CloudLCA: finding the lowest common ancestor in metagenome analysis using cloud computing

Estimating taxonomic content constitutes a key problem in metagenomic sequencing data ***,extracting such content from high-throughput data of next-generation sequencing is very time-consuming with the currently available ***,we present CloudLCA,a parallel LCA algorithm that significantly improves the efficiency of determining taxonomic composition in metagenomic data *** show that CloudLCA(1)has a running time nearly linear with the increase of dataset magnitude,(2)displays linear speedup as the number of processors grows,especially for large datasets,and(3)reaches a speed of nearly 215 million reads each minute on a cluster with ten thin *** comparison with MEGAN,a well-known metagenome analyzer,the speed of CloudLCA is up to 5 more times faster,and its peak memory usage is approximately 18.5%that of MEGAN,running on a fat *** can be run on one multiprocessor node or a *** is expected to be part of MEGAN to accelerate analyzing reads,with the same output generated as MEGAN,which can be import into MEGAN in a direct way to finish the following ***,CloudLCA is a universal solution for finding the lowest common ancestor,and it can be applied in other fields requiring an LCA algorithm.

AI and robot ethics have recently gained a lot of attention because adaptive machines are increasingly involved in ethically sensitive scenarios and cause incidents of public outcry. Much of the debate has been focused on achieving highest moral standards in handling ethical dilemmas on which not even humans can agree, which indicates that the wrong questions are being asked. We suggest to address this ethics debate strictly through the lens of what behavior seems socially acceptable, rather than idealistically ethical. Learning such behavior puts the debate into the very heart of developmental robotics. This paper poses a roadmap of computational and experimental questions to address the development of socially acceptable machines. We emphasize the need for social reward mechanisms and learning architectures that integrate these while reaching beyond limitations of plain reinforcement-learning agents. We suggest to use the metaphor of 'needs' to bridge rewards and higher level abstractions such as goals for both communication and action generation in a social context. We then suggest a series of experimental questions and possible platforms and paradigms to guide future research in the area. © 2018 IEEE.

Human activity prediction is a quite challenging problem, for activity prediction systems have to make decisions based on partially observed videos. However, activity prediction methodologies have many practical applications in real-world scenarios, such as human-robot interaction, security surveil- lance, etc. In this paper, we formulate the activity predic- tion problem into a discriminative weighted voting frame- work by unifying two di-erent discriminative weights: 1) detector weights (DW): Mid-level features detected by dis- tinct detectors are supposed to have di-erent weights. 2) temporal weights (TW): Human activities are composed of sequential frames, so features in di-erent phases should have di-erent voting weights. We evaluate our voting model on two datasets. The experimental results clearly show that our method with discriminative weights enables better pre- diction of human activities. © 2015 ACM.

Outstanding autonomous evasion decision-making capability has an important significance for ensuring flight safety and enhancing the autonomy of the aircraft. In this paper, a prediction information-based TD3 (PITD3) evasion decision-making algorithm for aircraft is proposed, which can autonomously evade the interceptors' attack in an antagonistic environment. Firstly, an antagonistic environment is described according to environmental constraints and the dynamics of the aircraft and interceptor. Secondly, the autonomous decision-making process of the aircraft facing the threat target is modelled as a Markov decision process to describe the state information of the aircraft and interceptor. Finally, an autonomous evasion decision-making method based on the twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) is designed to find the optimal strategy, and the effectiveness of the proposed autonomous evasion decision-making method is demonstrated by simulation results and comparative experiments. © 2024 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Gait phase recognition systems are widely used in medicine to control devices aimed at restoration of patients’ motor functions and have an increasing interest in scientific society. Use of electromyography as a source of information for such systems gives considerable advantages in comparison with other data sources at the cost of complex signal processing needed. In this paper, the author outlines these advantages and suggests a method that uses discrete wavelet transform to retrieve muscle activity shape and a novel double-threshold detector to find the regions of activity. Then a robust statistical treatment is performed following a dimensionality reduction. As a result, a set of classification objects is retrieved that are suitable for further use in various clustering and classification techniques. The introduced method was tested in the Movement Physiology Laboratory of I. P. Pavlov institute of Physiology, Russian Academy of Sciences and proved its applicability on real electromyography data. © 2018 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

