Potential of A Yogurt Enriched with Synbiotics for Influenza Prevention and Treatment

Probiotics show anti-influenza activity， offering a potential variant-resistant alternative for infection prevention and control. In this study， we evaluated whether a specially formulated yogurt enriched with synbiotics (named yogurt 1 in this study) with seven probiotics and six prebiotics， has anti-influenza effects and its underlying mechanisms using a mouse model challenged with influenza virus H1N1 PR8 strain. The mice were treated with phosphate-buffered saline (negative control)， yogurt matrix， yogurt 1， and oseltamivir (positive control)， respectively. yogurt 1 treatment improved the survival of infected mice (from 0% to 30%)， alleviated pathological injuries in the lungs and colon， and reduced the viral load of influenza virus on days 3 and 7 post-infection. yogurt 1 also downregulated some inflammation-related signaling pathways and reduced the levels of proinflammatory cytokines or chemokines in the lungs or serum， including interleukin (IL)-1β， IL-6， tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and keratinocyte chemoattractant (KC). The levels of short-chain fatty acids in the cecal content were increased， the diversity of the intestinal flora was partially restored， and influenza-specific IgG and interferon-secreting lymphocytes were enhanced following yogurt 1 administration. Thus， yogurt 1， as a commercial and easily accessible dairy product， demonstrated a notable anti-influenza effect in mice by inhibiting viral proliferation， suppressing excessive inflammatory responses， and promoting influenza virus-specific adaptive humoral and cellular immune responses， demonstrating its potential for influenza epidemic prevention and control.

A device capable of producing electricity from wastewater treatment process is highly desirable as it addresses critical challenges in sustainable energy generation and environmental conservation. In this work, a highly efficient three-dimensional (3D) porous network structured In2O3/ZnO/FTO photoanode and a flower-like Cu2O/CuO/Cu cathode were successfully fabricated and integrated into a visible light-driven photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) system. Material characterization revealed that In2O3 was well-dispersed on the 3D porous ZnO network, proving ample active sites for photoelectrocatalysis. The PFC utilizing mariculture effluent containing chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTCH) as a fuel source, achieved an open-circuit voltage of 559 mV and a maximum power density of 0.3084 μW cm−2 under visible light irradiation. Furthermore, the system demonstrated a CTCH removal efficiency of 91.5 %, outperforming ZnO/FTO and In2O3/FTO electrodes in terms of degradation efficacy and energy conversion. Additionally, the cell demonstrated outstanding recyclability and remarkable antimicrobial efficacy against Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus, underscoring its superior functionality. The boosted photoelectrocatalytic activity was credited to the formation of the In2O3/ZnO/FTO heterojunction within the porous network-structure, which provided a high specific surface area and favorable optical and electronic traits and thereby, improving the overall efficiency of the dual photoelectrode system. This PFC device facilitates simultaneous electricity generation, pollutant degradation and bacterial sterilization, offering promising multifunction applications. © 2025 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

Multimodal Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides essential complementary information for analyzing brain tumor subregions. While methods using four common MRI modalities for automatic segmentation have shown success, they often face challenges with missing modalities due to image quality issues, inconsistent protocols, allergic reactions, or cost factors. Thus, developing a segmentation paradigm that handles missing modalities is clinically valuable. A novel single-modality parallel processing network framework based on Hölder divergence and mutual information is introduced. Each modality is independently input into a shared network backbone for parallel processing, preserving unique information. Additionally, a dynamic sharing framework is introduced that adjusts network parameters based on modality availability. A Hölder divergence and mutual information-based loss functions are used for evaluating discrepancies between predictions and labels. Extensive testing on the BraTS 2018 and BraTS 2020 datasets demonstrates that our method outperforms existing techniques in handling missing modalities and validates each component's effectiveness.

