This paper studies a class of perimeter defense problems for large-scale multi-robot systems. A perimeter defense strategy is designed via relative time calculations and maximum matching methods. The strategy is simple, effective, and easy to implement for large-scale perimeter defense problems. Some simulations are made to verify the effectiveness of the strategy. © 2024 IEEE.

The Multiport Autonomous Reconfigurable Solar Power Plant (MARS) is an integrated photovoltaic (PV) power generation and energy storage system (ESS), that is designed to connect to both alternating current (AC) transmission grids and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) links. It is a three-phase plant consisting of numerous components with a complex hardware and hierarchical control architecture. This paper presents an approach to decouple the multivariable system of MARS using a recursive reduced-order and boundary layer system methodology. This approach enables efficient computation of the control parameters for the Ll, L2, and L3 controllers. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, cyclic tests in accordance with pre-defined performance criteria using controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (cHIL) experiments are conducted. The results demonstrate that the MARS system operates consistently under steady-state conditions. Furthermore, the dynamic response of the MARS system to various grid events is analyzed, underlining the resilience of MARS in presence of faults or loss of generation within the connected WECC system. © 2023 IEEE.

The design of an antenna requires a careful selection of its parameters to retain the desired ***,this task is time-consuming when the traditional approaches are employed,which represents a significant *** the other hand,machine learning presents an effective solution to this challenge through a set of regression models that can robustly assist antenna designers to find out the best set of design parameters to achieve the intended *** this paper,we propose a novel approach for accurately predicting the bandwidth of metamaterial *** proposed approach is based on employing the recently emerged guided whale optimization algorithm using adaptive particle swarm optimization to optimize the parameters of the long-short-term memory(LSTM)deep *** optimized network is used to retrieve the metamaterial bandwidth given a set of *** addition,the superiority of the proposed approach is examined in terms of a comparison with the traditional multilayer perceptron(ML),Knearest neighbors(K-NN),and the basic LSTM in terms of several evaluation criteria such as root mean square error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),and mean bias error(MBE).Experimental results show that the proposed approach could achieve RMSE of(0.003018),MAE of(0.001871),and MBE of(0.000205).These values are better than those of the other competing models.

This study designs and simulates weather parameters using MEMS technology with suitable characteristics for integration into a single chip for environment monitoring. The sensing and heating filament of the temperature sensor was designed using a thin film platinum resistor, examining its ability to experience stability, increase in resistivity, accuracy, and free-contamination. The temperature sensing and heating element are based on platinum RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) with meander shape and aluminum as the bonding pad connecting the sensor to the external circuit. A capacitive humidity sensor is implemented in consolidation with a piezoresistive pressure sensor with a square membrane. The capacitive humidity sensor with hole pattern at the upper plate and a polyimide serves as water absorbent sandwiched between the electrodes. The simulation analysis was conducted using finite element analysis in COMSOL Multiphysics version 6.0. It was observed that the temperature increases from -100oC to - 20oC, and 10oC to 50oC respectively as a result of deviation in relative humidity in the troposphere, and atmosphere. The average changes in capacitances were found at 0.0713/%RH, while the pressure was examined to vary from 1050hPa to 5hPa in a step of 200hPa with a sensitivity of 11.50mv/bar. © 2024 IEEE.

Current trends of digitalization and automation in the automotive industry have increased the complexity of computer clusters in different domains of vehicular ecosystems, which are required to support new features. This has led to redundancy in resource usage in specific use cases, resulting in increased production costs and manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) markups for the finalized products. The average retail price of a new vehicle in the United States increased by 13.4% between 2015 and 2020. Considering the global chip shortage of 2020 and current global inflation, the average price of a new vehicle in the United States reached 49,500 in 2023 [1]. With the electrification of current automotive platforms underway, as well as the move to centralized system architectures, new approaches to inter-domain communication are expected. This paper proposes a solution of a distributed AUTOSAR Adaptive system that can establish communication with the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) domain. The proof of concept implemented in a controlled environment proves viable for inter-domain communication, as it provides good scalability and adaptability to different scenarios. The use of a distributed approach facilitates the applicability of distributed system principles, allowing for the implementation of a stable system. © 2023 IEEE.

