientNet B1, EfficientNet B4, and MobileNet V3. The framework’s performance was assessed using two methodologies: The first involved random shuffling of the dataset, followed by division into training, testing, and validation sets, with evaluation metrics including Accuracy, Precision, F1 scores, and a Confusion Matrix. The second employed five-fold cross-validation, measured using accuracy. The evaluation of the proposed DNN framework using both of the methodologies indicates that EfficientNet B4 achieved the highest testing accuracy (97.87%), precision (97.88%), recall (97.87%), and F1 score (97.88%) and a cross-validation accuracy of 97.37% for the first and second methodologies respectively making it best fit for the proposed DNN framework. The findings demonstrate that the proposed framework yields promising results, especially under the second approach, and opens avenues for further exploration in transfer learning, fine-tuning of deep neural networks for multi-input feature integration, and cross-validation.

Martian outflow channels are extensive, long features on the planet's surface, running for thousands of kilometers and up to a kilometer deep. Scientific consensus attributes the formation of Martian outflow channels to catastrophic floods from overflowing lakes during Mars' early history. However, we present an alternative perspective, suggesting the possibility of past glacier ice streams on Mars, influenced by recent scientific studies indicating movements in Amazonian ice streams as potential carvers of Martian outflow channels. The paper proposes a hypothesis of a past cryosphere on Mars resulting in ice stream outflow channels. The study compares and analyzes Martian outflow channels and Himalayan glaciers using a novel remote sensing image processing workflow developed to support this proposed idea. The methodology involves topographic correction to normalize radiance measurements in uneven terrain, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to extract maximum variance information, and feature matching using Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) with Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC) outlier removal to assign Feature Similarity Metric (FSM) scores for determining analogous sites. The paper highlights intriguing observations from Himalayan glaciers, which lend credence to the idea of an ice flow mechanism for the origin of Martian outflow channels.

Riparian Vegetation monitoring using remote sensing images involves using satellite or aerial imagery to assess the health, extent, and changes in vegetation along water bodies such as rivers and streams. This monitoring is important to balance the aquatic ecosystems. The paper presents a novel methodology to detect Riparian Vegetation change dynamics using multi-temporal satellite imagery. The workflow performs the image pre-processing task that includes multi-temporal image registration, top-of-atmosphere reflectance computation, and NDVI geophysical parameters retrieved to quantify the amount and health of vegetation in a Riparian zone buffer. The changes in Riparian Vegetation are detected using the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence technique and a change detection map is generated. The proposed approach is evaluated using recent INS-2B Nano-MX and historical IRS-1C LISS-3 imagery near Sabarmati River, Gandhinagar, India. It is found from the visual assessment that there is an increase in healthy Riparian Vegetation around the Sabarmati River. The results are cross-validated with Landsat NDVI time series analysis in the Riparian Vegetation Region of Interest (ROI) for the last two decades and it is found that vegetation change estimated around the river stream closely follows the trend with the proposed method.

Interactive medical image segmentation methods have become increasingly popular in recent years. These methods combine manual labeling and automatic segmentation, reducing the workload of annotation while maintaining high accuracy. However, most current interactive segmentation frameworks are limited to 2D image data, and are not suitable for 3D image data due to the large size and high complexity of 3D data, as well as the challenges posed by information asymmetry and sparse annotation. In this paper, we propose SliceProp, an interactive segmentation framework that implements slice-wise Label Bidirectional Propagation (LBP) for 3D medical image segmentation. SliceProp extends the interactive 2D image segmentation algorithm to 3D image segmentation, and can handle 3D data with large size and high complexity. Moreover, equipped with a Backtracking Feedback Check (BFC) module, SliceProp effectively addresses the issues of information asymmetry and spatial sparse annotation in 3D medical image segmentation. Additionally, we adopt an uncertainty-based criterion to pri-oritize the slices to be refined interactively, which enhances the efficiency of the interaction process by enabling the model to focus on the regions with the most unreliable predictions. SliceProp is evaluated on two datasets and achieves promising results compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 IEEE.

A random foam defines a modular rule-based ontology after sampling from a neural or other input-output system. A random foam combines several rule-based systems and averages the systems. It gives a Bayesian posterior over the subsystems. It also gives separate Bayesian posteriors over the rules of each subsystem. The shape of the rules controls how well the random-foam ontology performs in classification and regression. We found that a heterogenous ontology that mixes different rule shapes can perform better than a homogenous ontology based on a single Gaussian or other rule type. Random foams are also universal function approximators. So they can train on a neural black box and act as its explainable proxy system. We prove this uniform approximation theorem for the important case of bump-function random foams with throughput combination. Random foams also measure their output’s uncertainty through the conditional variance. Bump function rules performed better than Cauchy rules at classification while Cauchy rules performed better at regression. Gaussian rules performed best in both classification and regression. A homogeneous Gaussian random foam that trained on a 96.7% accurate neural classifier was itself 95.96% accurate on the MNIST data set. A heterogeneous random foam with two-thirds Gaussian rules and one-third Laplacian rules did better than did the all-Gaussian foam ontology.

