Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are autonomous ad hoc networks designed and developed for potential applications in monitoring, surveillance, security, etc. The sensor devices that are battery powered should have lifetime of months or years. Therefore, energy efficiency is a crucial design challenge in WSN. In this paper the energy efficient communication techniques, i.e., activity control and power control protocols are presented and discussed. We focus on the implementation of energy aware algorithm for WSN - Geographical Adaptive Fidelity (GAF) - in our testbed network formed by the Maxfor devices. The results of experiments confirm significant energy savings that lead to network lifetime increase.

The paper presents a formal method of specifying complex robotic systems. Although the method is general, here it is applied to the description of two, however diverse, robot behaviours, in which the induced motion was computed on the basis of information retrieved from different cameras: a camera integrated with the robot gripper and a camera statically mounted above the scene. In this paper, the actuators and sensors fault detection and localization using a system model is considered. To obtain the system model, the neural network modeling is used. The artificial feedforward neural network with dynamic neurons in the state-space representation is proposed. To estimate the neural network parameters, the Adaptive Random Search algorithm with projection is used. To identify, which of actuators or sensors is faulty, the system input estimator is proposed. The input and output residuals being the difference between the system input and output and its estimates are used to detect and isolate the faults. The final part of the paper presents an application study, which clearly confirms the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Fibroadenoma is a benign tumor that has some features similar to a malignant one. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of fibroadenoma cases on the results of the automatic breast cancer diagnostic system based on the quantitative morphometric analysis of fine needle biopsy microscopic images. The database of 50 patients (500 images) of benign and malignant lesions used previously in our research was enriched by an additional 25 patients (250 images) of fibroadenoma cases. Experiments were performed using the k-means based hybrid segmentation method. The system was tested on a set of real case medical images with promising results.
