This paper introduces a decentralized coordinated fuzzy stabilization control of power system. First, the Takagi and Sugeno（T-S） fuzzy model is employed to approximate system-wide nonlinear model of power system. Next, based on the fuzzy model, a fuzzy controller with decentralized constrain is developed to achieve the suboptimal control. A robust stabilization technique is also proposed to override the oscillations. Finally, the suboptimal control is parameterized in terms of three eigenvalue problems（EVP’s）, which can be solved conveniently by using linear matrix inequality（LMI） optimization techniques. A simulation example is used to illustrate the contributions of the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the proposed method gives a desired performance.

In view of the nonlinearity and coupling in the coordinated control system(CCS) of thermal power plants, the paper introduces a Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model based generalized predictive control(GPC) of CCS. First, a T-S fuzzy model with three chosen typical operating point is employed to approximate the nonlinearity of the CCS of the thermal power plant. Then, based on the obtained T-S fuzzy model, a GPC controller is developed to achieve a desired performance. Finally, a living example of a 330MW thermal power unit is used to demonstrate GPC controller.

Cluster analysis is important in scientific and industrial fields. In this study, we proposed a novel chaotic biogeography-based optimization (CBBO) method, and applied it in centroid-based clustering methods. The results over three types of simulation data showed that this proposed CBBO method gave better performance than chaotic particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, firefly algorithm, and quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization. In all, our CBBO method is effective in centroid-based clustering.

This paper presents experimental results showing uneven distributions of selected iris image quality metrics in the consecutive attempts in a biometric system that allows for multiple attempts to complete a transaction. We consider three iris image quality metrics that can be influenced by user behavior: usable iris area, motion blur and margin adequacy. The quality metrics are used to judge the overall quality of the iris image and accept or reject it on each attempt. The experiment simulates a typical physical access scenario with a maximum of three attempts in one transaction. One conclusion is that subjects rejected on the first attempt do, on average, improve the quality of their iris image on their second attempt. If their second image is rejected, the average quality improvement on the third attempt is lower. A second conclusion is that the probability of a subject being rejected on the second try is higher in average than the probability calculated for all subjects delivering their first samples. The latter finding contrasts with a common belief that each try in a single transaction can be assumed to be a draw from the same authentic distribution (and hence the rejection probabilities are equal in each try). A third interesting and surprising observation is that improvement of sample quality is higher for women than for men. To our knowledge, this paper presents the first research explaining the nature of multi-attempt iris recognition system and delivers conclusions that suggest that the default understanding of this process is too simplistic.

Passivity is one of the most physically appealing concepts in systems and control theory. The stored internal energy in a passive system is bounded from above by the externally supplied energy. It is well known that this energy dissipation property has important implications for closed-loop stability. Additionally, the passivity property is preserved with respect to feedback and parallel interconnections of passive systems. This composability property of passive systems is crucial in designing and analyzing highly networked systems. Due to these desirable features, the passivity paradigm has been widely utilized to achieve outstanding success in robot control, which is the main focus of the session. The tutorial session starts with a historical perspective on passivity-based robot control and its broad applicability to several important problems in robotics. Despite the long history, passivity-based robot control is being actively utilized in addressing emerging problems in robot control. Hence, the remainder of the session presents application of passivity-based robot control to address important research issues in bilateral teleoperation, visual feedback estimation and robot control, cooperative robot control, and mixed human-robot teams.

A robust H-infinity controller based on genetic algorithm optimization is designed for space vector control model of permanent magnet synchronous motor to improve the speed of tracking performance. A space vector control model of the system has been formed, and a quadrature-axis current loop transfer function based on a dynamic mathematical model of motor combined with decoupling technology is established. In order to obtain a good dynamic performance, the selection of the weighting function uses genetic algorithm to optimize in the process of designing the robust H-infinity. Simulation and analysis results show that the robust controller that based on genetic algorithm effectively improves the tracking performance and robustness of the system. © 2014 by Binary Information Press

This paper proposes the impedance matching circuit which keeps input impedance constant by using boost converter and resonant rectifier. In the simulation, the results confirmed characteristic of this circuit and achieved high power factor such as almost 1.0. The proposed circuit is able to reduce total harmonics distortion (THD) by 13%. Experimental result shows that input power factor is almost 1.0. The THD reduces 71.3% compared with simulation result of diode rectifier.

Models of quantum systems on curved space-times lack sufficient experimental verification. Some speculative theories suggest that quantum properties, such as entanglement, may exhibit entirely different behavior to purely classical systems. By measuring this effect or lack thereof, we can test the hypotheses behind several such models. For instance, as predicted by Ralph and coworkers [T C Ralph, G J Milburn, and T Downes, Phys. Rev. A, 79(2):22121, 2009;T C Ralph and J Pienaar, New Journal of Physics, 16(8):85008, 2014], a bipartite entangled system could decohere if each particle traversed through a different gravitational field gradient. We propose to study this effect in a ground to space uplink scenario. We extend the above theoretical predictions of Ralph and coworkers and discuss the scientific consequences of detecting/failing to detect the predicted gravitational decoherence. We present a detailed mission design of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Space QUEST (Space - Quantum Entanglement Space Test) mission, and study the feasibility of the mission scheme. control of robot locomotion profits from the use of pre-planned trajectories. This paper presents a way to generalize globally optimal and dynamically consistent trajectories for cyclic bipedal walking. A small task-space consisting of stride-length and step time is mapped to spline parameters which fully define the optimal joint space motion. The paper presents the impact of different machine learning algorithms for velocity and torque optimal trajectories with respect to optimality and feasibility. To demonstrate the usefulness of the trajectories, a control approach is presented that allows general walking including transitions between points in the task-space.

Analytic estimation and numerical modeling of actively cooled thermal protection systems with nickel alloys

Actively cooled thermal protection system has great influence on the engine of a hypersonic vehicle, and it is significant to obtain the thermal and stress distribution in the system. So an analytic estimation and numerical modeling are performed in this paper to investigate the behavior of an actively cooled thermal protection system. The analytic estimation is based on the electric analogy method and finite element analysis（FEA） is applied to the numerical simulation. Temperature and stress distributions are obtained for the actively cooled channel walls with three kinds of nickel alloys with or with no thermal barrier coating（TBC）. The temperature of the channel wall with coating has no obvious difference from the one with no coating, but the stress with coating on the channel wall is much smaller than that with no coating. Inconel X-750 has the best characteristics among the three Ni-based materials due to its higher thermal conductivity, lower elasticity module and greater allowable stress. Analytic estimation and numerical modeling results are compared with each other and a reasonable agreement is obtained.