This paper studies the structure features of the collected power consumers' power consumption data,in which the 96 measured data points indicating a single user's power consumption curve of a *** 96 measured data points are taken as 96 variables for *** dimensionality of original data is reduced by principal component analysis(PCA),and then the K-means algorithm is employed to cluster the original time-series load data of power *** detail,Haar wavelet transform is adopted to provide a five-level multi-resolution decomposition of the original load data,from which 93 Haar coefficients and 3 scale coefficients are *** cluster result is taken as category labels,and the standardized 93 coefficients and 3 scale coefficients as dependent variables,a classification model based on C5.0 algorithm is established to confirm the Haar scale coefficients as characteristic quantity of power consumption ***,the data acquisition is simplified and storage space *** method could also be adopted for feature extraction of tremendous detail data and indicator data in power system,with potential application value and economic benefit.

The application of transformer architecture in analyzing whole slide images (WSIs) has become increasingly popular due to its remarkable ability to learn complex associations. Nevertheless, a significant drawback emerges in the multiclass analysis of WSIs. The majority of the transformer-based methods available currently rely primarily on a single, class-agnostic token. This approach might not ideally capture the subtleties of class-discriminative information. To address this challenge, we present an innovative approach tailored for multi-class WSI analysis that harnesses the power of class-specific tokens. Central to our method is a novel attention mechanism designed to foster a synergistic learning relationship between patch and class tokens, enhancing the granularity of information captured and ensuring a more comprehensive representation of the WSI. Complementing this, we introduce a dynamic class-centric training strategy designed to optimize token representation learning, ensuring each token is informatively aligned with its corresponding class. Through extensive experimentation on three challenging multi-class WSI analysis datasets, our method consistently demonstrates superior performance, underscoring its potential as a robust solution for multi-class WSI analysis tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

An Efficient Network-on-Chip Router for Dataflow Architecture

Dataflow architecture has shown its advantages in many high-performance computing cases. In dataflow computing, a large amount of data are frequently transferred among processing elements through the network-on-chip （NoC）. Thus the router design has a significant impact on the performance of dataflow architecture. Common routers are designed for control-flow multi-core architecture and we find they are not suitable for dataflow architecture. In this work, we analyze and extract the features of data transfers in NoCs of dataflow architecture： multiple destinations, high injection rate, and performance sensitive to delay. Based on the three features, we propose a novel and efficient NoC router for dataflow architecture. The proposed router supports multi-destination; thus it can transfer data with multiple destinations in a single transfer. Moreover, the router adopts output buffer to maximize throughput and adopts non-flit packets to minimize transfer delay. Experimental results show that the proposed router can improve the performance of dataflow architecture by 3.6x over a state-of-the-art router.

Electrochemical dual layer capacitors, also known by their market names Supercapacitors and Ultracapacitors are perspective technology for many uses, for instance in power saving circuits for electric propulsion systems, short-term energy storage systems, systems for extending battery lifetime and other similar uses. Although they can be used connected directly to a power converter DC link, in most cases they are connected to the DC link through a separate power converter. In use, such an EDLC and power converter assembly, due to EDLC specifics, must reliably operate in numerous operating points, unlike a typical power electronic converter. Such a power converter operation entails many control issues. Some of them are considered in this paper. © 2012 MIPRO.

Remote Attestation for Intelligent Electronic Devices in Smart Grid Based on Trusted Level Measurement

To reduce the implementation complexity and excessive overhead caused by remote attestation,we propose a new remote attestation scheme based on trusted level measurement considering the limited system resources of the Intelligent electronic devices(IEDs) in smart grid. In this scheme, a lightweight trusted level measurement mechanism is designed, and a new dynamic weighted multi-classifier integration method based on Binary tree Support vector machine(BT-SVM) is proposed. The trusted level of configuration information and running state of an IED are measured through trusted third party. The measurement parameters and attestation period are dynamically adjusted according to different trusted levels of an IED, so that reducing computational overhead and communication delays in remote attestation process. Analysis and experiments show that the proposed scheme can enhance the security of IEDs in smart grid by occupying a small amount of computation and communication resources.
