A host-switch graph was originally proposed as a graph that represents a network topology of a computer systems with 1-port host computers and (Formula presented.) -port switches. It has been studied from both theoretical and practical aspects in terms of the diameter, the average shortest path length, and the performance of real applications. In recent high-performance computing systems, however, a host computer is connected to multiple switches by using InfiniBand, NVSwitch, or Omni-Path, and consequently they provide high bandwidths. Since a host-switch graph cannot represent such systems, this article extends a host-switch graph so that it can represent such systems. As a result, a host-switch graph can include multi-ported hosts. Furthermore, we propose to use multi-port hosts for reducing the diameter. We show that the diameter minimization is equivalent to solving the degree diameter problem for bipartite graphs of diameter three. Our experimental results show that we can drastically reduce the diameter as well as increasing the bandwidth and improves performance of MPI applications by up to 162% as compared with networks with single-ported hosts. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The recent severe outbreak of the disease has been linked to the COVID-19 virus. It is essential for healthcare professionals and individuals with the capacity to provide intensive care to offer clear explanations of this situation. To address this issue, the World Health Organization (WHO) has implemented several measures. The National Emergency Telecritical Care Network (NETCCN) has the capability to assess these actions using digital technologies. This section provides a comprehensive explanation of these developments, and NETCCN has put forth a recommendation. Version 2.0 of this digital health data will be made available;it will significantly enhance potential crises in the future. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used in the suggested digital prediction approach to gather past data on the infection. Telemetry, sophisticated maintenance robotics, and monitoring intelligence may all be found with this technology. These may be created to incorporate data relevant to various infections. Health experts will coordinate all of these. To maintain sustained preparedness for emergency catastrophe protection, frequent testing should be conducted. © 2023 IEEE.

Machine learning models may suffer from significant performance degradation when applied to data substantially different from the training data, known as out-of-distribution (OOD) data. One natural choice for unsupervised OOD detection is reconstruction-error (e.g., 3 sigma rule), which has been extensively used for anomaly detection. However, this criterion for OOD detection is problematic because reconstruction errors of some OOD instances can be similar to the training data. To address this problem, we propose a framework that integrates reconstruction errors with the theory of Local Intrinsic Dimensionality (LID) . Specifically, we introduce the use of LID to characterize the data subspaces formed by data samples and their corresponding reconstruction by autoencoders (AEs) as a feature for OOD detection, revealing their localized geometrical properties. The learning histories of a model are realizations of the underlying distance distributions of such data subspaces, the pattern of which can be captured dimensionally by LID, portraying the model learning behavior on samples. The framework incorporates reconstruction loss in combination with LID for greater robustness by providing a global measure in addition to the localized one. Extensive empirical studies validate the feasibility of using LID to characterize learning histories and demonstrate the proposed framework’s effectiveness. © 2021 by SIAM.

Opinion summarization plays a key role in deriving meaningful insights from large-scale online reviews. To make this process more explainable and grounded, we propose a modular approach guided by review aspects (e.g., cleanliness for hotel reviews) which separates the tasks of aspect identification, opinion consolidation, and meta-review synthesis, enabling greater transparency and ease of inspection. We conduct extensive experiments across datasets representing scientific research, business, and product domains. Results show that our method generates more grounded summaries compared to strong baseline models, as verified through automated and human evaluations. Additionally, our modular approach, which incorporates reasoning based on review aspects, produces more informative intermediate outputs than knowledge-agnostic decomposed prompting. These intermediate outputs can also effectively support humans in summarizing opinions from large volumes of reviews. © 2025, CC BY.

Online Hyperparameter Optimization for Class-Incremental Learning

Class-incremental learning (CIL) aims to train a classification model while the number of classes increases phase-by-phase. An inherent challenge of CIL is the stability-plasticity tradeoff, i.e., CIL models should keep stable to retain old knowledge and keep plastic to absorb new knowledge. However, none of the existing CIL models can achieve the optimal tradeoff in different data-receiving settings—where typically the training-from-half (TFH) setting needs more stability, but the training-from-scratch (TFS) needs more plasticity. To this end, we design an online learning method that can adaptively optimize the tradeoff without knowing the setting as a priori. Specifically, we first introduce the key hyperparameters that influence the tradeoff, e.g., knowledge distillation (KD) loss weights, learning rates, and classifier types. Then, we formulate the hyperparameter optimization process as an online Markov Decision Process (MDP) problem and propose a specific algorithm to solve it. We apply local estimated rewards and a classic bandit algorithm Exp3 [4] to address the issues when applying online MDP methods to the CIL protocol. Our method consistently improves top-performing CIL methods in both TFH and TFS settings, e.g., boosting the average accuracy of TFH and TFS by 2.2 percentage points on ImageNet-Full, compared to the state-of-the-art [23]. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

The detection of fake news is a crucial task in today's society, given the widespread use of social media and online platforms. In this study, we investigate the application of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms for the detection of fake news. We consider two different datasets of categorized news articles of various sizes and apply various ML algorithms, along with two methods of text vectorization. Specifically, we examine Bag of Words and Tf-Idf, with the use of stemming and with different n-gram values. The resulting vectors are processed by Naive Bayes algorithms, Linear algorithms, Support Vector Machines, and Random Forest classifiers. F1-score and computational time for each algorithm-vectorization combination were recorded. Our results have shown that Linear Algorithms and Support Vector Machines combined with Tf-Idf vectors and n-gram value of (1,2) produced the highest accuracies, with an F1-score up to 96.8%. © 2023 IEEE.

3D city models are an important cornerstone in the development of digital twin cities, allowing for various analyses and simulations. CityGML, as an open standard for 3D city models, emphasizes five main aspects: scale or level of detail (LoD), semantics, geometry, topology, and appearance. One of the important elements in CityGML 3D city models is representation of vegetation. Vegetation in CityGML, especially individual trees, is still limited in terms of detail and resolution, reducing its effectiveness for specific applications. This paper proposes a graph-based conceptual model for individual trees that conforms to the CityGML v2.0 specification. The model refers to the morphological structure of a tree consisting of roots, trunk, and crown (including branches, twigs, and leaves), and considers the five main aspects of CityGML. By enhancing semantic information and geometric details, the model aims to provide an information-rich and realistic representation of individual trees in a 3D city environment. The 3D tree model created based on this conceptual model may be applicable in the development of digital twin urban forests and virtual forest simulations that utilize immersive technologies such as the metaverse. This research opens up new opportunities in the development of solitary vegetation objects through CityGML ADE by including more detailed semantic and topological information. © Author(s) 2024.
