This paper presents a novel approach to consider optimal multi-degree reduction of Bézier curve with G1-continuity. By minimizing the distances between corresponding control points of the two curves through degree raising, optimal approximation is achieved. In contrast to traditional methods, which typically consider the components of the curve separately, we use geometric information on the curve to generate the degree reduction. So positions and tangents are preserved at the two endpoints. For satisfying the solvability condition, we propose another improved algorithm based on regularization terms. Finally, numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithms.

In this paper, we propose a novel free-form deformation (FFD) technique, RDMS-FFD (Rational DMS-FFD), based on rational DMS-spline volumes. RDMS-FFD inherits some good properties of rational DMS-spline volumes and combines more deformation techniques than previous FFD methods in a consistent framework, such as local deformation, control lattice of arbitrary topology, smooth deformation, multiresolution deformation and direct manipulation of deformation. We first introduce the rational DMS-spline volume by directly generalizing the previous results related to DMS-splines. How to generate a tetrahedral domain that approximates the shape of the object to be deformed is also introduced in this paper. Unlike the traditional FFD techniques, we manipulate the vertices of the tetrahedral domain to achieve deformation results. Our system demonstrates that RDMS-FFD is powerful and intuitive in geometric modeling.

Three-dimensional restitution of images with unconventional imaging geometry can be performed in an operational mode using existing commercial analytical plotters without any extra investments in hardware. The paper presents two programme systems developed for the Kern DSR analytical stereo-plotter for mapping with spaceborne stereo-imagery, one for images acquired by the SPOT HRV sensor, the other one for stereo-mensuration of SAR images. Due to the movement of the satellite platforms the software requires appropriate algorithms for the consideration of time-varying orientation parameters like sensor position, sensor attitude or others. The performance of the programme systems is demonstrated with practical results derived from Space Shuttle SIR-B imagery as well as from SPOT images showing realistically achievable accuracies of a few pixels in planimetry.

This paper presents a new kind of uniform spline curve, named trigonometric polynomial B-splines, over space Ω = span{sini,cost, tk-3,tk-4, …,t, 1} of which k is an arbitrary integer larger than or equal to 3. We show that trigonometric polynomial B-spline curves have many similar properties to traditional B-splines. Based on the explicit representation of the curve we have also presented the subdivision formulae for this new kind of curve. Since the new spline can include both polynomial curves and trigonometric curves as special cases without rational form, it can be used as an efficient new model for geometric design in the fields of CAD/CAM.

This paper designs and implements a virtual demonstration system for furniture. First, in order to let users virtually dispose furniture, showing the best effect of furniture in the virtual environment, we model different series of a company's furniture and common houses, and create panoramic pictures and transition videos with 3D Max and imageprocessing tools, realizing walkthrough of the furnished house. Secondly, our system adopts Open Scene Graph(OSG)platform to realize virtual demonstration of the furniture. Users can add?delete and move the 3D furniture in the virtual houses. Third, the system supports furniture demonstration in a real house. Users can import the photos of their own houses, and then dispose the selected furniture on these photos, to see the whole effect of furniture in their own real houses. The experiment result shows that the system makes customers be personally on the scene and can boost up users' purchase desire.

In this paper we consider the limitations of Linear Discriminative Analysis (LDA) when applying it for large-scale problems. Since LDA was originally developed for two-class problems the obtained transformation is sub-optimal if multiple classes are considered. In fact, the separability between the classes is reduced, which decreases the classification power. To overcome this problem several approaches including weighting strategies and mixture models were proposed. But these approaches are complex and computational expensive. Moreover, they were only tested for a small number of classes. In contrast, our approach allows to handle a huge number of classes showing excellent classification performance at low computational costs. The main idea is to split the original data into multiple sub-sets and to compute a single LDA space for each sub-set. Thus, the separability in the obtained subspaces is increased and the overall classification power is improved. Moreover, since smaller matrices have to be handled the computational complexity is reduced for both, training and classification. These benefits are demonstrated on different publicly available datasets. In particular, we consider the task of object recognition, where we can handle up to 1000 classes.