In modern industrial cyber-physical systems, a mass of process variables has been obtained by the high-sampling online sensors. Meanwhile, the key quality indexes are usually obtained infrequently from the laboratory. Hence, these quality variables are with low sampling rate. To avail of the complete process and quality variables with various sampling rates in the dynamic processes, a set of semi-supervised dynamic latent variable models are proposed for dynamic modeling and quality-relevant monitoring. The proposed models have built a unified structure to consider both the auto-correlations and cross-correlations between the process and quality variables with unbalanced sampling sizes. Hence, the feature extraction of the time series data is dynamically adjusted under the guidance of the quality variables. Then, the quality-relevant monitoring schemes are proposed, which is validated by a numerical case and an actual wastewater treatment process. © 2024 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Finite-difference time-domain is a numerical method used for modelling of computational electrodynamics. The method is resource intensive, especially regarding memory usage since multiple memory accesses are required per single computation. In other words, memory, or more precisely its speed, is a limiting factor for the overall performance. Existing solutions focus either on structures with great parallelism such as graphical processing units or custom designs. The former have issues with underutilized resources, while the latter require significant time and effort to achieve similar or slightly better performances. The approach taken during this research was to target the memory itself and find a way to improve the efficiency of memory usage across multiple platforms. The main contribution of the paper is using block floating-point in a novel way regarding the finite-difference time-domain method. The presented solution is a verification of earlier research, proving that the performance of this algorithm can indeed be improved using the suggested methods. © 2023 IEEE.

We consider distributionally robust optimal control of stochastic linear systems under signal temporal logic (STL) chance constraints when the disturbance distribution is unknown. By assuming that the underlying predicate functions are Lipschitz continuous and the noise realizations are drawn from a distribution having a concentration of measure property, we first formulate the underlying chance-constrained control problem as stochastic programming with constraints on expectations and propose a solution using a distributionally robust approach based on the Wasserstein metric. We show that by choosing a proper Wasserstein radius, the original chance-constrained optimization can be satisfied with a user-defined confidence level. A numerical example illustrates the efficacy of the method. © 2024 IEEE.

Advancements in Satellite Remote Sensing for Predicting Large-Scale Wildfire Risks: An Image Processing Algorithmic Framework

With the escalation of global warming and human activities, large-scale wildfires have become increasingly frequent, posing significant threats to both ecological environments and human societal safety. Satellite remote sensing technology plays a pivotal role in wildfire monitoring and risk assessment, providing extensive geographical coverage and continuous monitoring capabilities. Traditional methods for predicating wildfire risk, however, face limitations in processing large-scale remote sensing data, especially in cloud detection and temporal information analysis. In response to this challenge, a novel set of image processing algorithms has been developed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of wildfire risk prediction. Initially, a cloud detection and removal algorithm based on deep learning is introduced. This algorithm effectively identifies and eliminates cloud interference in remote sensing images, thereby significantly improving the quality and usability of image data. Subsequently, a temporal information capturing technique is proposed, capable of processing vast amounts of remote sensing data and extracting time series features. This technique provides robust data support for wildfire risk prediction. The application of these technologies not only improves the efficiency of the data processing workflow but also enhances the timeliness and accuracy of the prediction model, holding significant practical importance for guiding actual wildfire prevention and response measures. © 2024 by the authors of this article.

The treatise studies the temperature sensitivity of the optical transmission coefficient of an microoptoelectromechanical accelerometer (MOEMA) based on the optical tunneling effect in a temperature range from minus 40 °C to plus 100 °C. Two types of optical measuring transducers are studied: based on a directional coupler or a resonator. It is shown that the major contribution to the temperature error of the MOEMA’s transmission coefficient is made by the alteration of the optical transmission coefficient (OTC). For a measuring transducer based on a directional coupler, the temperature sensitivity of the OTC amounted to 0.00058 °C-1. That for a transducer based on a resonator amounted to 0.33 °C-1, which definitely speaks of its inability to operate without a thermostatic system. Following the results, the contribution of the refraction index alteration depending on temperature more than 5 times exceeds that of the MOEMA's mechanical parameters for optical measuring transducers based on the directional coupler and more than 3000 times for the resonator. © 2024 IEEE.
