This paper presents an interface system display which is conceived to improve pilot situation awareness with respect to a flight envelope protection system developed for a mid-sized transport aircraft. The new display is designed to complement existing cockpit displays, and to augment them with information that relates to both aircraft state and the control automation itself. In particular, the proposed display provides cues about the state of automation directly in terms of pilot control actions, in addition to flight parameters. The paper also describes a forthcoming evaluation test plan that is intended to validate the developed interface by assessing the relevance of the displayed information, as well as the adequacy of the display layout. © 2015, American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc. Device-free human presence (DFHP) detection is a novel technique, mainly applicable to wireless sensor networks in which a human does not need to carry a wireless transceiver to be detected. Irregularities in the radio signal propagation pattern, expressed in a form of received signal strength indicator's (RSSI) variations can indicate possible presence of a human within the existing radio network. In this paper we propose DFHP detection method based on frequency analysis of RSSI variations. The main advantage of the proposed method compared to human detection method based on information entropy is the possibility to determine human presence from furniture layout change. The main drawback is a disability to recognize the absence from the presence of a motionless person in an environment. However, the combination of these two approaches defines a robust and cost-effective DFHP detection method that can be used in various smart home systems without the need for specific hardware installation and exploitation procedures.

By using the on-site parameters from the middle speed mill（MSM） of the power plant, the mathematical model of middle speed mill is given by using the test-modeling method. Based on the obtained model, the dynamic matrix control（DMC） of middle speed mill is introduced in MATLAB/SIMULATION environmental. The impact of the parameters of the DMC controller on the final outputs of MSM have been widely studied, such as model mismatch, variations of the prediction and control horizons, and interruption time. The simulations are performed in comparison with the convention proportion integration differentiation（PID） controller. The results show that the introduced DMC provides a desired performance.

For link prediction, Common Neighbours (CN) ranking measures allow to discover quality links between nodes in a social network, assessing the likelihood of a new link based on the neighbours frontier of the already existing nodes. A zero rank value is often given to a large number of pairs of nodes, which have no common neighbours, that instead can be potentially good candidates for a quality assessment. With the aim of improving the quality of the ranking for link prediction, in this work we propose a general technique to evaluate the likelihood of a linkage, iteratively applying a given ranking measure to the Quasi-Common Neighbours (QCN) of the node pair, i.e. iteratively considering paths between nodes, which include more than one traversing step. Experiments held on a number of datasets already accepted in literature show that QCNAA, our QCN measure derived from the well know Adamic-Adar (AA), effectively improves the quality of link prediction methods, keeping the prediction capability of the original AA measure. This approach, being general and usable with any CN measure, has many different applications, e.g. trust management, terrorism prevention, disambiguation in co-authorship networks.

Hepatitis C is a major public health problem in the United States and worldwide. Outbreaks of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections associated with unsafe injection practices, drug diversion, and other exposures to blood are difficult to detect and investigate. Molecular analysis has been frequently used in the study of HCV outbreaks and transmission chains; helping identify a cluster of sequences as linked by transmission if their genetic distances are below a previously defined threshold. However, HCV exists as a population of numerous variants in each infected individual and it has been observed that minority variants in the source are often the ones responsible for transmission, a situation that precludes the use of a single sequence per individual because many such transmissions would be missed. The use of Next-Generation Sequencing immensely increases the sensitivity of transmission detection but brings a considerable computational challenge because all sequences need to be compared among all pairs of samples. For instance, our relatively small dataset of 401 samples, a total of 80200 pairwise sample comparisons must be performed, which account for 4.56 x 1010 pairwise sequence comparisons. We present a fast and efficient three-step filtering strategy that removes 85.1% of all the pairwise sample comparisons and 91.0% of all pairwise sequence comparisons, accurately establishing which pairs of HCV samples are below the relatedness threshold This electronic document is a “live” template and already defines the components of your paper [title, text, heads, etc.] in its style sheet.

In this work, a non-linear controller with an inherent current-limiting property is proposed to achieve dc output voltage regulation and unity power factor operation for single-phase ac/dc converters. The proposed current-limiting non-linear controller (CLNC) acts independently from the system parameters and is proven to guarantee closed-loop system stability using non-linear control theory. Without requiring the instantaneous measurement of the grid voltage, a PLL or external limiters, the CLNC additionally guarantees that the input current will always remain below a given maximum value, even during transients. This represents a significant superiority with respect to the existing techniques, since a given limit for the input current is achieved without changing the controller dynamics or using external protection circuits. Extended simulation results using both Matlab/Simulink and a real-time digital simulator are presented to verify the proposed controller performance under several changes of the reference voltage.

In this article, we present the user-centered development of the service robot IURO. IURO's goal is to find the way to a designated place in town without any previous map knowledge, just by retrieving information from asking pedestrians for directions. We present the 3-years development process,which involved a series of studies on its appearance, communication model, feedback modalities, and social navigation mechanisms. Our main contribution lies within the final field *** the autonomous IURO platform, we performed a series of six way-finding runs (over 24 hours of run-time in total) in the city center of Munich, Germany. The robot interacted with approximately 100 pedestrians of which 36 interactions included a full route dialogue. A variety of empirical methods was used to explore reactions of primary users (pedestrians who actually interacted with the robot) and secondary users (bystanders who observed others interacting). The gathered data provides insights into usability, user experience, and acceptance of IURO and allowed us deriving recommendations for the development of other socially interactive robots. © 2015 A. The polynomial fuzzy models are capable of modeling complex dynamic systems. They have attracted increasing attention in the recent years as the models of choice for the development of more advanced fuzzy controllers. Little effort has been made to study the models themselves though. Like many other types of models, a polynomial fuzzy model aims at describing the physical system's dynamics based on the measured input-output data of the system. Importantly, a polynomial fuzzy model that appears to mimic the measured data reasonably well does not guarantee its validity. One way to assess model's quality is to check whether its stability is consistent with that of the physical system, which is the theme of our investigation. In this paper, we first propose a type of discrete-time polynomial fuzzy dynamic models, which comprises the general Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model as a special case. Then, based on the Lyapunov's linearization method, a necessary and sufficient condition is established for analytically determining the local asymptotic stability of the proposed models. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness and utility of our method.

Some experiments on radiation of hydrocarbons and the alloys including Bismuth and Lead by power nanosecond electromagnetic pulses are described. The list of the used equipment and technique of experiments are given. The result of these experiences is change of a chemical composition of the irradiated samples in comparison with the initial ones. Conversion of part of Bismuth to Lead is observed. The hypothesis of such changes is made.

The paper studies the effect of the manipulation of the polytopic TP model representation of a given quasi Linear Parameter Varying (qLPV) state-space model on the control performance results. The investigated model in the case study consists of the extended, Stribeck friction included three degrees of-freedom version of the aero elastic wing section of the Nonlinear Aero elastic Test Apparatus (NATA) model. The investigation is carried out through the Tensor Product (TP) model transformation based control Design Framework, which bridges the manipulation of the polytopic representation and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) based control design methods. Different TP model representations of the given qLPV model are derived: a TP model representation with a sum-normalized non-negative (SNNN) convex hull, a TP model representation with a close to-normal (CNO) convex hull and interpolated TP model representations. Upon these representations Linear Matrix Inequality based design methods are applied to attain the controller and observer system components. The resulting control systems are tested through numerical simulation and their performance are compared and evaluated. The paper presents results, where the interpolated representations lead to better control performance results, which indicates, that the manipulation of the polytopic TP model representation may lead to further potential optimization possibilities. Also, this shows, that in order to find the optimal solution the manipulation is a necessary and important step.