In recent years,there are numerous studies on chaotic systems with special equilibrium curves having various shapes such as circle,butterfly,heart and *** paper describes a new 3-D chaotic dynamical system with a capsule-shaped equilibrium *** proposed chaotic system has two quadratic,two cubic and two quartic nonlinear *** is noted that the proposed chaotic system has a hidden attractor since it has an infinite number of equilibrium *** is also established that the proposed chaotic system exhibits multi-stability with two coexisting chaotic attractors for the same parameter values but differential initial states.A detailed bifurcation analysis with respect to variations in the system parameters is portrayed for the new chaotic system with capsule equilibrium *** have shown MATLAB plots to illustrate the capsule equilibrium curve,phase orbits of the new chaotic system,bifurcation diagrams and *** an engineering application,we have proposed a speech cryptosystem with a numerical algorithm,which is based on our novel 3-D chaotic system with a capsule-shaped equilibrium *** proposed speech cryptosystem follows its security evolution and implementation on Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)*** results show that the proposed encryption system utilizes 33%of the FPGA,while the maximum clock frequency is 178.28 MHz.

Four-Dimensional Cone Beam Computed Tomography (4D-CBCT) imaging technology offers enhanced image quality and spatial resolution for intraoperative guidance, facilitating real-time tracking of tumor position changes during radiotherapy. However, this is still a task of great challenges due to insufficient projections at each respiratory phase after phase-sorting, and the image phases reconstructed directly from phase-sorted data are discrete and discontinuous. To generate high-quality 4D-CBCT deformation vector fields (DVFs), this paper leverages the preoperative static prior image to guide intraoperative dynamic sparse-view reconstruction images for reducing anatomical structure differences, ultimately achieving continuous and dynamic 4D-CBCT imaging. In this paper, we propose a Multi-scale Cascaded residual deformable vector field estimation framework based on Cross-attention in Motioncompensated 4D-CBCT reconstruction (MCCM), which combines Multi-Scale Cascaded residual registration network (MSCNet), Cross-Attention Enhanced feature Fusion (CAEF) module and Structure-Enhanced Motion-Compensated (SEMC) module: 1) the MCCM employs a multi-scale cascaded residual network strategy, merging multi-receptive fields and multi-resolution feature maps for large-scale internal changes. 2) the CAEF is embedded into MSC-Net to facilitate effective communication and learning between features and promote the flow of information. 3) the SEMC is developed to reduce artifacts after intraoperative CBCT sparse-view reconstruction, restore global lung motion changes and local details, and enhance structural information through image fusion. The proposed method has been evaluated using simulated and clinical datasets and has shown promising results by comparative experiment. Our approach exhibits significant improvements across various evaluation metrics. © 2024 IEEE.

The Theory of Mind (ToM) is critical for social interactions, enabling individuals to understand and predict others’ mental states. Deficits in ToM, particularly in detecting faux pas, are common among individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Traditional methods for assessing ToM, such as the Faux Pas Recognition Test (FPRT), require significant human involvement, which can limit accessibility and scalability. This study aims to explore how large language model (LLM)powered chatbots, specifically utilizing the LLaMA-3 model, can enhance the assessment of ToM by automating and improving the administration of the FPRT. The methodology involved creating a dual-phase process where the chatbot first assesses user responses and then provides rehabilitative guidance to correct misunderstandings. Additionally, the system employs a scoring mechanism combining automated evaluation with human oversight to ensure accuracy and consistency, with system prompts crafted based on chain-of-thought prompting to enhance the depth and reliability of the assessments. Our findings demonstrate the effectiveness of LLM-powered chatbots in delivering dynamic and supportive ToM assessments, suggesting its potential for broader application for both artificial intelligence and psychological practices. ©2024 IEEE.

We consider the coding problem in the Stiefel manifold with chordal distance. After considering various low-dimensional instances of this problem, we use Rankin's bounds on spherical codes to prove upper bounds on the minimum distance of a Stiefel code, and then we construct several examples of codes that achieve equality in these bounds. © 2024, CC BY.
