Optimal Configuration of Self-Consistent Microgrid System with Hydrogen Energy Storage for Highway Service Area

Targeting on the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutralization, the transportation sector is facing the pressure of carbon reduction, emission reduction and energy transformation simultaneously. Building a green, flexible, self-consistent and sustainable road transportation energy integration system has become an inevitable trend for the future development in an area without power grid. This paper proposes a self-consistent micro grid system model for wind and solar power with hydrogen energy storage for a highway service area without power grid connection. On this basis, a micro grid optimal configuration model is proposed with the goal of minimizing the comprehensive cost of the micro grid in the service area, under the constraints of the battery, hydrogen energy storage system (ESS), and the power balance of the micro grid system. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to solve the problem for a case study to verify the effectiveness of the model and the method proposed. Experimental results show that the model proposed in this paper not only improves the renewable energy utilization rate of the system, but also improves the reliability of power supply, verifying the effectiveness of the micro grid configuration scheme for the highway service area containing hydrogen ESS.

In this paper, an active fault tolerant control method for spacecraft against actuator faults, uncertainties and disturbances is investigated. First, an adaptive iterative learning observer with improved adaptive law is proposed, which greatly improves the accuracy and speed of fault estimation. Then, a novel adaptive finite time prescribed performance fault tolerant controller is proposed, which has flexible performance constraints according to faults and control references, with better robustness and lower conservatism, breaking the limitation of fixed performance constraint. Next, an online optimal control allocation strategy is designed to achieve high-performance actuator allocation under saturation and fault constraints. Finally, through numerical simulation, the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed scheme are illustrated by comparing with existing methods.

With the increasing deployment of electric vehicles, transportation networks have been more closely coupled with power networks via charging stations. The functionality of the coupled system can be significantly damaged by extreme events, like man-made attacks and natural disasters. In this paper, we propose a metric to quantify network resilience and a method to dispatch electric vehicles to suitable charging stations in power grid-coupled transportation networks after being disrupted by extreme events. The emergent dispatching problem is expressed by a linear programming model which is computationally tractable. The optimization variables are binary and represent the charging stations selected for electric vehicles. The optimization objective is to minimize the sum of queue time and travel time of electric vehicles. Simulation results conducted on a synthesized power-transportation coupling system that is composed by a modified real-world transportation network and the IEEE 39 Bus test case demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method in enhancing network resilience. Our work contributes to the advancement of more resilient modern transportation networks under extreme events.

Autonomous driving detection technology in real-world road scenarios faces numerous challenges, including variable weather conditions and complex road environments. Therefore, developing an object detection model with robust domain adaptation is crucial. In this paper, we investigate the use of image style transfer techniques to leverage target domain images for enhancing model performance. Experimental results show that our proposed approach significantly improves detection efficacy. Notably, our method outperforms the Oracle results in tasks such as transitioning from Cityscapes to Foggy Cityscapes, highlighting its effectiveness in addressing domain adaptation challenges.

In this paper, a fixed-time disturbances observer (FTDOB)-based fixed-time sliding mode control (FTSMC) scheme is proposed for the three-phase three-level neutral-point-clamped (3L-NPC) converters. Therein, a FTSMC with adaptive exponential coefficient is designed to regulate the dc-link voltage. Compared with existing methods, the upper bound of the settling time for the proposed method is independent of the initial error, which ensures the dynamic performance of the 3L-NPC converters. Furthermore, a FTDOB is employed to estimate external disturbances and act as feedforward compensation of the 3L-NPC converters to enhance its disturbances rejection ability. Finally, a series of simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method by compared with several representative methods used in 3L-NPC converters.

Emerging applications like machine learning in embedded devices (e.g., satellites and vehicles) require huge storage space, which recently stimulates the widespread deployment of large-scale flash memory in IoT devices. However, existing embedded file systems fall short in managing large-capacity storage efficiently for two reasons. First, prior arts store data structures of file systems either in flash or in main memory, which severely magnifies the scarcity of computing and memory resources. Moreover, the fine-grained metadata management in the existing embedded file systems induces significant energy consumption for large-capacity storage. In this paper, we propose a novel embedded file system, ELOFS, to tackle the above issues and manage large-capacity NAND flash on resource-scarce devices. ELOFS is made efficient through three novel techniques. First, we redefine the space management granularity and streamline the metadata to speed up the mounting performance. In addition, we design hybrid file structures to adapt dissimilar access patterns of embedded devices. Furthermore, ELOFS provides opportunities for in-depth cooperation with application-specific systems. We implement ELOFS with Memory Technology Device (MTD) interfaces, and the experimental results show that ELOFS outperforms YAFFS and UBIFS in terms of write, read, and deletions with orders of magnitude reductions on memory footprint and mounting time. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

In this work, a novel reinforcement learning-based adaptive fault-tolerant control (FTC) scheme with actuator redundancy is presented for a nonlinear strict-feedback system with nonlinear dynamics and uncertainties. A learning-based switching function technique is established to steer different groups of actuators automatically and successively to mitigate the impact of faulty actuators by observing a switching performance index. The optimal tracking control problem (OTCP) of strict-feedback nonlinear systems is transformed into an equivalent optimal regulation problem of each affine subsystem via adaptive feedforward controllers. Subsequently, the designed objective functions associated with Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) estimate errors caused by neural network (NN) approximations can be minimized by the reinforcement learning algorithm without value or policy iterations. It is proved that the tracking objective can be achieved and all signals in the closed-loop system can be guaranteed to be bounded, as long as the minimum time interval between two successive failures is bounded. Theoretical results are verified by simulations.

In this paper, the problem of fault estimation and localization in the connecting dynamic elements of distributed heating and cooling systems are treated. The fault represents the physical parameter change related to the heat transfer between the system and the external environment. First, based on the bi-linear dynamic state space model of the system in the presence of a fault, structural observability analysis using Signed Directed Graph (SDG) has been performed to investigate the sensor placement problem. Then, a nonlinear observer with a parameter adaptation algorithm was proposed for fault estimation. The simulation results show that it can successfully detect and estimate the fault. Fault localization along the length of the element has also been attempted, but it has been found that the localization cannot be performed using practically changeable input variables. Frequency domain analysis is presented to discuss this phenomenon. © 2022 ACM.

Clear outdoor images are essential for autonomous driving and accurate target detection, especially in haze. The majority of algorithms are unable to adequately address the issue of dehazing, resulting in a range of distortions, particularly in the sky area. This paper proposes an advanced dehazing algorithm for enhancing sky-area visuals (ESV). We segment the image into sky and non-sky areas, with atmospheric light levels being determined within the sky area. To enhance the recovery of the sky region, we suggest fine-tuning the sky's transmission to a predetermined constant value. Ultimately, the dehazed image is retrieved utilizing the atmospheric scattering model. Extensive experiments have shown that our proposed algorithm outperforms alternative methods, increasing PSNR by up to 1.3733%, 1.6360%, 2.4169%, 0.9512%, SSIM by up to 4.8995%, 0.6281%, 6.5335%, 8.7165%, enhancing the visuals of sky-area, compared to DCP, CAP, HC-CEP and AOD-Net.
