Video enhancement has played very important roles in many applications. However, most existing enhancement methods only focus on the spatial quality within a frame while the temporal qualities of the enhanced video are often unguaranteed. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed for video enhancement. The proposed algorithm introduces new temporal constraints and combines them with the spatial constraints such that both the spatial and temporal qualities of the video can be improved. Two strategies are proposed for including the temporal constraints. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, a new abnormal activity detection algorithm is proposed for multi-camera surveillance applications. The proposed algorithm models the entire scene covered by the multi-camera system as a network. In this network, each node corresponds to a segmentation of the entire scene and each edge represents the activity correlation between the corresponding segmentations. Based on this network, the proposed algorithm further models human activities as the signal transmission process in the network. Thus, abnormal activities can be detected if their 'network transmission energy' is obviously larger than the normal case. Compared with the previous methods, the proposed algorithm is more general and is flexible to handle various multi-camera scenarios and configurations. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Prediction of the amino acids that have a catalytic effect on the enzymes is a major stage in appointing the activity of the enzymes and classification. The biological activity of a protein usually depends on the existence of a small number of amino acids. Recently, many algorithms have been proposed in the literature for finding these amino acids which are complex and time consuming. In this paper, we will introduce a new method for predicting the active sites that will use the spatial coordinates and the type of amino acids that contain the active sites. In order to increase the speed we use an approximate graph isomorphism algorithm. Furthermore, this algorithm allows us to find several active sites for a protein and order them according to a RMSD (Root Mean Square Deviation) number which has several applications in biology.

This paper presents a new methodology for objective visual quality assessment with multi-metric fusion (MMF). The current research is motivated by the observation that there is no single metric that gives the best performance scores in all situations. To achieve MMF, we adopt a regression approach. First, we collect a large number of image samples, each of which has a score labeled by human observers and scores associated with different metrics. The new MMF score is set to be the nonlinear combination of multiple metrics with suitable weights obtained by a training process. Furthermore, we divide image distortions into groups and perform regression within each group, which is called “context-dependent MMF” (CD-MMF). One task in CD-MMF is to determine the context automatically, which is achieved by a machine learning approach. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed MMF metric outperforms all existing metrics by a significant margin.

In Positron Emission Tomography (PET), motion due to the cardiac and respiratory cycle causes blurred images. Different approaches for motion correction in PET vary in the general concept (optical flow or image registration) or, e.g., in the discretization of motion. Given our mass-preserving transformation model, we evaluate different motion models in this work: dense displacement field (compute for each voxel an individual displacement) vs. spline transformation (i.e. free-form deformation). Thereby a focus is put on the parametrization of the spline transformations where we optimize the number of spline coefficients and the regularization parameter. We make a quantitative comparison of the motion estimates of the different motion models based on data of the established XCAT software phantom. For both motion models (Displacement Field (DF) and Spline Transformation (ST)) the registration results are evaluated by 1) the total processing time and 2) the Euclidean distance to the ground-truth vectors provided by the XCAT phantom. We found that the spline transformation model is superior to the displacement field strategy in terms of processing time and accuracy.

In traffic monitoring applications, traffic speed is an important parameter of traffic management. The method for traffic speed measurement using video based on Spatio-Temporal (ST) model and frequency domain analysis is proposed in this paper. This method is designed to be able to measure the traffic speed in every pattern of road. The novel of proposed method is unfolding the edge information on ST model and analyse them in frequency domain to determine traffic speed. The proposed method is evaluated by compare with actual speed. The traffic speed is measured accurately 97.1%.

In this paper, we discuss the hybrid capacity region of a generic multicarrier multilayer broadcast and unicast cellular system with independent channel coding over subcarriers. In particular, we analytically derive the capacity region and provide conditions to achieve its boundary. The simulation results show that the hybrid capacity regions are considerably higher than those of the traditional time division multiplexing scheme.

The process of the alternative functioning of the surveillance system has been discussed in this paper along with software implementation at a low cost. A frame subtraction technique has been applied, which projects a moving object in consideration to be in current view, while subtraction of the current and the previous frame image reaches a certain threshold. Auto detect system has been suggested to detect vehicles to consider its performance. Information is processed from the surveillance camera where data will be analyzed and sent to the central processing unit.
