In this paper, we propose a novel free-form deformation (FFD) technique, RDMS-FFD (Rational DMS-FFD), based on rational DMS-spline volumes. RDMS-FFD inherits some good properties of rational DMS-spline volumes and combines more deformation techniques than previous FFD methods in a consistent framework, such as local deformation, control lattice of arbitrary topology, smooth deformation, multiresolution deformation and direct manipulation of deformation. We first introduce the rational DMS-spline volume by directly generalizing the previous results related to DMS-splines. How to generate a tetrahedral domain that approximates the shape of the object to be deformed is also introduced in this paper. Unlike the traditional FFD techniques, we manipulate the vertices of the tetrahedral domain to achieve deformation results. Our system demonstrates that RDMS-FFD is powerful and intuitive in geometric modeling.

Spline curve and surface play an important role in CAD and computergraphics. In this paper, we propose several extensions of cubic uniform B-spline. Then, we present the extensions of interpolating α-B-spline based on the new B-splines and the singular blending technique. The advantage of the extensions is that they have global and local shape parameters. Furthermore, we also investigate their applications in data interpolation and polygonal shape deformation.

CAD drawings reuse is of great importance in promoting design efficiency and productivity. The ability to retrieve CAD drawings is the core of drawings reuse task. Most of the existing drawings retrieval systems rely only on text descriptions. Due to complexity of visual feature, a little system is based on content. A simplified topological relationship is proposed to describe visual features for dimension reduction. An effective topological relationship vector is constructed by graph spectra. A novel retrieval system based on visual contents, including topological relationships, shape, and directional relationships, is proposed. The experiments show that the proposed approach and system are superior to the text-based and traditional content-based retrieval systems.

A new class of quintic minimal surfaces with two shape parameters was proposed. We proved that the minimal surfaces were isothermal parameter surfaces and harmonic surfaces. The symmetry and the self-intersection properties of the minimal surfaces were studied. We investigated the distributions of Gaussian curvature and hyperbolic points of these minimal surfaces, and analysised the effects of the two shape parameters through graphic examples. The control mesh representations of the minimal surfaces are given by tensor product Bézier surface and triangular Bézier surface. Finally, we presented their application in modeling of tensioned membrane structure. The result not only enriched the theory of minimal surface in differential geometry, but also enhanced the application of minimal surfaces in CAD systems.
