A spectral small-gain condition for input-to-state stability of infinite networks

This paper presents a tight small-gain theorem for networks composed of infinitely many finite-dimensional subsystems. Assuming that each subsystem is exponentially input-to-state stable, we show that if the gain operator, collecting all the information about the internal Lyapunov gains, has a spectral radius less than one, the overall infinite network is exponentially input-to-state stable. We illustrate the effectiveness of our result by applying it to traffic networks.

Due to the development of industry, there are different levels of heavy metal pollution in domestic waters, and the treatment of heavy metal pollution is also imminent. As a hot plant for phytoremediation, Leersia hexandra Swartz has a good effect on remediation of chromium, copper and nickel polluted water. The highest removal rates of chromium, copper and nickel are 100%, 93.8% and 89.3% respectively. Leersia hexandra Swartz also has good enrichment characteristics of chromium, copper and nickel in heavy metal contaminated soil. In the soil containing chromium, copper and nickel, Leersia hexandra Swartz can grow normally and has strong tolerance to high concentration of heavy metal contaminated soil, which indicates that Leersia hexandra Swartz has certain research value in the field of remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil or water. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

For Gaussian approximation recursive filter (GASF) framework, the same information is used for the correction at two adjacent epochs. To reduce the complexity of processing and ensure the accuracy of the algorithm, in this paper, for nonlinear system with randomly delayed measurements and synchronizttion correlated noises, we present a fast federated Kalman filtering algorithm, where an innovation technique is used. To deal with multi-sensor measurements, a new coefficient allocation method is used to reconstruct the fusion innovation sequence. Then, a federated filtering algorithm is derived based on the optimal information sharing coefficient. Finally, we state the superiority of the algorithm in this paper.

Electro-Sorption Technology (EST) is also known as Capacitive Deionization (CDI). It originated in the late 1990s. Electro-Sorption desalination technology is a new water treatment technology that uses the phenomenon of ions and charged particles adsorbed on the surface of charged electrode to enrich and concentrate dissolved salts and other charged substances in the water on the surface of electrode to realize water purification/desalination. As a new water treatment technology, Electro-Sorption technology (EST) has the characteristics of low inlet water quality, reliable operation, low energy consumption, convenient operation, high water yield and low comprehensive operation cost. The electrode material with high activity is the key to obtain its high performance. According to different water quality conditions, the electrode material which is good for ion adsorption in solution should be studied. The application of this low-energy water purification technology in real life has become a new research hotspot. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A major challenge in automated driving is to understand what the perception system detects with its various sensors and map it to meaningful behavior. In situation interpretation one of the tasks is to capture patterns in the motion of surrounding vehicles to estimate their future behavior for safely master driving. One basic approach to estimate this future behavior is to predict whether a vehicle is going to perform a lane change or not. Different methods exist to predict lane change maneuvers. Here, the focus is on the domain of machine learning, such as neural networks or support vector machines. Since the systems are trained in a supervised fashion, ground truth information for the learning algorithm is needed. While manual labeling by human experts is time-consuming, expensive, and subjective, an automatic generation of the labels is desired. This paper investigates different methods of providing labels for the lane change prediction task automatically. Further, the focus is on optimizing the labeling strategy to prevent contradicting labels. Additionally, the interactions between different labeling methods and the imbalanced learning issue is discussed based on experimental results.

This work solves the bearing-only formation control problem for two agents with limited field-of-view sensing. We propose a bearing-only control strategy for both the position and heading of each agent that guarantees the desired formation is obtained from almost all initial conditions, and ensures that the agents always remain inside the field-of-view of the sensor. We support our analysis with simulations and explore an extension for the 3- and 4-agent case. © 2018

PM2.5 pollution variations in different microenvironments would result in PM2.5 exposure inequity between rural and urban residents. In this study, the real-time PM2.5 exposure of urban and rural residents in China were examined based on portable PM2.5 sensors together with activity patterns derived from questionnaire surveys, with the foci on students and senior citizens who are sensitive to air pollution. The results showed that PM2.5 exposure varied significantly among different resident groups, with the highest among rural students during holidays (61.96 ± 55.02 μg/m3), and the lowest among urban senior citizens (24.43 ± 12.35 μg/m3). PM2.5 exposure peaks mostly occurred during (accompanied) cooking activities owing to strong emissions. Sleeping and resting were main activities that affect PM2.5 exposures of different resident groups, accounting for 60.7~94.5% of total daily exposures. Furthermore, sleeping contributed predominately to PM2.5 exposure inequity between rural and urban residents. This study firstly quantified the PM2.5 exposure inequality based on a novel method and can provide useful information for further studies on the exposure inequity. © 2024, The Authors. On an exact solution to the nonlinear heat equation with a source

The paper is devoted to the study of a singular nonlinear second-order parabolic equation, which is called the porous medium equation or the nonlinear heat equation. One of the important classes of its solutions is heat waves propagating over a zero background with a finite velocity. This property is not typical for parabolic equations and is a consequence of singularity. The main object of study is exact solutions of mentioned type. A new way of separating variables is used to represent them. We obtain conditions when it is possible to make a reduction to the Cauchy problem for an ordinary second-order differential equation with a singularity. It is shown that the Cauchy problem describes a heat wave whose front moves exponentially. We construct a solution to the Cauchy problem as a power series and determine the cases when the series breaks off, i.e. the solution has the form of a polynomial, and the corresponding heat wave can be written explicitly. If the Cauchy problem cannot be explicitly integrated, the solution is constructed numerically. An algorithm based on the boundary element method is proposed. We perform a computational experiment and conclude the properties of the found solutions. Besides, the accuracy of the calculation results is analyzed.

In this work, the control of snake robot locomotion via economic model predictive control (MPC) is studied. Only very few examples of applications of MPC to snake robots exist and rigorous proofs for recursive feasibility and convergence are missing. We propose an economic MPC algorithm that maximizes the robot's forward velocity and integrates the choice of the gait pattern into the closed loop. We show recursive feasibility of the MPC optimization problem, where some of the developed techniques are also applicable for the analysis of a more general class of system. Besides, we provide performance results and illustrate the achieved performance by numerical simulations. We thereby show that the economic MPC algorithm outperforms a standard lateral undulation controller and achieves constraint satisfaction. Surprisingly, a gait pattern different to lateral undulation results from the optimization. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We consider the problem of estimating the output of an unknown discrete-time linear time-invariant system and identifying a model of the system, where only measurements via a nonlinear dynamic sensor with known dynamics are available. The main result of this paper is a rank-constrained semidefinite program, which provides an equivalent characterization of this identification and estimation problem. This extends existing results from Wiener system identification to the more general case that the nonlinear block exhibits dynamic behavior, which is a commonly found scenario in practical applications. Notably, the result can be applied in the presence of nonlinear sensors with general non-invertible system dynamics. Two examples are used to illustrate the applicability of our approach.
