TV White Space (TVWS) is becoming a useful communication medium through cognitive radio techniques. IEEE 802.22 Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN) has been adopted as a standard in this regard. WRAN has a coverage radius of up to 30km. Due to large cells and opportunistic spectrum utilization, the self-coexistence situation, where multiple WRAN Base Stations (BSs) share the same spectrum band in the same region, is expected to be common. This paper explores the use of relay-based WRANs to improve the transmission performance under the self-coexistence situation; this performance improvement has not been reported to the best of our knowledge. In particular, we investigate the delay performance of multi-hop WRANs under the self-coexistence situation using simulations, and compare the performance to the case of single-hop WRANs without relay. We also evaluate the delay performance for hybrid scenarios where some of the Consumer Premise Equipments (CPEs) use relay while others communicate directly to BSs. Numerical results indicate that using relay transmissions for CPEs in the overlap area of self-coexisting WRANs can help decrease the average packet delay when the transmission resources become scarce.

A repetitive control theory is proposed to solve the synchronization problem between the wafer stage and reticle stage. A macro-micro control method is used based on a macro-micro control structure in which a linear motor is combined with a voice coil motor. A synchronization controller of the reticle stage is added base on the conventional PID control system. The repetitive controller is designed based on the repeated movement of the reticle stage and the wafer stage during the scan and exposure period, and the effects of synchronization control system can be improved because of the repetitive control can effectively track and inhibit the periodicity excitation signal. The repetitive control system effectively reduces the synchronization error during the scan and exposure periodïŒin the meanwhile keep the tracking accuracy and dynamic characters. Simulation results show that the synchronization error can be reduced effectively. © 2013 SPIE.

Observer design for a class of distributed parameter systems based on the so called hyperbolic observer canonical form (o.c.f.) is considered. The method relies on the tight relation between hyperbolic d.p.s. and functional differential equations (f.d.e.). Based on an input-output description given in form of a f.d.e. and a parametrization of the original "physical" coordinates by the system's input and output trajectories, the transformation to the o.c.f. is calculated using another set of coordinates. These coordinates are associated with the hyperbolic observability form and correspond to the restriction of the output trajectory to a certain interval. The proposed method is illustrated on the basis of the one-dimensional wave equation with dynamic boundary conditions. © VDE VERLAG GMBH 2013.

This study presents a real-time, and auto-alarm intelligent system of healthcare for ICU patients. The current version of the expert system can detect EEG and ECG to identify different types of abnormal cardiac rhythms in real-time and identify patients' acute stress. The proposed system also activates an emergency medical alarm system when problems occur.

To investigate the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) to high resolution, the GoT2D and T2D-GENES consortia catalogued variation from whole-genome sequencing of 2,657 European individuals and exome sequencing of 12,940 individuals of multiple ancestries. Over 27M SNPs, indels, and structural variants were identified, including 99% of low-frequency (minor allele frequency [MAF] 0.1-5%) non-coding variants in the whole-genome sequenced individuals and 99.7% of low-frequency coding variants in the whole-exome sequenced individuals. Each variant was tested for association with T2D in the sequenced individuals, and, to increase power, most were tested in larger numbers of individuals (>80% of low-frequency coding variants in ~82 K Europeans via the exome chip, and ~90% of low-frequency non-coding variants in ~44 K Europeans via genotype imputation). The variants, genotypes, and association statistics from these analyses provide the largest reference to date of human genetic information relevant to T2D, for use in activities such as T2D-focused genotype imputation, functional characterization of variants or genes, and other novel analyses to detect associations between sequence variation and T2D.

As a family of dynamic description logics, DDL(X) is constructed by embracing actions into the description logic X, where X represents well-studied description logics ranging from the ALC to the SHOIQ. To efficiently support automated interoperability between ontology-based information systems in distributed environments, we have to design an expressive mapping language to semantically understand resources from remote and heterogeneous systems. Distributed Dynamic Description Logics D3L(X) is a natural generalization of the DDL(X) framework, which is designed to model the distributed dynamically-changing knowledge repositories interconnected by semantic mappings and to accomplish reasoning in distributed, heterogeneous environments. In this paper, we propose an extension of Distributed Dynamic Description Logics D3L(X) and investigate the reasoning mechanisms in D3L(X). © 2013 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

In the highway environment, many applications require localization. It is common to use the Global Positioning System (GPS) to find the current position, but GPS is easily influenced by the external environment and has many internal errors. Dead Reckoning (DR) is a common method for correcting the GPS position. However, the related applications do not have a notice system that can show the number of and distances to neighboring vehicles. In this paper, we design a map application on the Android operating system for vehicular networks. In this map application, the road map would be shown on a monitor, and the neighboring vehicles could also be drawn on this map. Users can easily understand the road conditions. Moreover, the application can exchange traffic information with other vehicles, and the map can also show the vehicles which are out of range. Furthermore, the application can show the time to collision between two vehicles. The experimental results will show the adjustment of position corrected by DR on Google Map, and the radar map on the Android operating system. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

The paper considers nonlinear discrete-time repetitive processes using the state-space model setting. A form of passivity, termed G-passivity, is introduced and used, together with a vector storage function, to develop a new design for output feedback based control to guarantee exponential stability of the controlled system. An extension to repetitive processes with possible failures, modeled by finite state Markov chain, is also given. Finally, these new results are applied to iterative learning control design in the presence of sensor failures.

The distributed networked control systems are considered in this paper. Several sub-systems which are connected with each other through a communication network make up the whole system. Each sub-system has its own quantizer so that any information which needs be transmitted to other sub-systems will be quantized due to limited bandwidth. Meanwhile, the actuator faults, including outage, loss of effectiveness and stuck are also considered in our research. A mode-based state feedback controller is given in this paper to stable such NCSs and to meet the robust H-inf performance. A simulation example is proposed to illustrate the effectiveness of our method finally.