LoRD: Adapting Differentiable Driving Policies to Distribution Shifts

Distribution shifts between operational domains can severely affect the performance of learned models in self-driving vehicles (SDVs). While this is a well-established problem, prior work has mostly explored naive solutions such as fine-tuning, focusing on the motion prediction task. In this work, we explore novel adaptation strategies for differentiable autonomy stacks (structured policy) consisting of prediction, planning, and control, perform evaluation in closed-loop, and investigate the often-overlooked issue of catastrophic forgetting. Specifically, we introduce two simple yet effective techniques: a low-rank residual decoder (LoRD) and multi-task fine-tuning. Through experiments across three models conducted on two real-world autonomous driving datasets (nuPlan, exiD), we demonstrate the effectiveness of our methods and highlight a significant performance gap between open-loop and closed-loop evaluation in prior approaches. Our approach improves forgetting by up to 23.33% and the closed-loop out-of-distribution driving score by 9.93% in comparison to standard fine-tuning. https://***/rst-tu-dortmund/LoRD Copyright © 2024, The Authors. The contribution at hand presents a novel flexible matrix headlight modeling approach for rapid prototyping that is not based on ray tracing and focuses on parameters which are meant to be intuitive and interpretable. The model parameters are directly linked to the beam pattern of the headlamp. The model is designed to generate illuminations of arbitrary matrix headlights that contain color information and inhomogeneities, making it possible to virtually prototype headlight design concepts in the pre-development phase of the system. The modeling approach is verified by comparing the generated intensity distribution with a real one of low and high resolution systems currently under development. The model has a mean absolute error of about one percent of the maximum intensity for all tested systems.

The trajectory tracking problem is a fundamental control task in the study of mechanical systems. A key construction in tracking control is the error or difference between an actual and desired trajectory. This construction also lies at the heart of observer design and recent advances in the study of equivariant systems have provided a template for global error construction that exploits the symmetry structure of a group action if such a structure exists. Hamiltonian systems are posed on the cotangent bundle of configuration space of a mechanical system and symmetries for the full cotangent bundle are not commonly used in geometric control theory. In this paper, we propose a group structure on the cotangent bundle of a Lie-group and leverage this to define momentum and configuration errors for trajectory tracking drawing on recent work on equivariant observer design. We show that this error definition leads to error dynamics that are themselves "Euler-Poincare like" and use these to derive simple, almost global trajectory tracking control for fully-actuated Euler-Poincare systems on a Lie-group state space. This paper finds the optimal feedback controller for the discrete time, finite horizon disturbance attenuation problem under bounded disturbances. We consider a linear dynamical system and a quadratic objective function with a resulting nonlinear optimization and optimal nonlinear controller. In the space of initial states, two regions are identified. One region, containing the zero initial state, features the linear optimal $H_{\infty}$ controller, while the other region features nonlinear optimal control, and converges to the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller for large initial states. The transition between the two regions offers a unified framework that spans from $H_{\infty}$ control to LQR control as a function of the relative magnitude of the initial state and the imposed disturbance. This study enhances the versatility of disturbance attenuation feedback controllers and expands on the previous work on the dynamic game theory approach to optimal robust control design.

In the contribution, a model predictive trajectory tracking approach is presented. Due to the utilization of an accurate prediction model, which considers not only the vehicle dynamics but also the limited actuator dynamics, the approach can be used even in emergency collision avoidance systems. The approach explicitly predicts a trajectory set for defined control inputs. Out of the set, the trajectory which is closest to the reference is selected. Two different objective functions are defined, each of them selecting the optimum input variable for trajectory tracking. On the one hand, the selection is based on the predicted position trajectories and, on the other hand, on the speed and yaw rate of the trajectory set. The evaluation is carried out in the simulation with a vehicle model for which different error sources, like sensor errors, sensor noise, and static friction are modeled using data from a real vehicle. In this paper, the bias-policy iteration based optimal control of fully actuated systems is further reconsidered. With the help of the fully actuated property, a more neat bias-PI method for the fully actuated cases is established with the convergence proof. The data-driven implementation for the proposed algorithm is introduced accordingly. A numerical example verifies the effectiveness of the proposed results.
